This is so bizarre...

DP just returned from Tesco having bought a 12.5g box of Amber Leaf tobacco. When he tore off the cellophane and looked inside the box he found no tobacco and precisely seven sheets of toilet paper and 2 two-pence pieces! What the devil is going on? We're just sat here, open-mouthed, staring at bog roll and coppers. Has anyone got any idea what could have happened at t'factory? Has anything like this ever happened to you? Where's our baccie?! Confused

Your contract is with Tesco, you need to tell them.

PistolWhipped · 02/09/2014 12:54

Thanks, folks. I am most puzzled by the fact that, when DP bought the supposedly 'switched' packet, it was fully sealed in cellophane. How do they explain THAT?!

OP posts:
grocklebox · 02/09/2014 12:56

its easy to seal things in cellophane, you just need a small machine.

PistolWhipped · 02/09/2014 12:58

I want free stuff!

I'm with EatShitDerek on the new 19-pack, it's strange. Hmm

Surely Tesco should replace the packet, at the very least?

NorbertDentressangle · 02/09/2014 13:02

Grin JoycDivision - I am going to be stifling a laugh at my desk all afternoon now!

I desperately want to share it with someone but don't think my boss would find it as funny.

PistolWhipped can't believe that email which basically says " shame, but tough!". Get to Tesco and they should exchange it.

anotherdayanothersquabble · 02/09/2014 13:02

What a pain!!

Thanks for the laugh crazynanna

SpringItOn · 02/09/2014 13:27

But that's a really dumb thing to do Hmm

They'll be able to identify the checkout person immediately from the receipt/CCTV

grocklebox · 02/09/2014 13:29

What has the checkout person got to do with anything? There is no suggestion they did anything wrong.

differentnameforthis · 02/09/2014 13:31

Just email them back & say thanks for the explanation, but I am x pounds out of pocket, what you gunna do about it!

SpringItOn · 02/09/2014 13:32

Have I read it wrong? I thought it meant the tobacco had been switched at point of sale?

I did only skim it though.

grocklebox · 02/09/2014 13:32

Why should the maker do anything about it? Do keep up, its the shop who has a responsibilty here.

grocklebox · 02/09/2014 13:33

switched in the shop by a previous "customer" then put back on the shelf unknown to the retailer.

SpringItOn · 02/09/2014 13:43
Blush

That's genius awful! Who'd have thought it!

ImperialBlether · 02/09/2014 13:56

Ohh I read this too quickly and thought the OP had written to Tesco.

Of course it's Tesco you should be dealing with, OP. Your contract was with them.

crazynanna · 02/09/2014 15:22

But if they can afford a cellophane machine then why can they not afford a packet of baccie? Unless it's on a grand scale mafia type baccie-switching gang

PistolWhipped · 02/09/2014 15:25

I've just come back from Tesco with a hamper of booze, some gender-specific toys, a £100 voucher and a massive grovelling apology. The manager also offered to bring me to orgasm.

I'm kidding, of course, they said their retailers 'couldn't possibly have been fooled by such a scam. They're very vigilant, you know' (this delivered by some patronising turd with the assistant stood behind him yawning!) Sad

PistolWhipped · 02/09/2014 15:26

I'm going to write to that bald fella who tracks down feeves and scoundrels on telly in a morning.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 02/09/2014 15:35

Was the toilet paper used?
Grin

AryaOfHouseSnark · 02/09/2014 15:54

That really is bad customer service, although I think they probably do get a lot of people trying it on, they're probably sitting in the staff room now talking about the woman who had toilet paper and 2 pence pieces in her Baccy box, shaking their heads and wondering what they will come up with next.

It's not your fault though, and you shouldn't have to pay out for nothing because other people do take the piss.

What are you going to do next op ?

NorbertDentressangle · 02/09/2014 16:03

Can't believe that Tesco are saying it's not their problem either.

People these days seem to get good results on fb and twitter as companies are keen to come across as decent and positive so maybe go down that route.

I have to say though some of the quotes on this thread remind me of the good old MN -so funny! I've had a few real belly laughs eg.JoyceDivision's "Yes, you do look a twat in these" and now PistolWhipped's "The manager also offered to bring me to orgasm." (so all is not lost! Grin)

AgathaF · 02/09/2014 16:05

That is bizarre indeed. Nice line in passing the buck from both parties too.
