Evening/all morning all

As ever here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Please be aware that this week, like week 3, is likely to see little or no weight loss.

Just KOKO! If it's worked for you in the first two weeks, then it will keep on working for you from here on in.

It's about transitioning from carb burning to fat burning.

Flowers and good luck to us all from next week!

@Nigella I hope you have good snow. Jealous!

Feeling more centred after an evening of sorting my tiny house out well making a start -- and cooking up some of the far too much veg I bought in my last online shop.

Drinking the water, eating the full fat, back on the wagon.

I now have an enormous leek, lardons and tarragon crustless quiche thing for the next few days. And clean sheets Smile sadly my marking remains untouched, but I'll get up early and do it.

APerfectlyGoodName · 10/02/2022 23:03

Another quick food post.
B. Restaurant - 2 eggs, mushrooms, peppers, sausage, avocado. Coffee with cream.
L. Cauliflower soup with chicken and cheddar.
D. Chicken thighs cooked with tomatoey pestoey thing & coleslaw.
Managed my 3L of water too, so happy with that.

I did a weights class yesterday & my legs are killing me today. I wonder if it will effect the scales.

venusandmars · 11/02/2022 04:51

Been unwell for a few days with a tummy bug. 5lbs lighter but will all be water and will mostly return as I start to rehydrate...

Couldn't bear to read any posts about food so I've not caught up since Tuesday.

StuntNun · 11/02/2022 06:40

@UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea have you tried a spoonful of coconut oil in a cup of coffee? That might get things moving. I've also heard good things about psyllium husk.

@CrystalTits I've never done an accidental 36-hour fast but I've done a few on purpose! There's a thread for combining fasting with low carb in the fasting topic of Mumsnet if anyone is interested.

@ThinkAboutItTomorrow you're right that the science about the whoosh effect isn't that compelling but whooshes are definitely real. Weight often drops by 2-3 lb overnight and there's a lot more weeing the day before it.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 11/02/2022 06:56

Thanks for all the pop tips, I'm so sorry for bringing it up! Will try to up various ingredients and make my coffee stronger!

Baystard · 11/02/2022 07:06

Starting to come off the plateau I think.

NSV - my DM thinks I look "gaunt" Grin. I think this means I have lost the extra chin!

Onwards!

Willlow · 11/02/2022 07:36

Morning all, can I ask a question about salt?
I've noticed on a few posts with people using lo salt, is that just for adding to water to avoid carb flu or are you all using it instead of normal salt? I usually use the pink salt but I do use plenty and it got me thinking maybe too much.

Baystard · 11/02/2022 08:46

@willow I try to remember to use low salt because it has potassium, which I probably need a bit more of, rather than because I want to reduce sodium.

StuntNun · 11/02/2022 10:10

@Willlow low sodium salts have potassium as well as sodium and you need both (plus magnesium and chloride) on a low carb diet because your kidneys don't retain water, and with it electrolytes. One teaspoon of low sodium salt contains 40% of your recommended sodium intake and 64% of your recommended potassium intake. Pink salt is fine to use but won't contain any potassium whereas low sodium salt contains sodium, potassium and chloride. None of these contain appreciable amounts of magnesium though. I take a half dose of magnesium glycinate every day because otherwise I get cramp in my fingers, toes and legs and my sleep is even worse than normal disrupted. However I have been chronically deficient in magnesium for years and not everyone will need extra magnesium. There is a theory that due to farming methods our vegetables don't contain as much magnesium as they used to so it's likely that a large proportion of the population is magnesium-deficient. We also don't usually drink well, stream and water river any more which would have been a source of magnesium for our ancestors. It's worth looking into if you ever get cramps or have sleep issues.

BIWI · 11/02/2022 10:17

Sorry to hear you've been poorly @venusandmars - glad you're feeling well enough to read the thread again!

