CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL - TUESDAY 12th - FRIDAY 15th MARCH 2019

The offers I am planning to take advantage of are:-

  • Skybet - money back as cash if you lose - up to £20 - 1st Race every day of the festival. Expected Value: £16 per day, £64 in total
  • betway - if your horse loses in the first or last race at Cheltenham each day, we’ll refund you with a Free Bet up to £/€10 in each race. Expected Value: £6 per race, £48 in total
  • Ladbrokes - £1 free bet each day of the festival. Expected Value: £0.70 per race, £2.80 in total
  • William Hill - I have a few £5 free bets already set up which should credit to be used on Tuesday.
  • Matchbook- £20 free bet sign up offer.

I'm interested in the extra place offers offered by Betfred & Paddy Power but don't think I know enough about horse racing to do these and also I will only be online early morning and evenings after 9pm. Also the double winnings at Coral are interesting. I wish I understood the offers at Betfair Sportsbook & Exchange as these are probably good too. I might look into all these a bit more.

I've discounted using Racebets and Sportspesa as they have bad reviews and/or are super quick to gub. I didn't get the Bet365 offer Sad or I'd be taking full advantage of that!

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm feeling a bit bamboozled, so much so that I'm just want to close the laptop down and run away and forget the whole thing is happening! So to keep my sanity, I'm probably going to choose just a few good offers as listed above and concentrate on those and maybe some Cheltenham casino offers too. I'm aware there's stacks of cash to be made though, hopefully you are going for the big £££! That being said, I'd absolutely love your tips and to hear your plans so thay we can make some money together! It's also be interesting to know targets. Mine is £250 for the week but this will include weekly stuff (bet clubs, price boosts, darts) and also casino.

If anyone has bet as a matched bettor at Cheltenham before, I (and am sure everyone!) would be grateful for your advice and help so please post!

misstiggiewinkle did you get the email saying £50 mine was only £25. I then had to put £25 on any other race than 3.30 then got free bet immediately for 3.30.

Golden0ldie · 12/03/2019 15:59

I'm dizzy from trying to keep track. Yeah, I was stupid punting Sky and won't do the same tomorrow! Up a bit but not sure how much!

scandilover · 12/03/2019 16:05

I know I am jumping on this thread and this really has nothing to do with the OP, but I am just starting to learn about matched betting by watching the tutorials etc Too scared to try it until I am really ready- how long did it take you to feel confident enough to start? I have £100 to start with but I just want to make sure everything makes complete sense in my head before taking the plunge, if that day ever comes!

KOKOagainandagain · 12/03/2019 16:05

Fairy - I had exactly the same experience with Betfair! I came out of a meeting with the LA about DS1's EHCP and all my bets had disappeared an hour before the start of the first race and about £500 was gone from my account. There were about 12 bets I had laid at about 5 different bookies. So I laid them again at Smarkets only to find that the 'lost' invisible bets were still being settled. Luckily I have a talent for backing losers. I have no idea where I am financially but I do know that my stress levels are off the scale. (We need a steam coming out of ears emoji).

KOKOagainandagain · 12/03/2019 16:17

Moplay are doing £10 bet on tonight's champions league for a £5 free bet days 2,3 and 4. Can't remember if it's only mobile. MoPlay are doing £20 on 17:30 for £10 free bet tomorrow. I think they are also doing. Betvictor are also doing bet of £20 for £5FB tomorrow. Might just be mobile and I might have mixed up which bookie is offering which offer but in my defence my brain hurts.

Fairyliz · 12/03/2019 16:22

Wow The Favourite was leading the field in the 4.10 and fell at the last fence. Apparently that means the bookies will be up £50 million on one race. Hope that means lots more offers!
The horse and jockey are fine btw didn’t want you to think I am totally heartless!

YesQueen · 12/03/2019 16:35

Was going to do the moplay bet 20 get 10 but the odds are shocking. Don't want to take a £4QL for a £10FB

StereophonicallyChallenged · 12/03/2019 16:46

After reading this thread in my lunchtime today I decided to take the plunge and place some no lose bets (complete newbie)

So I've put £20 on for the first race with skybet. That seemed simple enough, either I win, or get my money back.

Feeling emboldened I looked for other similar offers and now I think I've made a mistake already!!
I am hoping one of you clever people can explain to me what to do in small words Grin

I found matchbook.com which also said they are offering a refund for the first bet you place up to £20. I've set up an account and deposited £20 - but know I can't tell what to do at all.

It is one of the lay betting sites and I think I'm just being hard of thinking!! Can anyone help??

The terms include Your first matched exchange bet must be a back or lay selection - I thought I could just pick a different horse on the first Cheltenham Race with no risk (refund if loses) but now I'm not sure - have I got this wrong?

