As the name suggests, I am sadly (but not that sadly) doing a shiney penguin....

Quick potted history. With boyfriend 9 months. Not that serious but we had had the exclusive talk. Met on a dating site.

About a month ago had a feeling something wasn't right. Few nights he was supposed to be here and cancelled for dopey reasons that set my spidey sense tingling.

Looked on the dating site and lo and beholdy there is was, active, having logged in in the last 24 hours.

But I am not as stupid as he thinks I am.

I set up a profile called thisblokeliesandcheats (it's been taken down) with all his details except photo and spelled out what he'd done (thanks whoever that was who suggested that one) and I will probably do it again

At this point he's said he's coming here Thursday night to stop for the weekend (he doesn't work Friday)

BUT he has also arranged to meet "Anna" off the dating site at a lovely new restaurant for lunch on the Friday about an hour away from here (half an hour from his house)

Obviously, I am Anna.

So, how long do I keep this going. My teeth are itching I want to tell him so much Grin

Am also a little upset, but I had nothing invested in the relationship, so my pride has taken a hit and I feel a bit of a mug but other than that am grand.

Think I will take the time to read it all now. Sounds like you did well Grin.

TrillianAstra · 27/08/2011 12:50

The beautiful thing is how many people knew exactly what a shiney pengin was :o

HauntedLittleLunatic · 27/08/2011 12:56

Well I knee what a shiny penguin was:

Sadly, I know the thread you mean and they were talking about two other threads. I know because I had no clue which ones and they had to tell me. Two entirely different, serious-type threads.

I think being called a troll is a badge of honour now anyway, like being called a bully (had that) or a racialmalist (and that) or a deeply sinister and tedious caaaaahh (all the time). Don't worry about it Smile

Thumbwitch · 27/08/2011 14:17

Haunted, that's freakish!

TartyMcFarty · 27/08/2011 14:41

Yeah, sorry I have my suspicions about all long and involved threads at the moment, but I'm enjoying this one (in a non-sadistic way, you understand?) immensely. I'm glad it's for real.

I hope he's licking his wounds today, and seriously, if you PM a link, MNers could string the bastard along on all manner of phantom dates until he finally gives up and has to rely on his personal 'charms' alone.

TrillianAstra · 27/08/2011 14:48

Eeek, monster penguin!

TrillianAstra · 27/08/2011 14:50

Just to be clear that is the original original Shiney penguin thread.

Someone higher up linked "part 2, the penguin has landed" but it doesn't make sense without the first bit.

SuePurblybilt · 27/08/2011 14:51

Jakers, just clicked the link. Scarius Prime Penguin Grin

Poshbaggirl · 27/08/2011 15:26

I think if you spend too long obsessing on MN, you probably dont have a life. And therefore get a bit jealous of those who have interesting stuff going on. These are the trolls and the ones deciding everyone else is a troll 'takes one to know one' coz they dont have a life.
I was Hmm when i saw people bitching about this thread last night. They're just jealous coz they dont have their own classic 1000 comment thread.
Nah nah.

Thanks ladies.

Feel a lot better. Fell asleep for a couple of hours, having had no lunch, woke up starving and went to make beans on toast. Put beans in bowl to heat in microwave, turned round and almost put them down the sink.

GypsyMoth · 27/08/2011 16:34

we need a penguin emoticon you know!

TrillianAstra · 27/08/2011 17:21

I've done things like that before when half-asleep :o AT least you only almost put them down the sink.

wellthatsdoneit · 27/08/2011 18:00

Hurray for you Penguins! Hurray! Sorry you had the misfortune to encounter such a bellend but how delicious to get to dump him on his ass TWICE! Justice has been done and the equilibrium in a small but significant part of the universe has been restored. In fact the more I think about it the more I think you were chosen to deal this 'man' his retribution.

sadlydoingshineypenguins · 27/08/2011 18:25

Trill - I suppose if I was a troll I would have put them down the sink, blocked the sink, had to call the emergency plumber who charged me £467.34 to sort it? Grin

OP posts:
SuePurblybilt · 27/08/2011 18:36

Grin. You would. After posting a real time account of you trying to unscrew the U bend, losing your wedding ring down the waste pipe and drip feeding information about previous Sad Events. Trolls are like X Factor candidates, they always have had Sad Times.

MigratingCoconuts · 27/08/2011 19:03

please! please

Can I be your sock puppet???

here goes: I completely support everything you say and actually know who you are in real life and everything....

ps read the original thread and will never look at penguin bars in the same way again after all this Grin

tigerdriverII · 27/08/2011 19:56

Hi all

Read this thread last night (where did that hour and a half go?) and loved it, have only just been able to post. Well done sadly especially with the stripey solidarity, loving it. Really sorry though that you've have to deal with this chancer - but better find out now than later I guess.

Also loving a little bit of nostalgia from the first penguin escapade .

youarekidding · 27/08/2011 22:04

I'm so glad shiney came back on here.

The original thread was a classic, as was the squirty cream one. That's what I love about the classics, they really stick in your head. Shame they are usually about somebodies misfortune.

Sad though when people can't just let a thread be what it is without trying to spoil it.

GlaikitFizzog · 27/08/2011 22:52

I saw the penguin walk at the zoo today and thought of you Sadly (and the original Shiney). They were very cute and had no idea that they are now forever immortilised in MN classics! :o
