New mums - Derby area

hello mums,

New to mumsnet, new mum - with a 4wk DD, wondering if there were some mums out there who wanted to meet, share horror stories, chat, or generally have a moan. I do try and get out each day, but conversation with a 4 wk old baby is quite limiting.

Sorry meant to say can only do Tues/Thurs meet ups - had a glass of wine!

madrose · 07/07/2005 22:29

All these holidays - all right for some . Sounds like you had fun.

Sats ams sounds good, but this week a nightmare as we're having Mads christened on Sunday and relative coming out of woodwork on Saturday, in fact if you're free on Sunday, Shalaa, Derbymon and domsmummy you are all welcome, we having the 'do' at Derby rugby club haslams lane (Shalaa we're having nightmares re greyhound ) about 4pm, lots of babies will be there - if you fancy the church - at Saint Mary's Bridgegate at 3pm.

Seriously you are all welcome, but I know its short notice etc, but an opportnuity to meet up, if not lets sort a date for a Sat morning (good grief I sound like a stalker )

Shalaa - if I don't see you - GOOD luck for the interview - I don't think you'll need it

Have fun at work DOmsmummy and Derbymum. If it helps I'm back a week MOnday - oohh my heart stopped for a minute there

Take care all - and hope to catch up soon.

Hi madrose would love to go to the 'do' tomorrow if you're sure we won't be gatecrashing! Pauls mum is down tomorrow so won't be able to make it to the church but will see you at the rugby club later.

Thanks for the invite and look forward to seeing you tomorrow, hope the christening goes well!

shalaa · 09/07/2005 11:43

Hi! Should be able to make Sunday, sorry to hear your having problems. See you tomorrow!

DomsMummy · 14/07/2005 09:48

Good luck with interview tomorrow Shalaa, let us know how it hows!

DomsMummy · 14/07/2005 09:49

Sorry meant how it goes - dizzy moment!

derbymom · 14/07/2005 20:16

Hi gosh just catching up with all your posts as I don't have the time to look anymore. All sounds good. How did the christening go Madrose? And the interview Shalaa? What job are you going for?

Well Holly was 1 yesterday - my little girl is growing up (i'm not broody, i'm not broody.....) Work is still OK but Holly is not settling into nursery too well so are thinking of changing. Suggestions welcome in Burton or Littleover. Also she has developed hayfever and is suffering really badly. Had to get my sister to look after her last week as she got sent home from nursery.

So is anybody free any weekend - finding a day we can all do is becoming increasingly more difficult now we are all so busy.

BeckyK · 14/07/2005 22:14

Hi Derbymom
I have just moved to the area and there is a really nice nursery in Repton - called Woodend. DS (16 monts) has been going to a nursery in Stapenhill since we moved but same story not really settling in so we are moving him. Repton seems very nice though and has a lovely garden with goats and chickens....

DomsMummy · 15/07/2005 10:20

Hi derbymom, can't believe Holly is 1! It goes so quickly doesn't it! Did you have a party and if so where? I'm really struggling to find places that aren't for older kids as Dom is 1 in a couple of months.

Sorry to hear that she's not settling in to nursery too well. BeckyK is right, Woodend at Repton is lovely - nearly put Dom in there but it's a bit out of the way. My friends little girl goes to The Cottage on Bedford Street which I think is near Littleover and sounds pretty good.

Dominic's at The Carlton at Hilton which is on the way to Burton but don't know how near it is to your work. He seems to really enjoy it and the staff are nice, it's hard though I think we looked at about 10 before we finally decided on there! There's always the Leapfrog but thought they seemed a little too commercialized.

I'm free a week on Saturday if anyone fancies a morning coffee? Would be great if you could come too BeckyK?

derbymom · 16/07/2005 21:47

Hi thanks for the suggestions. She currently goes to Leapfrog and although there are some really nice members of staff there, I think she would be better suited to a smaller nursery where there are a few babies in the room rather than a dozen. I also think she would get more individual attention at a smaller nursery. I also want to find one with a separate sleep area as she is finding it difficult to sleep at nursery and that is having a knock on effect.

We were planning to go to Smilee Faces in Burton for her birthday but because of her hayfever we didn't get to go so just played at home in her new sandpit. I did get told that it is very good and suitable for smaller babies aswell as it has ball pools and soft play areas. Have a look at their website. I agree it is difficult finding something for babies that can't yet walk to do.

Sat 23rd sounds good. What time suits everybody? I'm easy as long as it's not too early!!!

shalaa · 16/07/2005 22:01

Yay I got the job!! They offered it to me after the interview and I said yes. It means i'm working a 10 minute walk from my house, 6pm-11pm about 3 nights a week. It's cleaning but I don't mind as it was the hours I was after. Hopefully start in 4-6 weeks.

23rd Sounds good what about 10am?? Just thinking it would be less busy around that time.

