Evening/all morning all

As ever here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Please be aware that this week, like week 3, is likely to see little or no weight loss.

Just KOKO! If it's worked for you in the first two weeks, then it will keep on working for you from here on in.

It's about transitioning from carb burning to fat burning.

Flowers and good luck to us all from next week!

Prettybird my parents always served chilli with French stick instead of rice. I still have no idea why but it was delicious.

EwanHoozami · 09/02/2022 15:04

BaconOmelette I tend to make something for the whole family that's LC-adaptable for me. But DS1 is veggie and DS2 is a picky bugger plus has multiple allergies so I need to plan.

Today, for example, I'm cooking aubergine and pork medallions marinaded in tamari soy, ginger and garlic with sticky rice and sesame greens.

I'll have everything but the rice
DS1 will have everything but the pork
DS2 will have everything but the aubergine
DH will have everything plus leftovers

Greebo school nurse would be a good call. He sounds like my DS1 whose skinny frame is always commented on (usually by people who blame it on being vegetarian...)

Baystard · 09/02/2022 15:18

Gosh I think I'll weigh DS tonight @StuntNun, I've always assumed he's just a lean lanky sort despite eating lots, and it didn't occur to me that we might need too make an intervention Blush

StuntNun · 09/02/2022 16:07

Equally he may not Baystard you can't really tell by looking whether a child is a healthy weight or not. We didn't realise there was anything going on with DS2 until the letter came home from the school nurse.

Newlease · 09/02/2022 16:21

Good evening people, we are half way through the week and I am ready to see some loss. Not enough to get the Bra size ( some are a tad loose, but considerably though! ) I have everything packed as we were supposed to move house some months ago and living on most on last leg, will not be taken to new house with us kind of clothes. Lol I wish I had one single piece that I can try every week to see the magical reduction, even the smallest ones.
Btw, I was wondering about the water today a lot. Only occurred to me that over the past three weeks, I have been drinking 2 lts of water ( lime and salt mixed in it, so then I don’t need to take additional supplements), which mostly consumed before lunch. And I thought I was IF ing all these days😒 How are you people doing IF, 16:8 manage with water. I only ever drink one black coffee other than this water until lunch and my dinner would be done by 7 most of the days. So does this count as IF ? I don’t know what can I change though, I am not good at taking water as it is, and this salty water in a 2L bottle next me helps me take it all during day, otherwise I would end up trying to get water in the afternoon and then 2-3 loo trip later in the night!

Baystard · 09/02/2022 17:26

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal I found the growth charts for boys (I can't get the link to copy for some reason but if you google UK-WHO growth charts - 2-18 years). It let's you see which centile they're on for height and weight, and there's another chart that works out their BMI centile. You do need to work it out in kg and cm though.

It doesn't say alot about underweight, it focuses more or overweight/obese. It does say that under 2 is unusual but doesn't necessarily mean undernutrition. I don't know what level would merit a letter or concern from school nurse, it's quite vague. DS appears to be around 9th centile for BMI.

venusandmars · 09/02/2022 17:47

Havn't managed to catch up since yesterday morning Blush and posting as I read so my comments may have already been covered.

Re weeks 3 and 4 and losing fat. I found this explanation very helpful. And since water is heavier / more dense than fat it can account for a slight weight loss.

@UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea why not visualise yourself arriving and drinking a large glass of ice cold soda with a squeeze of lime. Thirst quenching. Declicious. Refreshing. Then another of the same. Then when it comes time for the toasts or whatever, you can graciously accept a glass of fizz. You'll be fully hydrated so you wont glug it, and the effect will be diluted so you won't get that alcohol dopamine hit. Which means you'll be able to put the glass down without even finishing it. Grin

Oh no! It's time to go out and I haven't even got halfway through Tuesday...

Baystard · 09/02/2022 18:18

@Newlease it's the lime that prevents your water being suitable for a clean fast, the salt is ok.

I drink several cups of black coffee before noon, then switch to fizzy water. A tiny amount of pink salt in coffee is quite nice if needed. I'll be honest that I don't tend to add electrolytes religiously, I take magnesium at bedtime, and am now trying to increase the potassium by using low-salt on and in food, but I don't routinely add it to my drinking water.

Newlease · 09/02/2022 20:48

@Baystard ah, that makes sense. I was just getting used to finishing my 2L by noon was struggling to get the water in before that. The lime and salt tastes weirdly good, and probably the salt in it was helping me drink it without much problems. Now to decide whether to change the drinking habit, or to keep IF as it is knowing it is not IF.

StuntNun · 09/02/2022 21:10

@newlease it depends on your reasons for fasting. If you're intermittent fasting 16:8 to stabilise insulin and help with weight loss then as a rule of thumb you can have up to 50 calories during your fast. If you're doing a 36 hour or longer fast to get into autophagy, stimulate growth hormone, lower cancer risk etc. then it's more important to have a clean fast where you only drink water, black coffee or black tea. If you do want to skip the lime juice then I recommend electrolyte powder for fasting.

@baystard as far as I know it's only a concern if they're below the 0.4th percentile or there are more than two percentiles between their weight and height.

prettybird · 09/02/2022 21:17

Next time I do an extended fast, I must remember to remind dh either to give me tea without milk which I've decide I really don't like Hmm or just have rooibos or salted caramel green tea or (now that I've got new supplies Grin) Buttermint tea. I did a 39 hour fast up to midday today - albeit with a few cups of tea Blush

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/02/2022 21:22

Thanks for the all advice ladies. Sounds like a check up for DS might be in order. I'm not even sure we have a school nurse, so I've made an appointment with the GP.

ferntwist · 09/02/2022 21:31

Wow @prettybird good going!