Maybe its not for me after all Grin

thefavourite · 12/03/2019 17:01

@StereophonicallyChallenged, meant very kindly, but Cheltenham week is probably not the best place to start! Skybet was risk free but there was a good way to lock in £14-£17 so you would have been better doing that and then you'd have guaranteed profit. Matchbook, you can lay or back(so use it as a bookie & use a different exchange) - be way of their commission though!. I actually opened a Matchbook account yesterday and placed a back bet. Luckily it won at Matchbook so I don't have to wait for the refund of £20 but annoyingly this took £175 out of my Exchange balance the night before Cheltenham!

There are great sign-ups this week though so if you have the bank, you should maybe look into these? Good luck!

KOKOagainandagain · 12/03/2019 17:08

Yes - otoh you can hide in the crowd and place your FB on a high odds back with close lay odds without fear of being gubbed so high QL but high retention of FB.

KOKOagainandagain · 12/03/2019 17:13

Stereo - I think moplay are doing a £5 FB for each race for new customers.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2019 17:14

WH £3 profit
Red 90p qual loss, no free bet cos it won.
Sky £16 up but lost at the bookie so my profit tracker says I’m down but really I’m up because I got refunded for my back bet and won at the exchange.

Stereo Join free bets for all or team profit and look on there for the workings out. No need to give up so early. I’m still confused now.

StereophonicallyChallenged · 12/03/2019 17:14

Ha! don't worry OP, I do realise it wasn't a good time to start matched betting (which I didn't really want to do anyway!)

I thought matchbook was like skybet or coral or PP - stupid I know! I just wanted to take advantage of any no-lose offers.

I guess I'll have to read up on how to do it properly now then so I don't just waste the £20 I've paid in.

eye-rolling myself here Grin

YesQueen · 12/03/2019 17:16

Finally got moplay bet 20 on ballyward for a £1 QL. Had to be so quick to get the odds!

YesQueen · 12/03/2019 17:17

@StereophonicallyChallenged I would still do skybet for the rest of Cheltenham, no risk and then you can start properly

StereophonicallyChallenged · 12/03/2019 17:22

Thanks KeepOn & Fluffy, once I've deciphered your posts I'm sure they will be very useful Grin

StereophonicallyChallenged · 12/03/2019 17:25

I think you might be right YesQueen!

Give myself some time to work it all out! I was suckered in by the refund up to £20 option, thought it was a regular site!

Complete novice!
Off to look and see if there are any actual free bets to put on the horses tomorrow now, I'm a totally new customer so fingers crossed...

KOKOagainandagain · 12/03/2019 18:41

According to smarkets I have placed 33 bets in the last 24 hours. They are all lay bets so this can be doubled. Then Matchbook and Betfair. Plus these are all trigger bets. No wonder I am stressed. I can only hope that when I plug the numbers into my profit tracker spreadsheet I have made a profit.

DonkeyScramble · 12/03/2019 19:25

I've obviously made a profit today but not as much as it should have been. Punted a few extra places races which didn't pay off, cocked up a couple of bets, and wasted £ on the Unibet offer (FB if you back the winner) so I shan't bother with that one tomorrow. Clearly the favourite never wins!

Paddy's was good; placed in 3 races so that's 3 * £10 FB.

Just placed my Bet365 trigger bet for tomorrow and lucked out with the odds so will make a little profit from that! Worked from home today and thank god else I'd have been screwed!

YesQueen · 12/03/2019 19:34

Anyone who hasn't, worth logging back into 365. I got a pop up for Bayern match tonight, bet £25, get a £25 in play FB Grin

StereophonicallyChallenged · 12/03/2019 19:35

I've been reading for hours not sure I'm any the wiser tbh Confused

I've signed up to 3 sites for risk free (stake returned as cash) bet for the 1st race at Cheltenham tomorrow.

All seem's legit, so I can just watch the race and hope one of them wins - and no worries if not i think

Have joined free bets 4 all , thanks pp who suggested that Smile

thefavourite · 12/03/2019 19:40

Hi @StereophonicallyChallenged, have you already backed and layed or would you consider locking in profit? We could help you with this?

Matchbook is a betting exchange but you can also place back bets.

OP posts:
Coppermine · 12/03/2019 19:41

@scandilover sorry I don't think you've had a response yet. We're all a bit crazy headless chickens this week. Apparently Cheltenham is the biggest event of the year for matched betting!!

I watched the videos a few times and then I just went for it with the coral offer. I thought worse case scenario is I lose £5-10 if I got it wrong. But if you follow the steps exactly then it shouldn't happen. I found once I did the first bet it made more sense so I then felt more confident to move on. I started early December and I'm now nearly £1600 profit, so it's worth trying it!!

Hope that helps!

thefavourite · 12/03/2019 19:45

So I've ended the afternoon £61/£62 in profit with an inplay £10 FB with Unibet to use on the football tonight, so I'm happy with that! I lucked out with 3 x £10 FB from placed horses with Paddy Power too @DonkeyScramble.

@KeepOnKeepingOnAgainandAgain, I'm interesred to hear how much you've made!

OP posts:
miltonroad · 12/03/2019 19:51

I hit 3 on paddy too 👍🏻 a couple of risk frees on bet 365 and corals double winnings plus used some free bets up, and was lucky and got some BOG 😃 good but stressful day 😂