How did the Christening go?? So so sorry I couldn't make it, feel really guilty, hope it went well and you had a lovely day.

Good luck with the nursery search, know of a few childminders if you want any details??

DomsMummy · 17/07/2005 14:19

Well done you! Dead chuffed for you, 10 mins from home sounds great too!

10am is fine, got my driving test on Tuesday so hopefully will be able to drive there on Sat!

shalaa · 24/07/2005 21:15

Oh crap, knew i'd forgotten something. Complete missed Saturday due to having no memory cells. Did you lot meet up? How was it?? Are we planning another one??

DomsMummy · 28/07/2005 13:43

Don't worry Shalaa I didn't make it either, well I nearly made it... had a bump in Bold Lane carpark, panicked and went home! Luckily it didn't do any damage to the other car but mines got a scratch, only had it a week!

New job going really well, Dom still enjoying nursery too.

Hope we can all meet up soon!

shalaa · 01/08/2005 17:55

Hi Domsmummy, glad it was only a little bump! Nice that Doms enjoying nursery, am going to send Caleb when he's a bit older. He's turning into a mummys boy and is getting quite clingy with me. Can't say i'm doing anything to stop it though! Would be nice to meet up as i don't really see anyone else with babies.

DomsMummy · 02/08/2005 12:56

Hi Shalaa, I could do a week on Sat if you're free? Will try and find somewhere different to park though!

I know what you mean about boys being clingy to their mums! Dom was like it for ages, now he loves all women though and is a right flirt!

Have you started your new job?

DomsMummy · 02/08/2005 13:03

Forgot to say that it's Dominic's 1st B'day on 22nd Sept so we're going to have a party on either Sat 17th or 24th September. Not decided where yet but am going to sort it all out this weekend so will let you know, it will more than likely be at our local Village Hall.

Would be nice if you could all come - will let you know more next week!

madrose · 09/08/2005 22:50

hya - really really sorry not been in touch, a lot of pathetic excuses - but things have been manic, and have been away visiting family lots.

CONGRATUALATIONS Shalaa - i'm so pleased for you, when do you start? And how is that gorgous boy of yours?

Domsmummy it was lovely to meet Paul and to see you and Dom, I have a thankyou card so must meet not only to catch up, but to give you the card. Up for a B'day party anytime!!!!! sorry to hear about bump in car park, I would have started crying - mind you I cry over everything at the mo, bloody hormones!!

Derbymom - Hope work is going well and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Holly. Bet you can't believe where the time went. Mads has changed so much in the last few weeks, she is definity becoming cheeky, but she can now sit up, ok falls over alot, but can manage a few minutes.

Beckyk - Hello/

So who fancies a coffee? We away again this weekend - back on Weds, so anyone around the 20th?

Must swap mob numbers - so that I can stalk you all much more effectively

loves and kisses to the babies

shalaa · 10/08/2005 17:04

Hello Madrose! wondered where you were. agree we must all swap mobile no's. so then what about the 20th 11am at Debs?? can't wait to see how our babies have changed!

madrose · 10/08/2005 19:36

Debs it is on the 20th, just a short note as |Mads is shouting for some attention.

OP posts:
derbymom · 10/08/2005 20:49

Hi wondered why I sat in Debs on my own for half an hour. Not to worry-you're ok though Domsmummy so thats the main thing. we should swap mob numbers so that at least we can ring if we're late (as I invariably am)or something happens etc.

Well I'm so busy I don't know where the time goes. Work is going well although working longer hours than expected. Have booked a week off in Sept to have some mother and daughter time like old times. Birthday party sounds good-let us know the details.

So sat 20th it is in. Hopefully we will all get there in one piece

madrose · 10/08/2005 23:57

I'm a very proud mummy, mads had her first solid poo today!

OP posts:
DomsMummy · 15/08/2005 09:57

Yippee - well done Mads! They smell a lot worse than the mushy ones though don't they!

Hope all babies are ok! Doms going through a really clingy stage at the mo, hope it's just a phase as it's driving me up the wall!

Will email your invites to the party through as soon as I've sorted it all! Trying to see if we can fit a bouncing castle in to the Village Hall so going there with my measuring tape tonight!!

See you all soon x

shalaa · 17/08/2005 19:10

So sorry that you were left waiting Derbymom hope it wasn't a wasted trip??

Caleb is also doing solid poos now! They smell and it's a real effort for him to go! He's trying very hard to crawl, am starting to baby proof the house.

shalaa · 19/08/2005 20:23

Horrid day today, was trying to calm Caleb as he was crying in his pushchair, picked him out for a cuddle and some b**d stole my purse!! Didn't find out till I'd brought loads of shopping at Sainsburys and got to the till.

Need to re-order cards and still a little upset so don't think i'll be there tomorrow. If not hope you all have a good time and i'll try and drop in.
