Just been outside the feed the cat who has his food in the outhouse. There, hanging from the old pipework are 3 absolutely huge cocoons. They are hideous! Black and more than 4 inches long. They weren't there yesterday. What the hell is going to come out? AIBU to be very worried?

Tweet the picture to Chris Packham - he might pop round with a camera crew!

CountryMummy1 · 14/05/2015 00:15

If I poke it and it's hundreds of spiders I shall die on the spot!!

Hmm I'm still sticking with the fungus theory... It is not completely impossible for them to appear that quickly if conditions are right, but it's not usual I don't think. I don't think it looks neat enough for a pupa from what I can see on my phone. I appreciate I can't see the pic properly though.

DrLego · 14/05/2015 00:15

I've solved it! it must be [[https://vine.co/v/h9PBY0Z2DIz]]

Rinoachicken · 14/05/2015 00:16

Actually mushrooms can 'pop up over night' to surprising sizes when conditions are right - so after rainfall, right levels of humidity etc.

arh sorry - link here vine.co/v/h9PBY0Z2DIz

I'm in the Midlands but there's nothing like that in my shed, at least I hope there's not

FyreFly · 14/05/2015 00:17

Lego no!!! I'm also in the midlands and if it's spiders then i'm going to emigrate. To the Arctic.

The film 'Tremors' keeps popping into my mind for some reason Grin

Moln · 14/05/2015 00:18

Might not be 100s of spiders but just one giant one

CountryMummy1 · 14/05/2015 00:18

Sister is coming over tomorrow for lunch so I will get her on the camera to take a pic of the stick poking (and capture my demise if it is spiders)

I predict they'll be twice as big tomorrow Shock

WorraLiberty · 14/05/2015 00:19

This is what will come out of it.

It's quite pretty really.

It's not spiders.

Dh says it's a fungus. It's surrounded by fungus and the lump is the main body.

CountryMummy1 · 14/05/2015 00:19

Dear god DrLego!! I did not need to see that video. That is my worst nightmare Shock

Make sure all your doors and windows shut tonight op... Just in case.

Moln · 14/05/2015 00:20

Ok now I'm going with it being King Alfred's Cake. Not a giant spider, nor an alien.

Marshy · 14/05/2015 00:21

Lego I saw one of the comments on that link saying 'my fucking skin is crawling' and decided to look no further. My imagination is running riot now!

MiscellaneousAssortment · 14/05/2015 00:21

Ugh I'm horrified and revolted, yet somehow need to know. Shudders.

DrLego · 14/05/2015 00:21

DrLego · 14/05/2015 00:22

hiddenhome · 14/05/2015 00:22

He says not to touch it as the spores can get into your lungs.
