I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

Bluemum, it’s definitely possible. I’m certain I read the other day of someone who started with £15 and is doing really well. I used Odds Monkey, still do, and pay monthly to access their extras such as Oddsmatcher but I think there are Oddsmatcher’s elsewhere. Team Profit fb is simply brilliant and they have a newbies page if you search for it. Here’s a link to their Starting with £25 plan (from there it hops to £100). www.teamprofit.com/starting-with-25. It’s a good place to start. Otherwise, look on OM, Getting Started and the guides there literally walk you through your first few sign ups, from there go to the New Customer Offers section. Good luck!

I'd use the team profit website @bluemumsbluedog. It has a walk through of the first accounts to open, deposit and bet with there:-

Well it's slim pickings today on the MB front! I am desperately trying to use my FBs but cannot find good matches! There seems to be no club football on this weekend due to international qualifiers and friendlies so that'll be why. Odds differences between bookie and exchange are enormous though so I can't seem to place free bets or its possible but I can't expect the usual profit.

I managed to make £10 from the Betfred Live Casino offer on Blackjack (first time playing, terrifying!) and £3.05 from Bet365 free spins plus Sky bingo have deposited £2.50 in my account as some kind of bonus, thank you for that Sky!

Thank you @titchy, @Golden0ldie and @thefavourite I will do some reading of team profit and odds monkey.
I have been thinking about it for a while and wish I had taken the leap earlier when i had some money given to me but wasn't sure about risking it then.
As long as I can take advantage of the free bets and cashback, i should be ok though and starting small until I find my feet is probably less stressful then throwing huge sums at it which i cannot afford to lose.

Sorry to barge in on the thread. I need distraction because I am fretting I've messed up my matched bet. Something is niggling away at me and I can't put my finger on what exactly.

I won't know until after 9pm tonight.

Eek.

thefavourite · 18/03/2019 20:13

Talk us through it @TanselleTooTall. What is the bet and what are the odds?

TanselleTooTall · 18/03/2019 21:10

Oh thank you, that's nice of you.

You know what it was: the exchange site was Smarkets and I found it hard to navigate. Trying to find the the specifics of the football match (1-0) and then laying the bet was proving confusing.

I had trouble registering with smarkets a week ago. I was told to contact live support because of a(n assumed, I suppose) discrepancy with my email details. I didn't have time to and left it until today to clarify with CS. I attempted log in, thinking I wouldn't be able to but all was fine. I deposited my money ok.

I'm on my phone so will try to get details of odds.

I had to put in liability money of 95 pounds for a profit of almost 16 pounds. Dunno if it's worth it for the palpitations Grin

thefavourite · 18/03/2019 21:11

'Watching' the Heather Watson tennis match (on Smarkets!). I have underlaid £10 on a price boost, if she wins 2-0, I win £10!

thefavourite · 18/03/2019 21:15

So do you think you've backed and laid different bets Tanselle?

If you've backed and layed correctly then you should get the profit regardless of the outcome? What was it though, not much happening today?!

I don't know what kind of phone you have, but if it's a smartphone, Smarkets mobile site is easy to navigate.

TanselleTooTall · 18/03/2019 21:24

Then on Smarkets it look like i had placed the bet twice. The first time I placed the bet Smarkets told me I needed to verify my email address via the link in my inbox. Quickly did so, then came back to the site and placed the bet.

Is it possible to place the bet twice? I had 95 pounds liability in the account. I shouldn't think so but what would I know.

thefavourite · 18/03/2019 21:27

What does it say in your Active bets section?

TanselleTooTall · 18/03/2019 21:27

Smarkets

TanselleTooTall · 18/03/2019 21:29

Does it read ok?

thefavourite · 18/03/2019 21:39

You're fine Tanselle, all good (as long as you backed the same score on the same match with the bookie!)

thefavourite · 18/03/2019 21:57

This thread is nearly full, new thread:-

Miltonroad · 18/03/2019 23:26

That does look fine Tanselle as long as you’ve backed the same score at the bookies- can I suggest though that you don’t place bets on random teams as they’re likely to stick out at the bookies

There’s international football later in the week which will have more liquidity at the exchange and more punters will be placing bets on it
