Missed miscarriage - advice needed please

I have just found out from a scan that I have a missed miscarriage (ie. no bleeding but fetus not growing and no heart beat). The doctor recommends I have surgery (ERCP) rather than wait for nature to take its course. Does anyone have any advice/experience of this? Please help -I am gutted and don't know what to do. Thanks

Thanks Lynne I feel fine. Counting the days til I finish work. Hope you get on ok at the hospital and feel better soon. I'm really hopeful for Edie and know you are too. Take care, Lx

d4phne · 27/10/2006 17:07

Hi Loucatwoman. So sorry to hear what you are going through. I had a blighted ovum and was offered ERPC, but then I had my doubts and wondered if it was better to wait and miscarry naturally. Ended up with ERPC.

I suggest you ask for another scan. They might offer you an ERPC once they can confirm the embryo is nonviable. Tell them honestly what you prefer/think.

It has been now 5 weeks since my ERPC and I am getting a positive pg test. I don't know if it is another pregnancy or leftover hormones. If I would have to do it again, I ask if they could monitor my hormones levels after m/c so that I would know when my body is back to normal.

We all know in what a difficult situation you are and send you all our strength.

d4phne · 27/10/2006 17:09

Edie - I hope I do not pull you down with the scepticism about my own situation. I would be terribly sorry. Indeed I feel very close to you since we are going through the same thing..... My love goes out to you!!!!

edie123 · 27/10/2006 22:39

Thanks Lucybee and thanks to D4phne, don't worry about being sceptical-I am too! Rather than hoping I am pg-Im just hoping to fing out either way now!!

Lynne-Did a job for RM yesterday and had another offer today. Thanks so much for putting me in touch with them, it has been really good fun so far. Good luck with tomorrow-lets hope it flies by for both of us

wayzee · 28/10/2006 18:32

thanks lynneclynne for your help.

d4phne i had a missed miscarriage when i went for my scan on 11 october the baby had died at seven weeks six days i took the tablet the same day and lost the baby naturally the next day at home the 12th. i did a pg test on wednesday for my own peace of mind and it was negative. dont want to get your hopes up too much as everyone is different but five weeks seems a long time if you still have the hormone in your system. good luck anyway and ill keep my fingers crossed for you.

Jossie · 28/10/2006 20:39

Hiya, back from hols-can't believe so much has happenned on this thread in 5 days.
Edie-Keeping everything crossed for you, best wishes.
Lynne-know what you meant about putting jobs on hold in case you were pg-been there, done it!! Hope you are feeling better now.
Time away was good, but totally exhausting as DS 1 wakes up early and in a very small caravan woke everyone up-earliest morning was 3.30!! The boys enjoyed a chance to run free though and I spent the evenings reading, with a clear conscience as couldn't get on with any jobs.
Hello to everyone new to this thread-sorry that we've all had to go through the same to be here.
I week to go until my last lot of blood tests, 2 weeks until consultant appt-can't wait, although a little nervous as well

lynneclynne · 28/10/2006 22:42

Hi jossie, good to hear your break went well,we all missed you and your advice

Im crossing everything too for edie, yes im quite glad im able to get everything finished around the house now that i know im not pg, plus got my xray done which had to put off whilst pg, even got the livingroom nearly finished and all the other jobs id been putting off, so i do feel relieved thats it all done. Is that you back to work on monday? Its brilliant having a break, not so brilliant having to return back to work
Well i'll catch up with you later!

Edie hope you and all the other girls are well, im glad you enjoyed the rm work, i have 1 on the mond and 2 the following week.I enjoy it too.

Away back to bed with the lemsip, catch up with you all tomorrow.

Lynne and Josie-look over on our thread ''EDIE AND LYNNE''

d4phne · 29/10/2006 12:34

Hi Wayzee. Thanks for the info and so sorry to hear about your loss. It's so recent, you must be going through the really hard time right now. I think it's very good that you took a test, so now you can move on and try again whenever you are ready. Good luck to you.

edie123 · 30/10/2006 07:45

D4PHNE,

Will let you know when AF arrives. Still no sign and all the cramps have gone!

d4phne · 30/10/2006 09:19

Hi Edie. Will think of you today and check in in the afternoon. I still have cramps in the evenings, faint +ve, no AF, intense fear of not being taking serious by doc. Do you have a preference where to post messages, here or over at TTC?

