New mums - Derby area

hello mums,

New to mumsnet, new mum - with a 4wk DD, wondering if there were some mums out there who wanted to meet, share horror stories, chat, or generally have a moan. I do try and get out each day, but conversation with a 4 wk old baby is quite limiting.

Hi DM, MR and new mums!

Been really busy recently so haven't been able to meet up. Still desperately looking for a new house, it's becoming quite depressing!

Would like to meet next time you arrange something.

Nice to bump into you the other day MR, hope you enjoyed your 5mins free time!

Love to kids x

madrose · 16/06/2006 21:37

freedom - it was great. Tomorrow is difficult as MIL back from holiday and wants to see maddydo.

DM where are you looking for houses?

DomsMummy · 17/06/2006 15:52

Ideally not to far from Hilton/Hatton as don't want to change Dom's nursery (now it's finally all sorted)

We've been looking around Tutbury/Rolleston. Had got our hearts set on one in Tutbury but vendors have since taken it off the market so back to square 1!

Dom's just broken out with about 50 chickenpox so any meet up's in the next week or so are out! He's been really cheerful though and not poorly at all, thankfully.

Has anyone got any advice on chickenpox? I've been giving him piroton (sp!) and calomine lotion which are working but he's got a couple on his lips which look sore. Not sure if bonjela is ok for chickenpox, also they probably won't dry up very quickly as he still dribbles a lot!

Hope all mums and babies are ok.

Hope to meet up soon Smile

madrose · 17/06/2006 20:40

oh pooy news re house and dom. Heard oat bath is suppose to help.

Wrap some oats (quite a few) in a muslin/bag - either tie it to the tap or hold and let the water go through it - it is suppose to help calm the skin.

Poor baby - and its so warm. Did he pick it up from nursery?

Mads had the MMR yesterday - I was such a wimp, so worried about the side effects - but she is as nutty as usual.

Hi all. Poor Dom. Well I'm getting ready for my holiday - we are off to Lake Garda in Italy for 2 weeks (brag brag). Flying out on Sat so busy washing, ironing and packing.

Hopefully we can get together when I get back. It's Holly birthday on 13th July (not having a party as too mean) but would be nice to go to Markeaton for a picnic or something. I'll arrange something when I get back and hopefully agree a day we can all make. See you all soon.

DomsMummy · 22/06/2006 13:51

Thanks for the advice re oats. Didn't have any in the cupboard so tried readybrek and it all went wrong and very gooey!

Put some bi-carbonate of soda in his bath though which seemed to help. They're nearly all scabbed over which is good. He picked it up from nursery but am pleased to get it over with while he's young!

Am v. jealous about Lake Garda DM! Hope you have a fab time! Picnic at Markeaton sounds great, will be nice to see the Birthday Girl! Can't believe she's nearly two, it's flown by!

Hope Maddy is ok after her MMR, I think they can be poorly a couple of weeks after but hopefully she'll be ok.

See you soon, love to babies x

madrose · 22/06/2006 22:52

sorry - I did giggle when I read about the ready brek

sorry again.

glad it has cleared up. Mads has been out of sorts since MMR, but think that is related to teething - as she is cutting at least two/three.

not going to say anything about a certain lady going to italy apart from have a great time. and the 13th july souds fanastic. my goodness 2 already.

catch you later

Hi all

No disrespect to derbymom, madrose or domsmuumy but are there any other mums out there from Derby who can be respectful enough to chat to me.

I am from Derby 32 years of age and have a 6month old son, it would be fantastic to meet up with people or at least try and communicate by email. Please email me should you be interested.

Are there only 3 mums from Derby who chat to each other?? Please come forward if there are anymore.

[email protected]

madrose · 26/06/2006 21:06

hy Sara,
If you scroll down, we have tried to include you in this post thing, DM said hi, and introduced herself and her daughter, I did the same - not as eloquent, but tried introducing my DD and the other DM said Hi newcomers. So we haven't been disrespectful (sorry but that's the way I've read it), but you didn't post back. Maybe we could have asked more questions, but you know how it is a million and one things to do and you jump on the computer for 5 minutes so you tend to keep things brief, before you go and start the next million and one things to do. But we were expecting a post back (pathetic excuse , but there you go)

I know you've included your email, but too be honest I meant to email you, but time just flew past, and we tend to use this thread as a quick catch up as its easy to use, check and for everyone to see, it enables us to have an open chat, to arrange things and to be on view for other Derby mums. We're not a clique or anything like that, we are nice people who love to chat to other mums - anything for a gossip .

So I apologise if I have been 'unrespectful' it wasn't intended, also I tend to be cautious in giving emails out on mn as 'you never know who's reading it'.

But it's nice to hear from you again and I will will take a copy of this and email to you, but to be honest I probably check MN more than my email, as I get too many work related ones.

So please do join this thread, it would be lovely to share in the news of your little one growing. This also applies to Mand from ripley.

I really do believe in that saying - the more the merrier - unless you're drinking my beer .

Anyway - domsmommy how's the spots?

maggieflo · 27/06/2006 11:00

Hi
I am a Derby mum. Working part time with 3 children. The youngest is just one. I would be interested in chatting and perhaps meeting up!

DomsMummy · 29/06/2006 13:51

Hi all!

Spots are much better, nearly all cleared up!! Hope Mads is still ok after dreaded MMR!

Sara31, just to clarify, I have pretty much ignoring everyone recently as I've had a lot on (no much more than other mums with youngsters I'm sure - but I am not the typical multi-tasking female!)so no disrespect intended!

We would always welcome new people to meet-ups. It's always nice to make new friends, share horror stories, moan and gossip and for the kids to get together of course!

