May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - Final weigh-in and ongoing chat

Morning all Flowers

Here's the spreadsheet for its final outing although that said, you'll see that @FinallyHere has added extra columns for anyone who wants to keep using it

I hope that all has gone well - and I notice that we have at least 2 Bootcampers who have reached/exceeded the 1 stone mark, which is fantastic!

Just because we've reached the end of the 8 weeks doesn't mean that you have to stop - or stop chatting. We'll keep this thread going for as long as people want to use it, and I'll start a new one once this one gets full.

Evening!
I've welcomed the addition of grapes, bananas and potatoes this week, and it feels naughty!! 😂But I did say I was going back onto whole foods for a bit, probably a couple of weeks, and then back to strict bootcamp again. I just need to get it out of my system and then KOKO. At least it's not fast food! 😂

Gingerwarthog · 10/07/2024 22:26

The massive result for me this boot camp has been the improved state of my teeth and gums! Plus about 5-6lbs off and a much flatter stomach. Have generally been eating more healthily and feel better.

BIWI · 10/07/2024 22:32

I'm really pleased!

One of the really great things for me, when I first 'found' low carbing, was that there were so many benefits beyond weight loss. Weight loss was the first - and continues to be - the main motivation, but better dental hygiene, better skin, no IBS, no thrush were real and such significant reasons to continue.

Over the last 20 years I haven't been totally 'faithful' to low carbing - but I've always suffered when I've gone significantly off piste. And I really, really value being able to introduce other people to this WOE. Even if they do come to Bootcamp thinking that they'll just be there to lose weight!

Well done in the fabulous final results there are some really impressive numbers there. I've disappeared a bit as the last week of term was brutal for me immediately followed by an overseas wedding so I stopped early which was always my plan. However, pleased with what I have achieved and intending to KOKO during the summer.

MissBeck · 11/07/2024 15:42

My highlight was getting in my size 12 jeans and borrowing DD's size 8 jacket! 😂

Glassbottom · 11/07/2024 15:54

Hi, just wanted to say a massive thank you. Although I didn't lose as much weight as I had hoped, I blame HRT, this boot camp has totally changed the way I think about my meals and snacking. If nothing else I am eating far healthier than I have done in years. I will keep checking in to make sure I stay on track but just wanted to say thank you

BIWI · 11/07/2024 15:58

Keep chatting @Glassbottom! I'm glad it's been a positive experience for you.

One of the difficult things about losing weight is that it's hard to see the loss. Yes, you might see the numbers on the scales changing, but it's not always convincing. I was starting to think that perhaps the batteries in my scales were going! But today I tried a dress on which, when I bought, showed off only too well the rolls of fat around my middle. Today, just now, not only does it fit, it's actually quite loose. So my scales are right!

@BIWI How fabulous!! Well done you!! 👏💐

@Glassbottom As BIWI says, keep chatting if you want. I'll still be posting my Monday morning weigh-ins even if I'm talking to myself!! 😂😂

Glassbottom · 11/07/2024 18:45

Thank you both, I even appreciated the brief stick moment from BIWI 😂 I will be checking in for sure. Going to cut myself some slack whilst on holiday then back to it. 3 people have noticed my weight loss this week. There is nothing better than that to keep you motivated. Well done everyone

Goodiewhemper · 12/07/2024 06:21

Good morning everyone. I havent been on here in ages. This has been the toughest BC for me yet and I am still disappointingly over 2kgs away from my target weight. I started late and hit many bumps on the road over the weeks that knocked me off course. I have had a few more health issues and I now have a new lovely female GP and she is recommending that I give HRT another go using the Mirena and progesterone. I am having another review the week after next so will make my decision then. She sent me for a DEXA and my 57 year old bones are in great shape. I am giving my full fat dairy consumption on BC a lot of the credit for that.

In other good news though I am back walking after a foot injury and get in a walk by the sea most mornings before work. It is a great start to the day. Other good news is I can now fit into clothes that were too small last year so yeah for that.

I will keep in touch here over the coming weeks but I might give the weighing in a break for a couple of weeks.

Have a great day and weekend everyone.

BIWI · 12/07/2024 09:32

Great news on the DEXA @Goodiewhemper - and glad you have a supportive/sympathetic GP.

Does anyone have any ideas of what to have to drink when it's not 'ok' to just have water?!
I don't go out very often at all. I usually socialise at family and friends' houses/my house, which is much easier.

I don't really drink alcohol (maybe twice a year) and I don't like fizzy drinks. I used to have an orange juice and try to make it last the whole night. But that's obviously a very bad choice now.

prettybird · 12/07/2024 19:21

I've never found it a problem just to have water - even in fancy restaurants Smile

I've got used to asking for a "large glass of water, no ice" Halo because ice makes it too cold Hmm and no one has ever batted an eyelid Grin (although they often put in ice anyway, but that's ok).

Those of you in the hot South might still want ice, but here in the cool North, where summer has yet to arrive Hmm, water from the tap is still chilly enough!

