Help. Epic hotel choice failure

BoffinMum · 31/07/2017 20:43

So here we are in a family hotel in Italy on holiday, near Lake Garda. We are supposed to be here for two weeks and it's costing 5800 euros full board for four of us including DS2 (16) and DS3 (8). We have had a terrible year and this was supposed to be a special holiday to recover.

We all hate it. I hate it so much I could cry.

The hotel itself is really small and the things we thought we would use - spa and so on - are only open 4-7.30 daily (it said nothing about this on the website). We've just had a meal and it's reminiscent of school dinners - I could have cooked it better myself. You can only have dinner from 7-8pm. Nothing like the lovingly garnished offerings on the website, basically stodge. Even the teenager gave up ploughing through it. Our wine eventually came after we had fiinished the meal. There are no soft drinks for kids apart from Fanta, Sprite or Coke. The kids bedroom smells of smoke (as does ours) and has restricted ceiling height so DS2 is going to be banging his head the whole time. The decor reminds me of my grandmother's house about 30 years ago. There is nowhere to get away from the din because it's so small and i currently have a kids' disco under my window (it's 930 pm here) and DS3 is tired from travelling all day but it's too noisy to go to sleep.

I have been down the the manager to explain the problems but he just shrugged and said 'other people like it'. He said we have to stay at least a week otherwise they will have an empty room.

So we are trapped in this glorified youth hostel listening to a kids disco booming away under the window eating stodge and will have to spend 2900 euros for the privilege. And there may be nowhere else to go,

Help, what do I do?

They are calling that heatwave LUCIFER - Italy is best visited in may/june or sept

AlpacaLypse · 04/08/2017 14:44

Hope you and Patsy don't mind @BoffinMum. I nominated it as it really is too brilliant a thread to vanish forever after 90 days.

StormTreader · 04/08/2017 14:48

This has got to be the first MN thread ever where I'm actually hoping the DM DO pick it up! Grin

TheDailyWail · 04/08/2017 15:24

You forgot to ask the DM for a YACHT Boffin!

QuackDuckQuack · 04/08/2017 17:03

I thought the DM just picked stories up. What is the world coming to when the DM asks before taking?

UrsulaPandress

"Have you read the full post "user"?

NO, because probably unlike you, although I am a single mother, I work full time, and I don't have hour after hour sitting on my back-side reading on here. I do, however, find the problems very interesting and thought provoking, and it IS Adriana, and there ARE some awful photos, which got accidentally slipped into their Website.
Do you have anything of any interest to add to the conversation?

badbadhusky · 04/08/2017 19:05

Oh no, bunfight. Sad

badbadhusky · 04/08/2017 19:06

Speaking of bunfights, what's the bread like at the hotel? DS1's favourite thing about Italy is "focker bread" (focaccia).

user1483875094 · 04/08/2017 19:50

badbadhusky

Love you for that - thank you. xxxxxxxxxxx

TheDailyWail · 04/08/2017 20:16

User - please do read the thread. If you are short of time then highlight the OP's posts. It is worth it.

Smile
UrsulaPandress · 04/08/2017 20:44

^^

What she said

Sheesh. You could have saved yourself all that researching to find the hotel (as you are soooo busy)

BoffinMum · 04/08/2017 20:47

Patsy wasn't joking about the popup weekend nightclub down the road.

This is what my youngest has to listen to while he tries to go to sleep

Bread at the hotel is cheap white or cheap rye that is stale within about ten seconds of cutting it.

The place to go is the Bastidi farm up the road where they make their own with all sorts of things in, and also rustic grissini. And they make their own cheese. Last night we had antipasti with home made pickles, cheese, various delicious cold meats, followed by a lasagne so divine I nearly fell on my knees to thank the lord, salad they may have grown themselves, and finally dessert choices of strudel, panna cotta, cheesecake or chocolate salami. One choice of wine, a fantastic merlot. Fantastic dinner.

Tonight I found a tiny Risotteria for us in the next village, which looked like something out an episode of Montelbano,, that served 150 kinds of risotto, I had one with cream, speck and nuts. Then an ice cream in a cone from a gelateria on the way home.

Damn you Boffin! You are making me hungry again.

AlpacaLypse · 04/08/2017 22:51

Damn you @BoffinMum you are making me question my choice about going to Seville in the autumn with possibly Italian Lakes in second. And damn you Patsy too. Just to be fair.

MrsMontgomerySmythe · 05/08/2017 05:05

Food sounds wonderful. Are you off to the new place today?

Any chance of a photo the enthusiastic clowns before you jump ship? Smile

donajimena · 05/08/2017 05:51

What on earth is that music? It hardly screams holiday! I've just read the entire thread. Its one of the funniest I've ever read on mumsnet. Good luck with the move.

JulesJules · 05/08/2017 06:54

Glad things are looking up Boffin

Horrified by WatermelonSugar sprout thing Shock - I have just booked for Malta next year... Which hotel was it?

SolomanDaisy · 05/08/2017 08:42

Duinrell is great, for those who mentioned it earlier.

badbadhusky · 05/08/2017 08:45

Boffin Is today the day? Are you tunnelling or going over the wall? Please let us know what your new digs are like. And also how much of a cats bum mouth the manager did as you departed.

Patsypedalo · 05/08/2017 08:47

Hi Boffin, Friday night is YMCA night?! (Although who knew there was an actual dance and not just making the letters with your arms?)

Changed my username in an attempt to shake off the daily mail!

Hope the new hotel is more peaceful, we all want details!

AuldAlliance · 05/08/2017 12:32

Christ, Boff, I have only just seen this.
Glad it worked out OK in the end and that you met Patsy.
Excellent thread, and I'm looking forward to the DM changing its attitude to Brexit thanks to you two.

BoffinMum · 05/08/2017 13:38
