I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

I've seen that offer too Golden0ldie but the fees put me off. And whilst you don't have to wager the deposit, I think you're meant to if you want to keep the reload offers coming. So I've heard.

ChakiraChakra · 03/03/2019 23:55

I was waiting to top £500 to do a little jig, but I've done £610 without realising it 😁 6 weeks tomorrow.

dalecooperscoffeecup · 04/03/2019 05:57

Has anyone had problems registering with Betfair? I'm awaiting a reply to my query but I keep getting an error message about having a duplicate account or unsuccessfully registering before. To my knowledge I've done neither 🤔

Golden0ldie · 04/03/2019 08:28

dale, no problems here. Try live chat or calling them.

Chakira, that’s brilliant, well done. I’m slow at this ... my bank hit £1006 yesterday but I started in November with £148, topped up with another £50. Now focusing on Cheltenham next week and wondering where to have my money. Should I clear all bookies somI have it in my bank account, make a coupke of exchange deposits via paypal so I can withdraw faster ... decisions, decisions!

bringincrazyback · 04/03/2019 13:04

Quick question from a rookie. I'm slowly getting to grips with matched betting, but I just wondered if banks are likely to 'kick off' if they start seeing multiple small transactions coming in and out of the account, if you see what I mean? I see some people are saying they use a separate bank account, which I'm considering but as that's a bit hassly I'm just wondering whether it's really necessary...

Coppermine · 04/03/2019 15:06

I think a lot of people have a separate account just purely because of the volume of payments going in and out. I wouldn't want to mix it with my bills account for example as I want to make sure all my bills are covered.

The banks wouldn't have an issue with it. The only think to be cautious of is mortgage/remortgage applications as lender will want to see bank statements and may not lend if they think someone is 'gambling'.

ChakiraChakra · 04/03/2019 15:29

Definitely get a separate bank account, it's not hassle at all! Do make sure it's a current account, (i tried to repurpose a savings account but turned out it wasn't a debit card, oops). Mine is with the same bank I do my regular banking with, so I see it through the same phone app, can move money around easily etc.

I've made over £1000 worth of £10-£20 a time payments in the last month, and I don't even do MB particularly much. Around that many transactions have been paid in, too. It really, REALLY is worth getting a separate account.

ChakiraChakra · 04/03/2019 15:36

Incidentally, my banks phone app was glitchy, so I ended up making an appointment to open the account. What I actually ended up with was a complete review of all my accounts, I'm saving a lot of money on credit fees and interest and I'm being paid better interest on my balances, and I've got a load of free cinema tickets as a perk on one of my (upgraded at no extra cost) accounts! My finances are in much better order. I'd highly recommend doing a review of your accounts with your bank to anybody, and opening a new account for matched betting (I was reluctant to say what I was doing but did, said it was martin lewis approved risk free (it is) and they were fine, couldn't care less), is an ideal time to review if your bank accounts are working for you and not hard or scary as I imagined.

bringincrazyback · 04/03/2019 16:00

@ChakiraChakra that's interesting, I think you've inspired me to do the same! (and you've definitely convinced me re a separate bank account Grin)

thefavourite · 04/03/2019 17:11

So I am just about 2 months in (a couple of days shy of) and now have £800 profit in various bookies and exchanges. I reckon I've made about £1,000 but used small amounts here and there (life expenses and OM membership), my 'banked' profit is £800 to date. I was aiming for £80 per week so I'm smashing it!

I'm up another over £90 today too but I won't formally count my week's profits until Sunday so another 6 days to go! Today's bumper profit is:-

  • £45.50 football index
  • £25.50 casino - wagering for free spins/bonuses or fre
  • £19.50 free bets (bet clubs)
KOKOagainandagain · 04/03/2019 17:11

Can I join in please?

I am just looking at the Betway Cheltenham offer where you get a free bet if your horse loses in the first or last race of the day. Is there a maximum odds - I have read the t&c but can't see one. What's to stop me backing an outsider that is practically guaranteed to lose (unless all the other horses fall over)?

