Any meet-ups in the Ealing Area?

Hi there, just had ds, now 7 weeks old. My dd will be 3 in December. Been living in the area for a few years now, but since not working in the City anymore after having dd finding it really hard to meet up with friends (with or without kids) as they all seem to live on the other side of town and it takes ages to get there... quite a challenge with 2 little ones I found (still getting used to having 2 around!)

So looking for new contacts/friends in the area. Been to a few toddler groups before ds came along, but somehow most mothers already seem to be very cliquety and it's hard to 'break in'. Even if I get to chat to someone at e.g. the playground it never evolves, even though I try to be very approachable...

So if you're in the Ealing Area and want to meet up for a chat, tea, coffee or the like ...

P.S. Also I'm German so bringing little ones up bi-lingually if anyone wants to 'expose' their kids to some foreign tones

kelli22 - don't know much about childminders but your first port of call should probably be the list of registered cm at your council and then best to have a chat and visit shortlisted ones! Good luck

janeybops · 12/11/2004 21:12

kelli22 I use a childminder when at working. What do you want to know?

MrsBigD · 12/11/2004 21:43

kelli22 - dd is at cm and loving it. I had her there 5 days a week before I had ds 10 weeks ago. Now reduced it to 2 days a week. CM's got dd 2.11, a 5 yo and a 6yo.

As far as I know her schedule involves taking the kids to school and picking them up and keeping them otherwise entertained. She makes sure the 5yo and 6yo do their homework and takes them to the park weather permitting. She takes my dd everywhere she goes, e.g. shopping, post office, when visiting friends (I don't mind).
So basically I guess childminding involves what you would do with your own kids.

Hope this is of any help

I'm afraid I can't make next Tuesday now.

MrsBigD. Yes it would be lovely to meet up. Afternoons are better for me in general as my son sleeps for 2 hours in the morning and its my only break! However I don't stick to this rigidly otherwise we wouldn't have any nice days out or a life!

MrsBigD · 13/11/2004 09:27

jane 313
what's a life????
your ds sleeps?!

We can always do an afternoon meet same week Wednesday or the week after on either Mon/Wed/Fri.

God me trying to organise all these meets... does that sound like I'm starved for adult company/conversation/interaction??? Ah well might as well admit it... YES! LOL

OP posts:
jane313 · 13/11/2004 09:40

I can do Wed 1st or Friday 3rd. I would email you but am at work. aah I think I have it on my other email address.

His sleeps are getting shorter though. I hope he isn't going to be like most of my friends children that gave up day sleeping at 18 months.

I know what you mean about adult company. I didn't really meet many people I had much in common with when he was a baby and now I can only have snatched conversations with people as I spend most of my time stopping him from escaping or putting crap in his mouth.

MrsBigD · 13/11/2004 09:56

so next meet at MrsBigD on Wed 1/12 p.m.

better brush up on how to be a perfect host

snatched conversations = dd shouting 'wanna say hello' whenever I'm on the phone!

MrsBigD · 13/11/2004 10:02

yingers74 · 13/11/2004 15:13

mrsbigd, you are going to be one busy lady week after next!

adults talk to each other and they interact??? Is there a world where adults hang around with no children? surely not

MrsBigD · 13/11/2004 19:01

yes I'm sure adults interact... at leasr I seem to vaguely recall it...

So for much needed social interaction I shall have tea & coffee, biscuitsand, or carrot sticks for those who are in a 'biscuit free zone, at the ready on:

Monday 22/11 a.m.andWednesday 1/12 p.m.

Should be fun!

Hello girls, sorry I could not make the meet.........would love to go to syon park though....Heres my rant, I moved to surrey on the 1st of September, had been here for 2 weeks and my car started to play up..... I have been to the Lance Owen vauxhall dealers for the past 8 weeks!!!! my car is not road worthy... it went in for a service, and mot.... I have since had a full clutch , slave cylinder, head gassette and new acelerater cable done, and its still breaking down on me.... I have had enough, I asked them to part exchange my car....... WAIT FOR IT.... they offered me £450.00........... I still have to pay off the £2000.00 on the credit card... for all the previous repairs...... thats why I couldn't do the meet.... now I am suicidle.....thank you for reading.... so wheres my fairy godmother??? I need a good cry.

MrsBigD · 14/11/2004 09:49

poor you! Sounds like the garage was messing you about a bit? Car trouble are a major pain. My old car 'lost' it's differential (at least according to garage, I haven't got a clud about cars...) just before xmas last year... repairs would have been more than I originally paid for it!

I'm sure there will be other meets at Syon Park

I'm also organising a couple of 'home' meets at my place, see yesterday's posting on this thread and you're most welcome to join us for a good chinwag
