A few degenerates seem to have the idea that some of us would for some reason once again want to get together for some drink and inane chatter somewhere in London sometime around Christmas.....

So with that in mind the date of 29 November is being paddled around.

Grin and Wine and much fun to be had!

EVERYONE welcome.

Bewitched, I have no idea, or can't remember if you said where you live. But, presumably, East Grinstead isn't very near? Did you fall asleep on the train? Grin

I totally agree that Solasum was particularly elegant; she was the second to arrive (after me); there I was, vaguely perspiring in the heat and she walked in looking as cool as a cucumber and fabulous Envy

SBG, I owe you an apology for labouring a point about something we both have in common, but have different views on. I'm sorry, I should have kept my gob shut Blush

limited, I too, carried on drinking when I got home. Not the best of ideas, given that I knew we'd have to be up early today to go out with DP's DS and his (DS's) DC (nearly 4yo). I had forgotten that even the mildest of hangovers and energetic small children is a quite, erm, challenging combination. I'm now knackered, but guess I'll be out for the count tonight!

I've just remembered a comment I received, when I was in the loos, with one of the women from the other upstairs party. She said something like "oh, I thought there'd be a massive queue in here - there are so many of you". I couldn't work out whether she thought we were all a bunch of complete pissheads, or whether she thought we'd all be going for a pee in unison Confused Grin

East Grinstead is at least in the same county as BBB lives in!!

I have just had a very nice afternoon nap & feel much more myself now!

I was good at lunch & stuck to beer but succumbed to gin in the Elusive Camel, which was my downfall.

limitedperiodonly · 30/11/2014 16:45

I had some work to do that I was putting off until today.

I haven't done it.

I'm going to have to set the alarm for 6am so I can email it for about 10am-ish.

plumstone · 30/11/2014 17:31

Hello, had a semi productive day, got up and went to work, then had pedicure which was badly needed, then had a wee power nap, with the intention of housework, and laundry, however have woken up worth raging temperature, and ear ache, Wtf, I haven't had earache since I was about six!

I am all headachy and distinctly un-plum like, want a hot water bottle and the fairies to come and look after me, I may need my ear amputated to or may be a brain tumour! (Must look up symptoms) I am also a bit of a hypochondriac, but as I have no appetite, and do not feel like my usual Sunday night dinner (ravioli and pesto, with gin and tonic) I am definately not on all cylinders and more prune-like than plum! Pls tell me what I do for ear-ach - I have refrained from sticking a cotton bud in my ear, apparently that is not cool!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2014 17:48

Oh no :( you poor thing.
Ibuprofen, decongestant, warm compress and whiskey.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/11/2014 17:57

Fru I think I must have fallen asleep on the train, but I can't have been asleep when I got on it!
I live in Brighton, so completely wrong and stopping everywhere.

It was lovelyHearts, good choice of venue.

I'm really sorry I cleared off without saying goodbye, very rude of me Blush

plumstone · 30/11/2014 17:58

Kitten, thanks is ibuprofen, like neurofen? Have a packet knocking around!

And, this a really daft question, sorry, but where do/ what do I do with a compress? Is it like a poultice? still not sure what it is though, but based on the rest of her personality! it will not have involved cuddling in on the sofa watching Bagpuss!
Ah yes whiskey- that great Scottish cure all!

Thanks

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2014 18:11

It is :) it relieves swelling as well as pain so if your ear is inflamed it might relieve it. The decongestant is incase it's a blocked eustacian tube. The compress is just something warm to press against your ear. If you've not got a hot water bottle then you could heat a tea towel on your radiator.

I think a wee dram is the best cure though Grin

limitedperiodonly · 30/11/2014 19:13

My mum used to recommend the folk remedy of a bread poultice for all sorts of inflammatory ills.

She was from London.

The funniest thing was of her pouring boiling water onto Mother's Pride and then mashing it onto her finger to extract a splinter.

About 10 seconds later she howled and tried to scrape it off the rapidly expanding blisters.

Obviously it's not really that funny to see your beloved mother hopping around in such pain.

I have paracetamol, codeine, ibuprofen and diclofenac. You can take them in order and they are really effective painkillers. I asked on MN a while ago for the safe combination but I can't find it in Advanced Search. It was probably in Chat.

It's definitely worth asking. About three nurses or pharmacists came back to me immediately and eased my pain.

magimedi · 30/11/2014 19:49

I have just had a couple of glasses of Wine

Am ashamed to say how much better I feel Blush

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2014 19:59

As long as it's either diclofenac or ibuprofen then you can combine it with paracetamol and codeine quite happily.

That's the spirit Magi! Dhs homemade wine will be coming out soon.

Solasum · 30/11/2014 20:44

A bread poultice is basically bread sauce, yes? Mmm. A seasonal healer.

Mamushka very glad your little one was ok (and what a great name he has!) And am Envy x 100 that he slept through the night. Mine has still not done so.

magimedi · 30/11/2014 22:10

I promise this is my last post about the meet up! (Well, probably)

I've been thinking about it today & I can truly say that I've never met so many wonderful women.

I just wish I could have the meet up again - times 20 (or all the number of us that were there) because I really would have liked to have spent those hours in one-to-one chat with each & every one of you. And it still would have been too short a time.

Viva Mumsnet & all the wonderful women who belong to it!!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 30/11/2014 22:34

Hear hear magimedi very well said.

Do organise another one in the New Year!

plumstone · 01/12/2014 15:04

I am up for one in the New Year - any time after 1st Feb, i will be ear ache free, and be vaping like a pro (thanks magi)

magimedi · 01/12/2014 15:17

You know that we are known as a 'nest of vapers', don't you?

Am eet up in Feb sounds good - lovely to have something to look forward to.

MyGhostIsFlummoxed · 01/12/2014 15:52

I know I've not right to beg but please not the first weekend in Feb as it's DS1's birthday & our wedding anniversary & DH might not look kindly on me disappearing to get drunk with a bunch of harpies!

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 01/12/2014 18:39

Is that a "nest of naice vapers" magi?

Oooh, would you make sure I get on the right train home MyGhost?

Or we could get lost together Grin

MyGhostIsFlummoxed · 01/12/2014 18:56

I'd do my best BBB, but can't be the responsible adult Grin

magimedi · 01/12/2014 19:31

Yes, we are vair, vair 'naice!!

I don't think there was a single 'responsible adult' present on Saturday!

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 01/12/2014 19:38

Grin neither can I apparently Sad

Maybe we could each be a half responsible adult, making a whole one between us?
