Calling all overseas MNers - My lovely boy has written some letters

AllYouNeedIsAClickyBallpoint · 12/06/2012 19:34

He's 7, and is quite taken by stamps.
He's written several letters (I'll give you an example in a minute), and I wondered if there might be some MNers in foreign parts who might help him :)

Here is one of his letters ( in very best joined-up writing:))

Dear Jamaica

If I writ you a letter, please will you send me one back, so I can see your stamps.
I am from England (Great Britan)
Good luck in the Olympics
Love from Allyouneed Junior.

There are similar letters for several countries, and his plan is to put them in an envelope with the country name on the outside, and several stamps.

Would anyone be able to send him a letter with a stamp on?
Thank you. He would be the happiest boy in the world!

harrietlichman · 14/06/2012 17:45

I have students in Pakistan, Iran, India, Sri Lanka Latvia and Lithuania - PM me and I'll see what we can get.

alexpolismum · 14/06/2012 17:46

have you already got one coming from Greece? If not, PM me and I will be happy to send one

pigpog · 14/06/2012 18:15

Another one from Denmark happy to help!

AllYouNeedIsAClickyBallpoint · 14/06/2012 18:50

HM - he's sleeping fine, it's me that's awake until 2am grinning :o

I just can't believe the response this has had! It's fantastic!

I adored getting post when I was little, specially from my mum when she was abroad, because she always did special curly writing and little pictures instead of words. Downside, I had to read it all in French!

I've popped some old metro tickets in for some reason, but PM me if he'd like the rest, which is a load of flight/train/transport tickets- thought it might be a bit weird cos they've got my name on- but I used to play for ages with them pretending I was going on a round the world trip. I hang on to them for the sentimental value but they're not v. useful just in a drawer like that.

HaveALittleFaith · 14/06/2012 20:07

I just posted in chat asking where MNetters were from and someone pointed me in the direction of this thread. It's luffly! How exciting for him as the letters start rolling in!

youarekidding · 14/06/2012 20:15

I am an ex Rep and also lived abroad for a bit (with DS father who now lives in a different country with his DW).

I will create a sin that is MN and ask on FB for everyone over the world to send me some stamps. DS dad is a stamp collector so he should understand!!

I can't garuntee the response but know I may be able to cover Greece, Tenerife, Germany, USA, Spain, France with my requests.

I'll PM you when I have some more info.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 14/06/2012 20:18

I'm in USA too and would be happy to send a letter/postcard or two? PM me

AllYouNeedIsAClickyBallpoint · 15/06/2012 21:00

O received two humongous parcels today!
One from Foureyesgood - a whole stamp collection Shock I don't know how to start and thank you.

Another one (I'm not sure who you are here - possibly quirrelquarrel? Please let me know :)) a beautiful decorated shoe box full of postcards, leaflets and stamps, and a little chalk mr punch thing - which he is very taken with, and has it in his bed!

To say I'm overwhelmed today is a complete understatement. I am in awe of your generosity, and I can't thank you enough xx

Um, that's me :-) I think! at least- is it the Roald Dahl box? I kept looking around my room thinking what a 7 year old boy might like to do with geography and countries and eventually the chocolate box I had wasn't big enough, so I unearthed that from my bookcase.

I'm so glad he likes it! :D you're very welcome.

grumpleteaser · 15/06/2012 21:47

pm me if you want a Bulgarian stamp to put on the map!

trumpton · 15/06/2012 21:47

Squee indeed ! Glad the water wheel got there. :o)

StateofConfusion · 15/06/2012 22:03

This is wonderful! I'm in boring norfolk so I'm no use. But this thread makes me smile.

AllYouNeedIsAClickyBallpoint · 15/06/2012 22:21

When he opened up the parcels, he was speechless (for the first time ever ), I was speechless and teary!
I know I'm repeating myself here, but I honestly thought I'd get a couple of replies, and that would be it. I never in my wildest dreams imagined this!
O is so excited to see the different stamps, and is amazed at how much better they are than our boring old uk ones!

I think it was squirted further up who suggested a world map and stickers - thank you for that idea, the map should arrive tomorrow :o

My dh is a stamp collector and he said if there are any countries you are missing PM me with a list and your address and he'll see if he has any to add to your ds's collection. He thinks it's great your ds is interested in it Grin.

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 16/06/2012 00:14

AllYouNeed, I can send you a stamp from the Vatican, if your DS would like that? I wont be posting it from the Vatican, so it won't be on a letter addressed to your DS with a Vatican stamp, IYKWIM, but I have received letters with a Vatican stamp, so can send a stamp on (or a few different stamps, if I can find all of the letters). PM me your address if you'd like me to send some to you. Delighted for your DS, he must be thrilled to have received so many different stamps Grin.

Wherearemyearplugs · 16/06/2012 00:38

I'm in the States, I'll help! PM me!

sagenod · 16/06/2012 01:42

Letter in the post tomorrow without fail :)

ElaineBenes · 16/06/2012 02:24

Can get you a UN stamp (yes, they have their own stamps!). PM if you'd like and I can pop a postcard to him.

Mustgettogym · 16/06/2012 03:18

I can do Doha (lovely 5 year old Zara), Dubai or Pakistan? :)

Feel free to PM me but I'm back in London on 22nd!

bunnygirl80 · 16/06/2012 10:41

I posted my letter yesterday. Unfortunately the Australian postal service have launched a collection of stamps in honour of the jubilee that just feature the queen's head, and don't look too far removed from a UK first class stamp! Had to plead with the miserable woman behind the counter to find me one with a more interesting picture on it Grin

AllYouNeedIsAClickyBallpoint · 16/06/2012 12:35

Very exciting letterbox today :o

A postcard from Helsinki, one from Luxembourg, some stamps from Sierra Leone, and a beautiful card with stamps from Germany.

Thank you ThanksThanks
