Hi

this is my first post but have lurked for sometime. My 3yo DS has lost his favourite stuffed dog tonight in Blackpool and I am putting a plea out there if anyone can help me! Its a very tatty looking, sorry well loved(!) dog and we dropped it near the south pier about 7pm-long search but no joy. I am devastated and feel so sorry for him-he sobbed all the way home-as did I. I hope someone can help us.

Any suggestions how we can make him feel better tomorrow? Thinking build a bear and obviously lots of hugs but if you have been in a similar situation any ideas are more than welcome.

Many thanks in advance
Balletpump

ps-if you saw me sobbing on Blackpool front and stopped to help thank you as well x

......and big hugs xx

ifeellove · 29/10/2011 20:43

Aw what a lovely thread. Hope the original turns up or a passable stand in appears.

It also reminded me that I saw a well loved dog/sheep/teddy at the bus stop today so if anyone else has lost a cuddly friend he may well still be waiting at the bus stop near McDonald Road library off Leith Walk.

bumbums · 29/10/2011 20:46

Dogger!

jasminerice · 29/10/2011 20:56

Ahh, I can imagine how you all felt. Many times we thought our DS's beloved blanket was lost and I used to feel sick until it was found. We were lucky it never got totally lost, just occasionally left behind at grandma's.

I'll happily send your DS a postcard. We're in London, am sure he'd love to hear about how his doggie is enjoying visiting Buckingham Palace etc.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 29/10/2011 21:02

Oh BP, I've only just seen this thread.

I'm so sorry that you've all had to go through such an ordeal.

We've been lucky in that DS1 never got really attached to a toy, and ds2 has a "home bear" and a "nursery bear" and the 2 both provide comfort. I can only imagine how you, and paticularly your ds, are feeling.

Whatever tactic you decide to employ will be right for you all. I live in sunny Barry (South Wales) so if you'd like a postcard winging its way from here, just PM me.

Fingers crossed that your ds gets through this without too much further upset.

EmLH · 29/10/2011 21:37

I actually cried a bit reading the post about getting a replacement from Germany by pretending to be a toy shop. The things we do for our kids eh, I could see myself flying to Germany if my DD was that upset!

We've had a few near misses with her fave knitted dolly (made by great nan's elderly neighbour so no chance of replacement) but luckily have found her each time due to kind people putting her aside. Now she has a long piece of ribbon around her neck so that she can be tied to the pushchair or a buttonhole etc. If she ever went missing I would be gutted and I remember that awful panic feeling you get in your stomach very clearly.

I really hope that you manage to get the original back, it would be such a lovely end to the story. Do keep us all posted

balletpump · 29/10/2011 22:26

And the kindness continues here! I have just PM'd those offering postcards- these offers are fabulous!(sorry been watching strictly- blame Craig)
DS went to bed ok with new dog but no news on original and the best. Now we wait 6 days on eBay! And hope we can pull of the biggest bluff of the year!
Sorry if my op made anyone cry or panicked anyone. He is my only so doomed to my pfb forever!

Auction sniper to ensure you get him on ebay? Smile

storminabuttercup · 29/10/2011 22:40

Just seen this, my mum has a few dogs like that, going there to check tomorrow! Hope ebay pays off though!

storminabuttercup · 29/10/2011 22:41

Also happy to postcard from west yorks!!!

kipperandtiger · 29/10/2011 22:43

Hello, balletpump (love your name by the way) - I live near an airport. Would your DS like a postcard from there while Doggie is "in transit"? If you would, PM me if you're not too busy.

By the way, what is Doggie's name - does he have one? (apologies if you posted already and I missed it). I absolutely think he cannot possibly be in a bin - he's probably in some communal play area because people don't generally bin soft toys, no matter how old they are. Yes, you absolutely must not go searching with DS present. It would be traumatic for him. If you can't go yourself, you could get a neighbour or friend who is going there to take some flyers (with Doggie's Flickr photo on it) to have a little search and ask around - maybe even a fresh pair of eyes might help.

Keeping my fingers crossed for him to turn up, no matter how late in the day. Actually, when I was little I had a soft toy I loved a lot too, and would have been devastated if he got lost. We all remember a bit of that. It's not about spoiling any child, it's about our memories and sense of security and feeling loved and cosy. Hugs for you and DS (don't care what other MNers think!).

EustaciaVye · 29/10/2011 22:46

This reminds me of a kind MNer a few years ago who sent me a substitute Monkey as DD was attatched to one and they no longer made them. I was very grateful. x

radiohelen · 29/10/2011 22:47

Aw Ballet - only just seen this. I hope you get it sorted one way or the other. It's awful to see little ones distressed. The ebay dog looks a good match if you don't find him.
Toy Story has a lot to answer for! I spent an afternoon with tears and tea wracked with guilt over dumping a load of tiny broken plastic soldiers in the bin. Sending them off to the "INCINERATOR"... I had visions of them shaking hands like the musicians on the Titanic... "it's been an honour serving with you sir"... as they go over the edge into the flames.

TheSandstoneCat · 29/10/2011 22:52

Would be happy to send a postcard from Brussels explaining his part in the new Tintin film if you want to pm me!! Also a loving mother to an only boy so know just how you feel. xxx

kipperandtiger · 29/10/2011 23:17

Radiohelen - shouldn't laugh but the Titanic analogy is kind of funny in a dark humour sort of way.

3cutedarlings · 29/10/2011 23:36

Aww MN at its finest again :) Balletpump Regarding the ebay seller, ask them to add a buy it now to the Auction, im sure if you explain the situation they'll be happy to and then you dont have to wait the 6 days for the auction to end.

Haggyoldclothbatspus · 30/10/2011 00:28

Its not very exciting, but Im sure I could send a postcard from historic Colchester if you like.
I know its a long shot, but have you tried contacting the road sweepers? Ive got a friend who does this, and kids toys dont get thrown away immediately, they adorn her cart for a few days first to see if they get rescued!

Completely understand the Toy Story woe- I keep thinking of dog like Lotso- before he goes bad! Not helped by the fact it poured down last night! Will try road sweepers tomorrow- great idea.
We have emailed the buyer including this link and although they have been very sympathetic and also have IDed the dog they won't sell now(fair enough)- so a long week ahead!
