I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

£7 o free spins virgin games. £1.40 on paddy power free spins.

princesseugenie · 13/03/2019 02:27

thefavourite what was your initial capital you started with? I'm starting with £200 and looking for similar profit to begin with, do you think it's doable?

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/03/2019 21:03

Free scratchcard on Betfair. I won £5.

mumoftwo1988 · 15/03/2019 11:51

Does matched betting have any affect on benefits?

Coppermine · 15/03/2019 17:47

I think only if you go above the £6k savings threshold

thefavourite · 16/03/2019 18:57

@princesseugenie, sorry I missed your message, you may have gathered that its been a very very busy week for matched bettors!. Yes, £200 sounds ideal. I think I had about that then used a wee bit more if I could spare it for a week or so as and when I needed it, always keeping a note of what money was in play (what was originally mine and what profit I'm playing with) and knowing I could withdraw what I needed (if the money wasn't tied up in a bet).

Fairyliz · 16/03/2019 18:58

Can anyone help with a logic problem?
Sky bets often do flash odds on football ACCA's so Teams A. B and C to win. (Three different matches)

If you type ACCA then team names into the smarket search box you can often find these already set up. I was told to put my lay bet in the yes box. But surely the opposite of 'yes they will all win' is No. So could you place a back bet on No or am I missing something?

thefavourite · 16/03/2019 19:00

Yes I know what you mean Fluffy and have wondered this myself. There is a good answer as to why not and I'll link to it if I find it!

titchy · 16/03/2019 19:41

Fairy do you mean backing No at Smarkets? In which case yes you could - use the dutching calculator. I'd imagine the qualifying loss would be higher if you dutched though - but worth plugging the figures into the calculator though.

Miltonroad · 16/03/2019 19:52

Because if you bet say Man U Chelsea and spurs all to win = yes they will all win
You then need to bet against yes as your lay.

You could bet no if you dutched it as titchy said but you’d need to bet for no not against.

Otherwise you could lose both bets

DonkeyScramble · 17/03/2019 12:03

Has anyone one tried the 2 up offers yet? I have 3 on the go for today but it seems quite a rare event. I'm having no luck at all with extra places, lost £13 yesterday backing 5 horse in one race and none came in an extra place (WH was paying out to 7th and others to 5th)

Miltonroad · 17/03/2019 14:23

I do a lot of 2 ups - tend to leave them unless there’s a decent cash out at 2-0 and then only cash out a percentage, I take more if it goes 2-1 and cash out completely at a full turn around. Huddersfield and Swansea both came in yesterday for a mad amount of profit 😁

Miltonroad · 17/03/2019 16:27

And millwall had a full turn around in the fa cup 👍🏻

titchy · 17/03/2019 16:38

And I was on Brighton! Angry

Golden0ldie · 17/03/2019 18:04

Wail, wail and wail again. Sat down at 4.20 to put money on Chelsea with Paddy and Everton with Bet365. Got distracted and only got Paddy done before kick-off. Wouldnyou know, Everton have just gone 2-0 ... looked at the calc and if I had done it and cashed out now would have been +£39.

DonkeyScramble · 17/03/2019 19:41

With 2 up should you back both teams (at different bookies)? I only backed Chelsea.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/03/2019 19:53

I was wondering that too.

titchy · 17/03/2019 20:35

People often do one team at Bet365 and the other at Paddy as both have 2up offers. No other bookie does though so not worth doing at others.

thefavourite · 17/03/2019 20:38

I've not had a great day either @Golden0ldie. I've had loads of underlayed bets win at the Exchange (£0 loss but £0 gain) and made a couple of stupid mistakes when doing a complicated lay. I'm now berating myself for being greedy and a bit thick! I was trying to make another £10 today but made around £6/£7 due to my stupidity. The £10 target today was so I could make £500 profit this week! Yay, nearly there! I had a great Cheltenham and made about £420 over the 4 days (the other just under £80 is from Monday/Saturday/Sunday), not all from horses, some from CL offers and casino but mainly from Cheltenham. I smashed (doubled!) my £250 target!

A quieter week this week. I'm planning a few bet club free bets, some Bet365 free spins and some qualifying bets for next week's bet clubs and any offers that come in but that's it. I'm £300 ahead of my money making target so can take my foot off the gas for a week! I need to concentrate on my kids and my jobs and get some sleep and take my head out of my phone!

Golden0ldie · 17/03/2019 21:47

Wow, that’s amazing thefavourite, well done! As a matter of interest what Cheltenham offers did you do to make so much (taking notes for next year!). I had lost Betway, Coral and NetBet and didn’t realise until Friday that you could lock in profit on one of the other offers so missed that all week as it wasn’t on my priority list.

Re the 2ups, my plan today was to cover one team with each bookie. I’m still berating myself but too late now and was able to put actual figures in the calculator and see how it works.

Has anyone done the betfred casino offer for new casino deposits? Deposit and wager £10 and get 50 free spins. Think no wagering. Wonder whether it’s worth doing. Specified games, I think.

Quiet week here too ... Paddy and Sky betclubs and am looking for another to do too. Thinking of diving into Heart or Jackpot Joy this week.

DonkeyScramble · 17/03/2019 22:52

Gulp, just looked at smarkets and it says I've placed 357 bets this month totalling £24.3k!!!!!!

thefavourite · 17/03/2019 22:53

Here's my notes @Golden0ldie, hope they make sense! I definitely made the most from locking in Sky and Bethard, lots of free bets and a bit of luck x 2 with extra places on day 2 and day 4. Oh and Paddy Power offer on all 7 races - 2nd, 3rd & 4th was fab too.

PS please don't check my adding up, I haven't checked it before posting here!

I know I could have done more but did what I could around multiple children and 2 x jobs!

Golden0ldie · 17/03/2019 23:05

Even more amazing doing it around multiple children and two jobs! I’ve the multiple children but don’t work and only managed £219! Still, it has been a goid month to date. Thanks for sharing your notes. You did great on the Bethard offer ... I couldn’t get good matches at all there and was making less than £10 each day.

Donkey crikey! The figures are staggering!

bluemumsbluedog · 18/03/2019 10:04

I'm very interested in getting into matched betting to make up an income shortfall. The more I read and watch the more confused I'm getting. Any tips on best bookie and exchange to start with? I'm thinking I can put £50 in to start but I'm unsure if that's too much.
Any advice welcome

titchy · 18/03/2019 10:38

Bluemum - lots of people swear by Team Profit facebook page to start out. Personally I use Odds Monkey (profit accumulator simillar I believe) which is a subscription site, but they talk you through the first £50 profit.

But make sure you understand it before leaping in - i can't stress that enough. £50 to start with is the absolute minimum you need by the way - and progress will be slow with that little. But you will progress. I started with £500 as an indicator of a decent starting amount. made it back within 3 weeks.