Lucybee · 30/10/2006 09:37

Edie, really good luck today, I'll be thinking of you. I'm still really positive for you, but know what you mean about wanting to know one way or the other!
Lynne, I finish in two weeks, but between now and then have a mountain of work to do to ensure project work is complete, for an easy hand over. Hope you are feeling better soon, dh has been ill all weekend and sadly for him I'm a rubbish Florence Nightingale. He's off today and I've had to stay off as childcare has called off too. So all I can do is sit and worry about everything I still have to do and think about Edies visit to the doc. Ds is obsessed with switching off the computer at the moment, the start light catches his eye everytime, and I have been cut off so many times its not true. Last scan showed the twins to be a little small and that combined with a Choroid Plexus Cyst showing up on one at the 20week scan, I have been a little worried that things are going ok. But the twins specialist doesn't seem to think theres anything to worry about so all I can do is trust him.I never had a clue that reproduction could be so stressful, how we learn. Have a good week, Lx

Just back from the GP-was in there 45 minutes! The students took a history from me and then my GP came in and they had to present my case to the GP. He then pointed out some things that they had forgotton to ask. He then had to ask them what the possibles might be, they said new pg, residual, ectopic, another mc etc. He examined me and we ruled out ectopic.

GP said that he had spoken to hospital who had examined products that were removed and ruled out other stuff (can't remember what) and they confirmed that they thought everything had been removed. They advised GP to do blood test.

However one of the students wanted to do it and it bloody hurt!! She was so sweet though and was so pleased with herself that she managed to get the blood bless her.

So now have to wait another couple of days to find out the HcG levels. Apparently should be between 1000-1500 or something for a new pg.

...Phew!!!...

d4phne · 30/10/2006 14:34

Just came back from GP. He doens't know what's going on either, but will run blood tests (due Tue in a week). He excluded accute etopic and doens't think it's leftover hormones. So in his view it's new pg or new m/c. I do not think I am pg. Still cramps. How are you doing, Edie?

Lucybee · 30/10/2006 16:22

Edie and D4phne, can't believe you guys have wait more time. At least they've ruled out ectopic. If its any consolation I didn't feel pregnant this time, and tested completely negative two days prior to period and there was two, so logically hormone levels should have been even higher. I'd also just stopped breast feeding and thats supposed to give raised hormone levels, but I had no residual. I am so hopeful for you both. I really hope this week you get the news you've been waiting for!

d4phne · 30/10/2006 17:39

Hi Lucybee. Sorry to hear that you are a little worried. Completely understandable. But I agree with you: trust the specialist -- he knows best. I am thinking of you. You saw the babies, yes?!
Once you had a +ve test, did the line become darker within a week? In my case definitely not. Just need a reality check now, since against better knowledge I am starting to get my hopes up.

lynneclynne · 30/10/2006 18:06

Hi ladies...gosh theres so much happening today!!Im so excited for you all Hope you are all well.
Im just the same, cant seem to shift this cold at all!! Its horrible, i feel terrible. Had so much to do today and yesterday, we had to move the livingroom furniture and pc all upstairs as the livingrooms getting plastered so its been hectic, then out shopping to B&Q for bits and bobs.
God i cant believe theres so much happening in here Im so,so excited
I need to go and make dinner now, so hopefully catch up with you all later on xxx

Edie, what did you mean about that thread????
Lynne xxx

Lucybee · 30/10/2006 18:09

D4phne, thanks for your message. With regard to the line getting darker, yes it did, but I had had a period where I could date it from. If you are not regular yet then you could be testing very early and getting faint hormone levels. After my miscarriages I had very clear negative results with no line whatsoever. I wish I could be more helpful, but I don't understand why you would be getting a faint line if there is nothing making the hormones. At the same time for self preservation it is probably best to try to not get too excited just in case, but I know thats really hard too. Fingers crossed and the very best of luck, Lx