Thank you @Baystard and @StuntNun That's really interesting, I hadn't realised the effects of low potassium or the benefit of lo salt. I have just been looking at the signs of low potassium and think I could tick several. Got it on my shopping list!

foxlover47 · 11/02/2022 11:09

@BIWI I think that gummi bear thread is one of the funniest things I've ever seen 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wethers sugar free sweets are known to have a laxative effect on some of the keto fb pages , I find they make me super windy 🙈🤣🤣

prettybird · 11/02/2022 12:48

Running has that effect on me Blush I always have to make sure to wear dark knickers BlushBlush

Seriously though, it's usually a sign that I've gone above the weight that my damaged pelvic floor can cope with. Pilates does a good job but can only work so far Wink So Boot Camp has other benefits Grin

FrenchBoule · 11/02/2022 15:23

@Frenchpoodle yes please to duck ragu recipe. Crap about covid, hope you have it lightly.
@venusandmars hope you’re bug free soon

Do oddbox do first time discount/friend referral codes?

FinallyHere · 11/02/2022 17:09

I think others have already noted how boredom can contribute the the desire to eat more. I was on chauffeur duty today, but if driving and s lot of hanging around. this combined with misplacing the water i had meant to drink while waiting found me feeling hungry by the time we got home at lunchtime.

Very definitely 'I deserve a treat' kind of hungry rather than I have burned all my reserves of energy kind of hungry. It felt good to recognise the desire what what it was...

B IF
L Seafood shells and two (!) small avocados with Tabasco and pepper

2.5 litres water and two rows 4 squares Lindt 90% dark chocolate.

D planed to be chicken breast, with roast kalettes And that last litre water. A few weeks ago I didn't even know they existed, now they are a favourite

Not too bad overall. I've had a bit of a wobble after noticing that my waist measurement is back to my pre-lockdown indulgence size. Still got a long way to go but lovely to have confirmation it's working.

Anytime I measure anything, I am immediately tempted from the straight and narrow. Now, my motivation to loose inches is very strong. Thinking ahead, I'm wondering where the motivation to continue eating healthily when I get somewhere where it isn't obvious that I eat too much.

Pondering, much.

Benvolio · 11/02/2022 17:27

So busy today (including hours and hours of meetings with bread and cake that I didn't even want!) that I only had one cup of coffee with milk between 9pm last night and 5pm today. Weirdly, I barely noticed any hunger even though I had my carby snaccident on Wednesday. Freezing and knackered now though.

Lots of water all day and 2 enormous slices of creamy bacony leeky eggy thing just now.

Well done all of you. Going to catch up now.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 11/02/2022 17:27

Happy weekend everyone, hope you have a good one. I'm shattered after a manic week at work but DH is itching to go out so I'm having to try to match his energy...

venusandmars · 11/02/2022 17:30

@FinallyHere what are seafood shells?

Food today - fluids!
Have some squash and red pepper soup for tea (made with duck stock)

Benvolio · 11/02/2022 17:38

Really tempted to have a glass (or three) of wine this evening but won't because a) carb crash happened on Wednesday and b) I'm taking detention at 8am, followed by teaching then meetings all day.

@venusandmars Thanks for spotting that for me, I'm so used to these that I clean forgot that they are not universally known.

A bit of a treat in the delivery, much more boot camp friendly than many of the treats I used to throw into the shopping basket, esp in the run up to Christmas.

venusandmars · 11/02/2022 18:00

@FinallyHere I did google and amidst some prawn flavoured crisps and some langousine shells to make bisque, I spotted that Waitrose delight... sadly no local Waitrose but I might make something similar over the weekend

@UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea what is this 'going out' of which you speak? Grin It feels like a long time since I spontaniously went out of an evening...

@Benvolio I'm taking detention at 8am are you in an Enid Blyton novel? Grin

ditavonteesed · 11/02/2022 18:01

@venusandmars hope your feeling better now.
Well I did one of those accidental 36 hour fasts that people keep talking about. Didn't have any dinner before I went to work last night and didn't have time to eat at work, too tired to eat before bed. Seems to have broken the plateau, yay.

I was about to get The Big Stick out, because I thought you meant these!

I've just bought the Keto Kitchen book recommended earlier and I can confirm that the recipes in there all look fab.

But reading through the introduction is like reading Bootcamp threads! Everything we recommend/suggest/forbid is exactly the same Smile

I should have written that book