I agree with MR though, I don't tend to ever check my emails (they're normally from Boots, Tesco or Toy'r'us - what a sad life I lead!!) so find it easier to log onto MN whenever I get chance.

Perhaps we could all get together on Sat 15th July once DM is back of her hols? Would be nice to meet you and your little ones Sara and Maggieflo.

Picnic at Markeaton sounds nice, or any other suggestions?? Anywhere where food is involved will suit me! xx

madrose · 30/06/2006 21:32

Hey up - glad spots are nearly gone. Mads ok re MMR but suffering with her teeth - she's definity a slow teether - we now have 5 and two are making an appearance.

The 15th sounds good to me, had an email chat with Sara and cleared up misunderstandings so all sorted - Hi sara if you get to read this.

Can't believe Holly's going to be 2. It'll be Dom next - how scary is that?

Maggie - hello, how old are your little ones?

OP posts:
DomsMummy · 03/07/2006 13:26

I know it's scary how quickly they're all growing up. When I was walking down the stairs with Dom we were counting the steps and I stopped at 3 (as I thought he could only count to 3) but he carried on all the way to 10! I couldn't believe it! They must have been doing a lot of counting at nursery. I felt so awful though as I didn't know he could count until then!

Poor mads with her teething, I suppose at least she can't bite you as severely with 5 teeth!

Hope you and your little ones are well Sara & Maggie.

Look forward to seeing everyone on 15th!

madrose · 03/07/2006 21:21

ok - you've got me worried now - we can only say 'dat' (lots and lots and lots of time ).

What a clever boy - future accountant in hand.

How is everyone's little ones coping with the heat. Mads - not good tonight (Monday) she has a fan but - not happy. Came home from nursery with heat rash - it was so hot up there.

Tried a paddling pool at the weekend. Put an inch of water in (cold) - pop mads in - she did not like it one bit. tried it again today and put warm water in - she had a better opinion of it today - in fact I got soaked

right going to try and cool down

calebsmum · 05/07/2006 21:20

Hi, long time since I posted or saw anyone! Glad your all ok, Caleb is just getting over hand, foot and mouth disease which is nowhere near as bad as it sounds! Hope to see you all soon

fliss

madrose · 05/07/2006 21:26

hello hello - how are you CM? Hand foot & mouth - my friends DD had that it looked horrid, the poor baby had blisters all around her little mouth. Is he all better now? bet Caleb is absolutely massive now. We're fine, mads has a new face that she pulls - she purses her lips and goes ooooooooo (no idea why, looks very strange). glad its cooler tonight and trying to decide whether to have cornflakes or alpen for tea - such the high life i lead

OP posts:
calebsmum · 05/07/2006 21:32

Hi nice to hear from you! Caleb had blisters in his mouth, soles of his feet, palms and all over his bum! Poor thing, but to be honest other than being grumpy he was fine

He's about the size of a 2 year old now! Don't know what we've done to create a baby giant, he likes screwing up his face and snorting or going 'grrrr'

derbymom · 10/07/2006 13:25

Hi all..yes I'm back after a lovely relaxing holiday in the sun. It was really nice to have some quality family time away from work and housework. sounds like babies/toddlers are keeping mums busy with one illness or another.

So my little baby will be 2 on Thursday. Am feeling very emotional as my little girl is growing up. Weather permitting a picnic at markeaton this sat would be lovely. Please confirm that you can make it.... shall we say about 12. The more the merrier so all welcome. Does everyone have transport???

anyway when numbers are comfirmed we can discuss food options. I'll try to e-mail everyone in the next day or so if I can work out how to CAT. Techmology is not a strong point. Hope to see you all then. H can come along on her new Noddy trike - it's so cool.

dressedupnowheretogo · 10/07/2006 13:30

DomsMummy · 11/07/2006 13:39

Hi all! Hope all mums & little ones are well!

Lovely to hear from you Calebsmum, hope you're ok and Caleb's better now.

Hope you had a fab holiday DM! Bet it was nice to spend some proper family time together.

12pm at Markeaton sounds great, weather's supposed to be nice. Is it ok if Paul comes along? He's been missing out on quite a lot of quality time with Dom recently, with football etc! If everyone wants mums only though it's ok, I'll leave him at home to sulk!

Just noticed your post Boobylicious! How exciting! Hope everything goes ok, would love for you to come to meet-up with us once you're all settled down with your lil' baby! Might make us all broody though!

Look forward to seeing everyone on Sat x

PS - Happy Birthday to Holly for Thursday!

DomsMummy · 11/07/2006 13:39

Sorry to sound a bit thick but what's CAT???!!

madrose · 11/07/2006 20:46

Cat is sending emails Count us in, BUT have hospital appointment in morning (yes I know it is Sat don't ask) BUT (lots of buts today) it's at 11, so hopefully will be able to get to park 12ish or just after. If ok have another mummy and LO who might be able to come, you met her at Maddys b'day.

Holiday sounds fab - so jealous want lots of details.

Where shall we meet in the parK? Boobylicious - why not come along - could practice with ours. Are you excited - don't worry about making me broody already am [am]

OP posts:
derbymom · 12/07/2006 13:12

Tried to CAT but wants me to pay. Glad you can come - friends more than welcome. If we meet in the park at least then we can keep kiddies occupied.

derbymom · 14/07/2006 12:27

Been thinking about tomorrow - do you think it's easier of we all bring our own picnic food. Trying to organise who brings what at short notice might be too much.

madrose · 14/07/2006 21:30

yes - it saves any on hassle. where to meet? by the paddling pool, by the swings, on the grass before the bridge, tennis courts, by cafe?

See you tomorrow