MissBeck · 12/07/2024 22:06

@Magnolia82 I have to agree with @prettybird I just ask for a glass of tap water. Never been questioned about it. Where are you going that it's not okay??

I’ll continue too… once I’m near some scales! Still on hols & although eating ok; I am drinking wine & G&Ts. Huge problem here is nowhere seems to do slimline tonic. I often just have water but adore fizzy so usually ask for sparkling. If it’s chilly I often ask for a peppermint tea - this is fine in restaurants but not always available in bars

Magnolia82 · 13/07/2024 07:00

Thank you. Yes, usually do just have water (also without ice!) if out for a meal. But not sure that's ok if just going somewhere specifically for a drink?!

prettybird · 13/07/2024 08:38

@Magnolia82 - even when there are just two of us, I've never found it a problem. Smile

I think perhaps the changed attitudes to drinking and driving have helped Halo

I did used to feel guilty on occasion going into the local rugby club (when I used to do registration) and only ever having the large glass, no ice water Blush, so I'd usually have an Americano at some point over the evening/afternoon as they make a good margin on that Grin

Thesoundofmusic23 · 13/07/2024 09:29

Been away and also sorting some family stuff which was distracting so I’m belatedly joining for the final weigh in and chat. This boot camp has been more about maintenance than loss for me. None the less still down a tiny fraction and can see that I could carry on loosing a little bit until I hit my goal which is probably 5lbs away.

I have really appreciated the community here and love reading all your updates. @biwi so grateful for this WOE. Definitely feel better in myself and have lost 25lbs since I started in the new year which I seem to be keeping off with relative ease and a few slips - so manageable long term. I was nudging the obese range in January and now am in the healthy bmi range and fitting lots of clothes I haven’t worn for ages. Definitely a win!

DrBlackbird · 15/07/2024 08:15

I’ve been away on holidays x 2 weeks without scales and fell off the WoE with a bang. Weighed myself this morning and apparently have gained 5 Ibs back. 😭 Wasn’t expecting it to be that bad as we walked about 20,000 steps every day. Proof that exercise contributes only a little to weight loss. I’m trying to be not too disappointed and to climb back on the wagon but it does seem so hard to lose weight and so easy to gain it back. Ugh.

@DrBlackbird Don't beat yourself up about it. Holidays are meant to be enjoyed, else what is the point? It is a break from the norm, and a break you took! 😂Unless you are holidaying every month you'll soon shift that again. 😉

I had an awful weekend foodwise so need a leg up back on the wagon with @DrBlackbird 😂I wasn't even avoiding carbs, just eating them willy nilly! Pizza, cheesecake, chocolate biscuits. Total shambles!

Weigh in this morning revealed 0.9lb on from last week. So 10 stone 9lbs = 149.25lbs = 67.7kgs. Going back to strict this week! 😂

BIWI · 15/07/2024 09:39

@DrBlackbird - don't worry, that won't be fat. What happens when you suddenly eat (or drink!) a load of carbs is that you're re-filling your glycogen stores - in the liver and muscles - so you should soon use that up. Be super strict for the next few days and do more/some exercise.

And I remember reading somewhere (can't remember where) that the average woman gains 7lbs on holiday, so sounds like you've done really well!

DrBlackbird · 15/07/2024 16:00

Thank you to both @BIWI and @MissBeck for those kind words of support! Admittedly there were no restrictions on the wine and i even succumbed to fish and chips. Oh well!

As I had been so pleased with the weight loss I’m definitely climbing back on the wagon and will be strict about carbs for this and next week. I had found that weighing myself every two to three times a week was useful as a kind of ‘reminder’ so will go back to that as well. My (first) goal is to lose a stone so will focus on achieving that.

MissBeck · 16/07/2024 21:06

Evening all,
I'm having a bloomin mare at the moment and I'm getting angry! DD has finally had her appointment through from Great Ormond Street Hospital Tic Disorder Service for next week over zoom. Fine, would have preferred face to face but never mind. They ask you to register on their special portal, which I've done, and they then ask you to upload any documents via the portal and for us both to answer a 90 minute questionnaire. Both done the questionaire but do you think I can find where to upload documents??

I've clicked on every link and opened every tab and the function DOES NOT EXIST! Even asked DD if I was being thick, and she looked, but nope! Uploading not possible.

I've emailed the helpdesk and sent a message via the magical portal in the hope of an answer tomorrow. 😡

On a lighter note, I've been very low carb today. 😇

MissBeck · 17/07/2024 15:52

Afternoon,
More drama involving GOSH, but I won't rant on about that. I'm well and truely back on the wagon with a 2 lb loss yesterday, so all good.
B: Cheese
L: Scratchings and Prawn cocktail
D: Cauliflower cheese and some sort of meat. I did buy some mangetout at work as well, but couldn't find them on our spreadsheet. Nearest was snap peas and peas, and neither of them are green, so I'll have to give them a miss. 🙁
