May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Final weigh-in and ongoing chat

Morning all Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet for its final outing although that said, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added extra columns for anyone who wants to keep using it

I hope that all has gone well - and I notice that we have at least 2 Bootcampers who have reached/exceeded the 1 stone mark, which is fantastic!

Just because we've reached the end of the 8 weeks doesn't mean that you have to stop - or stop chatting. We'll keep this thread going for as long as people want to use it, and I'll start a new one once this one gets full.

Hello lovely people,

I've wound the clock back a few days so the spreadsheet looks more like usual.

Apologies, we may have lost some data entries, please everyone check that all is as expected.

BIWI · 24/07/2024 16:10

Thank you!

Was 2 litres a day, given how much you weigh? (Sorry - I can't see the spreadsheet to check that).

And low carb is a high fat diet. It should reduce cholesterol, so no need to worry about that.

What are you eating now, when you say that it's normalised for you?

Thanks. I weighed 152 pounds so thought 2 litres per day was ok.

I've been on holiday so unfortunately have fallen off the wagon for a few weeks and back to eating lots of carbs (bread, cake, biscuits, chocolate)

However, I have started following LC again this week.

Looks like it is a thing:

Dark Bags Under Your Eyes When Starting Keto? [Here's Why] - The Art Of Keto

One thing people notice after switching to a ketogenic diet is the appearance of bags or dark circles under their eyes.  You may be losing weight, but at the same time, you may have people commenting that you look a bit more tired these days.  Assuming...

So looks like you definitely need to up your water, but also sodium/magnesium/potassium

Do you use salt in/on your food? That's a key one.

Yes, agree on the water. I do salt my food but did it less when I got the electro pills. Maybe I need to go back to trying to get most electros from foods rather than pills. Do you think that makes a difference?

BIWI · 24/07/2024 16:37

What pills were you using?

If you're having side effects from low carbing, it's probably a good idea to look at supplementation in addition to making sure you're eating the right foods

The supplement I usually recommend is Zero by High5

Good sources of key electrolytes are salmon, avocado, spinach, nuts and seeds and full fat yoghurt.

Salt in your cooking and on your food.

ZERO | Electrolyte Drink Tablets | Hydration| HIGH5

HIGH5 ZERO hydration tablet is a refreshing sugar free electrolyte drink with zero calories that makes it easy to stay hydrated throughout the day. Natural Flavours.

Thanks BIWI, I have tried ZERO tablets, I think I'll go back to them. I will up those foods too.

Lougle · 24/07/2024 17:22

I still use high5 in my water. I find I can drink much more than if it's pure water. I use it at half strength. So I fill a 1.5 litre bottle with water, pop a tab in, and aim to drink two bottles per day, plus any tea I'm drinking.

MissBeck · 25/07/2024 20:08

Evening all. Been a busy couple of days here. Course Assessment deadlines to meet and then we had DD's Zoom assessment with Great Ormond Street Hospital today.

Interesting chat about side effects of Low Carbing. I can't say that I've really noticed any. The only thing that I've noticed has changed is the way I wee. Since drinking so much water, I can be absolutely dying for the loo, but when I get there, nothing but a trickle comes out. I need to go about every 2 hours, same feeling of desperation to go expecting a big gush, but nope, just trickles out. Every time.Been like that for months now. IDK.

NotDonna · 25/07/2024 22:32

I’ve got dark circles around my eyes but I’m not sure if it’s a) low carb side-effect 2) lack of sleep 3) new glasses so I can now actually see my under eye dark circles or 4) all of the above!

Daily weigher and was down to 151 this morning - so that’s a loss of 2.2lbs in 3 days and equates to what I’d gained in Oz over 3 weeks. So I’m back to beginning of week 7, yaay!!

Im all packed and ready to leave in the morning for a week with friends in Cornwall. I’m packing gin so I can avoid wine. Also packing cauli rice as I know one friend has made a curry. Avoiding bread, rice, pasta etc should be ok but I’ll need to watch out for wine and puds!

Thats excellent news! I think @BIWI always says it's not fat we put on when we indulge for a few days/weeks and it will always come off again as soon as we're strict again. Well done!

I am so pleased it is the weekend! DD was picked up this morning and she is off to summer camp for a week! This is the same summer camp she went to last year and came back broken!! 😂Maybe she'll come back tic free this time! 😂

Have a confession to make as well. Popped in butchers on way to wotk to get something for lunch and he had some mini quiches, about the size of a side plate, so I thought stuff it, as I'd only have half anyway as I'd share it with my co-worker. Well, serves me right as it was bloody horrible. Really thick and dense filling, and very bland. Left a right horrible taste in my mouth as well. 😩Had to pull out a bag of scratchings to get rid of it! 😂😂

NotDonna · 26/07/2024 19:10

Thank heavens for you scratchings @MissBeck

I got the train to Cornwall today. My friend is driving down & has made a curry with naan & rice for dinner tonight. In order to be good I threw cauli rice in my case. I was meant to arrive at lunchtime and thought I’d grab something LC on arrival. Train broke & had to get off half way there. Next train ram jammed and even if there had been a buffet car I wouldn’t have been able to get through the crowds. Arrived at destination at 4pm after eating NOTHING all day and only a couple of coffees before leaving and my 500ml water bottle. Another friend collected me and decided to get a few supplies from a convenience store and grab a coffee in a cafe. I had a tuna sandwich. A sandwich! I’ve not had bread for years. It was lovely though as I was so famished. The ONLY choice was pasties or sandwiches. Our friend with the curry is still driving so heaven knows what time dinner will be! But there’s no way I’d have lasted. The Airbnb has a huge box of choccie biscuits and at least the tuna sandwich has prevented me from diving head first into those!

MissBeck · 26/07/2024 20:33

@NotDonna You did what you had to do. Under those circumstances you had very little choice, and had to eat! Hope you enjoy the curry!! 😛

Pleaseandthankyou · 26/07/2024 21:25

Back on it again. Have had a good week so far. After weeks of toast and antibiotics I’m staying off the scales for a few weeks.

Welcome! How much are you hoping to shift?

KrazyboutKillian · 27/07/2024 17:32

I probably need to lose 4 stone but an initial 11 lb would take me down to the next stone bracket so that is my first aim
I have done some IF before , but have always slipped back to bad habits

BIWI · 27/07/2024 17:41

11lb in 6 weeks should be very doable. Everyone is very encouraging.

prettybird · 27/07/2024 21:17

Welcome @KrazyboutKillian Flowers

As long as you follow The Rules, that sounds eminently doable Smile

I had a lovely meal tonight of crispy skinned salmon fillets served with buttery mange tout. Halo

Now need to go and prepare keto lemon possets for tomorrow night for a birthday meal for ds' girlfriend. It's best if it's done the night before. (Recipe already in the Dessert and other sweet things recipe thread).

NotDonna · 28/07/2024 00:42

The curry was blooming heavenly yesterday! There’s scales here so I’ll be VERY happy if I maintain 151/152 lbs. Today started with yoga on the beach which was fab until it started raining! Avoided the bacon butty bfast & opted for just tea
But the rest of today has definitely not been LC. I skipped potatoes for veg but then had wine & pudding at lunch. Dinner, I had a couple of chunky chips & with wine too!
