I think it might be a raise in HCG because I'm perimenopausal?

I know it won't be leading to anything, but I just wondered if I should see my GP?

I have had a few miscarriages in the past and I'd rather know what to expect I.e early miscarriage or nuts perimenopause symptoms Grin

I did both tests yesterday evening - they are the 6 days early type.

I could smell a weird smell on myself all day which made me think I should test.

I think I need HRT, I can't go through the next few months feeling pregnant.and smelling weird.

Yes it will be because you are peri

nobodysdaughternow · 05/10/2023 08:39

Can HRT get rid of that? I knew it could make me feel pregnant but not actually show up on a test.

Being a woman sucks sometimes.

It should help with symptoms, yes

nobodysdaughternow · 05/10/2023 08:44

I'll ask MN to move me to the Menopause board Grin

Is it possible you could be pregnant - ie have you had sex either protected or unprotected? do you have periods still? If so I would definitely NOT assume this is a perimenopausal symptom. X

This is the most important question.

urrrgh46 · 05/10/2023 09:47

If pregnancy is a possibility I would suggest waiting a few days to see if you get a stronger line. Having had a Google period and menopause can result in a naturally slightly higher hcg level, which might be detected on a very early and very sensitive pregnancy test. However, there won't be any rise and you'll get the same result each time.

urrrgh46 · 05/10/2023 09:47

Period is meant to be PERI!

Wishitsnows · 05/10/2023 09:49

Are you sure you aren’t pregnant?

AthenaPopodopolous · 05/10/2023 09:51

Congratulations!

SlipSlidinAway · 05/10/2023 09:51

My godmother got pregnant with her last child when she was 49 ...

SallyWD · 05/10/2023 10:24

I know someone who got pregnant naturally at 51. She wasn't trying, in fact she'd always been told she was infertile. It is possible. If you are pregnant it's likely to end in miscarriage sadly (although my friend is now 54 with a healthy 2 year old!).

Ilovegoldies · 05/10/2023 10:28

Are you having sex? I am on HRT, 51 having regular sex (with contraception) and a missed period terrified me. I took a pregnancy test and didn't have a positive. I'd not rule out pregnancy.

nobodysdaughternow · 05/10/2023 11:42

Thanks for the replies - we have had unprotected sex so I guess it could be.

I waited for 30mins this morning trying to get a GP appointment but I gave up in the end.

I am going to buy an early first response test because I kind of know what the line colour would look like on those and I can see if it progresses.

In Asda now. Will post again if it gets sorted either way.

Hope you get the outcome you want

MadeForThis · 05/10/2023 11:47

It's totally possible you could be pregnant.

Colinswheels · 05/10/2023 11:51

I started perimenopause early, whilst trying to conceive. My hormone levels gave me plenty of false positives for ovulation but never had a false positive for pregnancy...

MrsKwazi · 05/10/2023 11:52

You absolutely could be pregnant.

OctogenarianDecathlete · 05/10/2023 11:54

Just to note that you should not be having high HCG unless pregnant.

If not pregnant it can be indicative of a cancer.

OP, you must seek actual medical advice and not just put this down to menopause and ignore it.

This is incredible, she must be shattered.

Congratulations op

nobodysdaughternow · 05/10/2023 12:50

Ok, can't find pink tests so have bought four blue tests but not the early sort.

I will see if there is any line progression over the next few days.

Will also try and get a gp appointment.

Thanks again for the replies. I think this will just be a bit of a hormonal blip whatever the cause.

I would be very happy if it did turn into a baby but think that is such a remote chance so I'll focus on ruling menopause and or something worse out first.

I got pg late 40s twice op ......wouldn't be so fast to put it down to menopause!

Coveescapee · 05/10/2023 13:03

Yes I had my last baby at 49. All fine.
