Any meet-ups in the Ealing Area?

Hi there, just had ds, now 7 weeks old. My dd will be 3 in December. Been living in the area for a few years now, but since not working in the City anymore after having dd finding it really hard to meet up with friends (with or without kids) as they all seem to live on the other side of town and it takes ages to get there... quite a challenge with 2 little ones I found (still getting used to having 2 around!)

So looking for new contacts/friends in the area. Been to a few toddler groups before ds came along, but somehow most mothers already seem to be very cliquety and it's hard to 'break in'. Even if I get to chat to someone at e.g. the playground it never evolves, even though I try to be very approachable...

So if you're in the Ealing Area and want to meet up for a chat, tea, coffee or the like ...

P.S. Also I'm German so bringing little ones up bi-lingually if anyone wants to 'expose' their kids to some foreign tones

xmas thing should definitely be held in EB, easy for all to get to. I am fine most evenings except wednesdays and fridays as hubby is out.

Mrsbigd, happy to come for another visit. Hope next week's meet goes well.

slink - any luck on the craft place? will ask around.

Might try play cafe week after next, anyone interested?

I should be fine for next wednesday, my son has been ill, a bad cough which makes him throw up, but we haven't had any vomit incidents since thursday now and hes eating again so should be fine for wed, about 11.30ish? Hes 17 months by the way and still puts most things in his mouth!

MrsBigD · 27/11/2004 20:13

Wednesday was planned as an afternoon meet, but as I've got nothing in particular planned for the day you're welcomed to come at 11:30. No need to worry about vomit... my 3 month old is a brilliant vomit comet so I'm used to mopping up . As for putting everything in his mouth... could you bring his favourite chew toy? I really don't mind what he chews on at my place {smile} but we had a bit of an incident at the last meet in that dd was getting VERY protective of her stuff when it got chewed on... even though she does her own fair bit of chewing at nearly 3 yo. She's a bit weird that way but I was told it's a territorial thing

oh nearly forgot

drove along Chiswick Highstreet today on the way to Sainsburys and spotted a Crafts Cafe just before the turnoff. Looked very busy so am assuming it's good. Anybody been there?

Also dd had a great time at Mothercare in Kew/Richmond Retail park. I hadn't realised there was a sofa corner with play area at the back! The food at the cafe is very unimaginative though...

LOL, yes that was my dd's fault, she started chewing on Mrsbigd's dd's balloon. We have balloons and balloon animals at home and of course she doesn't chew them - they are so naughty sometimes!

Mrsbigd, I think slink has been there. if they do food might be worth a visit!

jane313 · 27/11/2004 20:24

Oh afternoon is better for me its just I thought you wrote 11/12 ish! But looking back you wrote 1/12 and I misread. 12.30-1 would be great for me, but I can fit in with whenever is convenient!

I shall bring some of his faves, although he just likes putting everything new in his mouth (except fruit). He got very terrotorial recently at a friends house but when she and her son came to me it was fine! Very odd.

MrsBigD · 27/11/2004 20:26

jane - 12:30 is fine and I guess kids are just odd

Also saw a pottery place opposite West Ealing Station I'm getting good as spotting 'these things'

The West Ealing one does special baby sessions I think for hand and foot prints. Did you not spot the one in Kew too on the way to the retail park.

yingers74 · 27/11/2004 20:32

mrsbigd and jane, have fun on wed.

MrsBigD · 27/11/2004 20:49

thanks yinger

yes did see the one on the way to kew... it's on a corner... and parking isn't that great I think, especially at the weekend but might give it a go sometime. Problem is dd is a clean fanatic and doesn't like her hands getting dirty...

Can't make this Weds - got to take my 2 to clinic for MMR and MMR booster. Not sure I should have booked them both for the same time!?

There is a pottery painting place in Whitton High St - from the outside it looks like a DIY shop but has cafe and painting at back.

BTW I quite often go to Kew Retail Park - Mothercare for afternoon coffee.

yingers74 · 27/11/2004 20:55

I Think there is a craft place in hammersmith high street too!

MrsBigD · 27/11/2004 21:25

janeyboobs... who knows we might have seen each other

with all these arts place we keep spotting our kids are going to be lots of little van gogh's!

Another question to all - has anyone taken their child to aquarium in central london? is 21 months too young?

Slink · 29/11/2004 14:52

Yingers i have put in my diary that i have a date with you NEXT tuesday at the kids cafe what time about 10.30ish???

As for aquariumn (sp) i think your dd would love it, mine did she loves fish, when she was a babe my dad has a big tank and he used to let her walk in it she loved the fish tickling her toes.................. i am a good mum please don't contact nspcc it was all safe tank on the ground and all arhhh

MrsBigD · 29/11/2004 17:00

not too bad today but dd has a bad cough again and I'm fighting too.

Tuesdays I'd only be with ds and he's a bit too young to appreciate play cafes.

Have to say that I didn't enjoy London Aquarium. was a bit dark and dd who usually loves fish wasn't all that keen either. No colours... The only thing that did spark her interest was the sea pool at the end of the exhibit.