Golden0ldie · 04/03/2019 18:00

I opened a current account with Starling especialky for this, it really does make it much easier to track.

Thefavourite, amazing! You are much braver than I am, think I tread too cautiously.

Keepon, nothing really except it may lead to a quick gubbing and the liability at the exchange will be enormous! The OM guides say to look for odds of above 5.0 for your free bet and the general advice I have read is keep it below 8.0. Remember also, the horse you are backing to lose is your trigger bet which will give you a qualifying loss which you want to keep to as few pence as possible so you need this bet to be at short odds with a close match at the exchange. Then on your free bet look for 6/7’s. HTH.

DonkeyScramble · 04/03/2019 20:56

Recommend the buzzbingo justice League escalator slot offer. It's scary as you have to put in £60 but I came away £40 in profit. Had I bailed before the final stage I'd have been £50 up.

YesQueen · 04/03/2019 21:49

@DonkeyScramble is it no risk?

KOKOagainandagain · 04/03/2019 21:56

Golden - duh! - now that you have pointed it out, its an obvious gubbing fast track and makes no sense on a trigger bet. I have only been doing this for about 6 weeks and am in a constant state of stressed confusion Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/03/2019 06:45

Heads & heads have some training stuff you can access with no subscription.

Fairyliz · 05/03/2019 20:53

DonkeyScramble thanks for the heads up about the buzz Bingo justice league.

I only did the first level so deposited £10 but then came away with £19.95. Not a huge amount but £9.95 for five minutes is a good rate of pay!

KOKOagainandagain · 06/03/2019 12:23

Signed up to netbet yesterday and placed qualifying bet for football match tonight between PSG and Man Utd. Logged on today to upload documents in case my bet wins and I have already been gubbed. WTF.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/03/2019 12:36

Did they ask for documents?

Fairyliz · 06/03/2019 12:52

Wow that's a bit harsh.

Do you think that some of these bookies are part of the same company? I am often surprised when they have the same games, same account layout etc.

thefavourite · 06/03/2019 13:06

@DonkeyScramble and @Fairyliz, thank you for the Buzz Bingo tip. I won £16.90 from 10 free spins on Jackpot Giant for joining then £26.35 profit from Justice League. Add this to £21.66 from Jackpot Joy (wagering £5 to get a Box Bonanza game), £6.10 from Gala Casino new account/free spins and 71p on Monopoly Casino free spins; it's been a bumper morning earning over £70! I'd better go to my actual job now!

I'm on track to make £200 this week with the above plus all usual weekly bet clubs and trigger/free bets.

I am a bit bamboozled with Cheltenham but read some good advice on OM earlier that if you are feeling overwhelmed, short of time and unsure what offers to spend time on, then best to pick a few based on time & bank available and close your ears/eyes to the rest, as its too easy to get stressed and make mistakes. Therefore I wondered if we should start a 'Matched Bettors - 1st time at Cheltenham' thread to help us all get through and not get bamboozled?! Please let me know what you think?

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/03/2019 13:24

£31.20 kitty bingo new member offer. You wager £5 to get £10 from quidco but I used blood suckers slot and got £31.29 profit so I withdrew that which forfeited the bonus but that had a wagering req of 165 😮 So I don't mind that.

KOKOagainandagain · 06/03/2019 14:52

Yes they asked for documents. Redbet wanted photos of ID and bank statement/utility bill before I could even place a bet or deposit but some only ask when you try to withdraw.

Some are linked but so far I have only been gubbed by Ladbrokes but they are linked to Coral. That was within minutes of receiving an invite by email and so placing a bet with boosted odds of about 10 (immediately followed by being gubbed by coral).

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/03/2019 17:40

I’m up for Cheltenham chat.

misstiggiwinkle · 06/03/2019 18:41

Agree a Chelt thread would be good!