FrenchBoule · 09/02/2022 22:54

Cherubs in bed so have a chance to catch up

@SummerSazz congrats on dropping bra size! Major achievement 🥳
I’m in the same camp as @Benvolio and still waiting for it to happen. Currently I have only 1 that fits and is quite tight so looking forward to something a bit more comfy as I refuse to buy bigger size one.

@BaconOmelette my kids are fussy buggers, one has ASD and sensory issues around food, the other is a bit less fussy but still. Legacy of my “D”H who has some food habits ingrained since childhood and is very reluctant to try something new.

He actually made me snigger today as he gave me some podcast to listen about how crap shop bought bread is and praising the health benefits of sourdough. The very same sourdough that I mastered making that he refuses to eat because it’s “too chewy” in texture.

@venusandmars that’s really helpful, thanks for the link. I had it in my mind (read somewhere ages ago) that fat cells don’t die but shrink and that’s why people gain weight so quickly after finishing diet. Glad it’s not true.

Going by @BIWI recommendations I bough low sodium salt and lemons to add to my water intake.

@prettybird Tetley’s green tea with passionfruit is fantastic.

Food intake

B: Eggs fried with fatty bacon
L: cheese with salad
D: sprouts with fatty bacon again

After the dinner I was still hungry so feasted on Lidl’s full fat Greek yoghurt.
Put the kids to bed and my evening hunger came so ate 4 fermented cucumbers wrapped in ham.

My wonky scales showed 2kg down but not sure whether to believe it…

Keep losing 💪

APerfectlyGoodName · 09/02/2022 23:00

I have 2DS. one eats everyhting, like DH, other is becoming progressively more fussy. Aaaah!! He'll eat a thing one day, and refuse the same dinner the next. I'd say he is in a low weight percentile but I'm trying not to fuss.

B. Mushrooms, onion, eggs.
S. Creamy coffee (as I missed my cheese) with square dark chocolate
L. Mushroom, leaks, chicken.
D. Courgette, and cod steamed on top. Lots of butter

I've been getting in 3L water a day so happy with that. I use a zero tab in my 4th 750ml bottle in the evening, which helps with carb flu and gives me a treat feeling - i was feeling a bit fluey when I got stricter these last few days

Benvolio · 09/02/2022 23:13

Bollocks bollocks bollocks. I need to start again.

Just attended a formal dinner, black tie celebtation. I was supervising as well as sort of hosting, but not organising, so I had no control of menu. Would have been thought rude and odd if I had left too much food, particularly as there were teenagers there (and I was starving). I had some pastry, a small potato, half my rich chocolate pudding and a glass of not v nice rather sweet fizz. As well as some beef, salad and brocoli.

Bollocks.

Onelittlepiglet · 10/02/2022 04:50

Just popping on to say that of you find tea hard to drink without milk, you could try Turkish tea (or çay). They drink it without milk and I love it - even my husband who hates normal tea likes it and will drink it happily. You can buy it from Amazon or possibly some local shops if you have Turkish grocers. It’s loose so you have to brew it and strain it but the tradition is to brew a large pot in the morning and keep it hot and then add boiling water to your cup when it gets very strong as time goes on.

ThatsAllFolks · 10/02/2022 05:41

From today's 'tell me your favourite fact' thread, a litre of water weighs one kilogrammr. Dunno if it's true

ThatsAllFolks · 10/02/2022 05:49

And in the press today, a good night's sleep helps cut appetite by up to 500 calories a day, according to a new study. The participants slept for 8.5 hrs p d. No other change. I guess u can't eat when asleep as well. I'm off to bed at 8 tonight!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 10/02/2022 06:43

Weighed myself this morning and have dropped one of my 4 regained pounds. Yay!

But (warning: poo talk) I am constipated. I have another condition that makes me prone and LCBC seems to have made it worse. Any advice? I bought some laxatives but one tablet seems to make no difference and 2 is far, far too strong!

Baystard · 10/02/2022 06:47

@UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea my insides seem to really appreciate linseeds/flaxseeds and psyllium husk - I discovered this after eating alot of the M&S LC seed crackers Grin Chia seeds also good, and can be mixed into cream or Greek yogurt.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 10/02/2022 06:48

Thanks @Baystard , how much do you have?

Baystard · 10/02/2022 06:59

I think a teaspoon or two goes a long way @UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea - dietdoctor.com/recipes/high-fibre-foods has some recipe ideas using psyllium/chia/linseed.

There are lots of other good foods for keeping things regular so I'm sure there are other options too.

BaconOmelette · 10/02/2022 07:18

That makes sense @ThatsAllFolks I tend to pile weight on by eating sugary pick-me-ups first thing in the morning after very little sleep, which then starts the cycle of sugary / carby snacking all day.

LCHF WOE has helped me kick the sweet treats cycle but I still don’t get enough sleep. It’s been nearly two years since I last slept ‘well’ 😴.

Pleaseandthankyou · 10/02/2022 08:23

After my scales being stick I am 2lbs down this morning. For those wondering if they should keep on going, I guarantee if I hadn’t kept on those pounds would have gone on not come on. Sometimes you have to work to stand still.
