A quick tide thread to tide us over because first thread full. @BIWI probably has a life but as soon as she’s able we WILL ALL MIGRATE TO THE NEW, proper thread.

Salut!

I am yet to try anything with celeriac. I’m sort of saving it, half because I’m not convinced I like it and half because I’m hoping I will and it’s nice to have an unexplored option.

It just started snowing in North London where I am. It’s settling too so will take the dog out in a bit. The sunrise here was phenomenal this morning - picture attached.

I’m finally cooking my oxtail and beef shin stew (picture also attached - although it looks a bit grim).

Morning campers!!

@Lyrata that sunrise is beautiful Smile

So after doing brilliantly all week, I stepped on the scales (curiosity killed the cat) this morning and have gained 3lb since yesterday. Sad

Hopefully, it's just a blip and will all be off again in the morning!

L today will be boiled eggs (craving after all the egg talk) in butter with salad.

D will be steak, creamy mushroom and spinach sauce and asparagus sautéed in garlic butter.

BIWI · 24/01/2021 10:52

Celeriac chips are ace though @Lyrata! (Although you need to know that what looks like a big celeriac will really only make enough for 2-3 people)

Oneborneverydecade · 24/01/2021 11:01

It snowed here in W Sussex this morning too, now it's mostly rain. Unfortunately Sunday is my DHs turn for a lie in so I was outside with the kids.

I'm trying to potty train my 2yo for the second time from today. Whomever said girls were easier than boys was fibbing

L: dust
D: dust
Obviously I'm joking but I do need to be extra careful today

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 24/01/2021 11:07

@Lyrata DH made celeriac chips last night, & they were genuinely delicious!

Thanks for all the congratulations Smile. We've had a spectacularly Crap four years, and I actually feel happy today.

And it's proper SNOWING. 🎉

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 24/01/2021 11:09

@nowlook

That's ace *@MilesJuppIsMyBitch*! Bloody well done. My mother's a regular donor to Weightwatchers' coffers. There's a marvellous Victoria Wood song called "Don't Get Cocky" which almost reminds me of them:

"Just take Valerie, wouldn't know a calorie
If it came and bit her on the leg.
Starves all day, and then gives way,
Has eighty bacon butties and a large fried egg"

I saw her live at the Albert Hall years ago: she was wonderful.

I also literally bumped into her in Soho once. She was very small. We both mumbled sorry & she scuttled off with her head down.

LostaraYil · 24/01/2021 11:17

It snowed here at night, but when I woke up at 6 it was raining. DS (15) was randomly awake, so we went out at 6:30 and did some sledging on a body board before the snow could all melt!
Nowlook, I spent 2 full days in March removing woodchip from the hallway as I had read loads of instructions and decided that using a steamer was too risky and would destroy the plaster. DH is a bit more gung ho and did the landing in a few hours using the steamer and it came off in neat strips without the mess of tiny bits of woodchip everywhere. Lesson learned!

oscarandelliesdad · 24/01/2021 11:26

@Ninkanink and @BIWI I do have leeks! Scampering off to the spreadsheet all excited now...

Bumbledee · 24/01/2021 11:28

@BIWI yes we do! SW12 here.

@ChristMyArse I have a desk job so my neck shoulder muscles are always stiff. Now that you’ve mentioned it I am wiggling them and I don’t feel any pain. What should I be looking for?

@Lyrata Celeriac virgin here too! I have a pack of frozen celeriac as I couldn’t face chopping one after the Swede escapade last week. I am planning a celeriac, butternut squash and spinach curry as I don’t want to eat a salad when it’s snowing!

@Oneborneverydecade my two year old boy very confidently told me he’s a baby. Babies wear nappies. Big boys sit on 🚽 🙄 it’s a massive reverse psychology fail on my part.

nowlook · 24/01/2021 11:31

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch I am so jealous! Would love to have seen her live. I do a passable version of Saturday Night (but only when everyone's out as (a) it's quite loud and (b)I turn my head and sing to an imaginary live audience which is embarrassing) Still haven't mastered some of the key changes in my faves though.

@LostaraYil I too tried to intellectualise the process. Scoring the paper, using a wire brush, spraying with a solution. Possibly completely pointless.

Omelette and salad this lunchtime (feel like I'm turning into Gwen from Gavin and Stacey) then whatever's the least mushy in the fridge for supper. Food delivery tomorrow!

cheeseisthebest · 24/01/2021 11:31

Lots of snow here in the south west, its lovely!
Bacon and eggs for breakfast.
Broccoli and stilton soup for lunch
Gammon with cauliflower, leeks, cabbage, for tea.
Is there a bootcamp friendly version of cauliflower cheese I could make?

cheeseisthebest · 24/01/2021 11:34

I'm really hungry at the moment and I've gained a pound Sad

Ninkanink · 24/01/2021 11:36

@cheeseisthebest are you coming up to your period? It’s common to see a temporary gain and also to feel more hungry.

But also, it’s very common to see fluctuations of a pound or more - it won’t stay on as long as you keep sticking to the rules. If seeing the gain upsets you then it’s probably better just to weight weekly.

BIWI · 24/01/2021 11:36

There is indeed, @cheeseisthebest! I think you'll find it on the recipe thread.

However, here's a version of it:

  • remove leaves and stalk and break cauliflower into florets; boil in salted water till just tender - around 7 minutes depending on the size of the florets. Drain and let them steam dry
  • take a medium pot of double cream (300ml) if there are 2-3 of you, if more than that, use a large pot (600ml). Bring it to the boil, gently, in a saucepan and then add as much grated mature cheddar as you like. At least half a block, if not more - entirely up to you
  • let the cheese melt into the cream, then season with black pepper and add the juice of half a lemon (trust me, that really works)
  • put your cauliflower into a baking dish and then pour the sauce over the top. If you like, you can cover the top with more grated cheese. Bake in a medium hot oven until the top is nicely browned.
Ninkanink · 24/01/2021 11:37

*weigh

BIWI · 24/01/2021 11:38

@cheeseisthebest

If you're still hungry it would confirm what you've been suspecting, that you're not eating enough fat.

You also need to keep your protein high, and make sure you're drinking all the water.

Don't worry about the pound - it's quite natural/normal to fluctuate on a daily basis. It will soon be gone!

Dailyhandtowelwash · 24/01/2021 11:38

Weighed this morning and 3lbs down so lost yesterday’s 2lb gain and another pound. Not far off pre-Christmas weight now so none of this is real sustained loss yet. I’m just getting back to my set point. Next week will be interesting.

No snow at all here. Very jealous of you lot.

For a cheesy cauliflower loveliness, we make cauliflower mash. Boil cauliflower in chicken stock, then mash with cream cheese, butter and any other cheese you want. It’s amazing. But you could just make a cream and cheese sauce too for a more conventional one.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 24/01/2021 11:39

Ah, BIWI told you!

And yes, I weigh daily and ups and downs are totally normal.

Ninkanink · 24/01/2021 11:41

I’m sure it’s @StuntNun who has a brilliant graph that illustrates how a very clear and consistent downwards trend still shows temporary ‘gains’ (they’re really just fluctuations, though) here and there. Do not get discouraged, it is how your body naturally works!

prettybird · 24/01/2021 11:49

Can't remember who posted it but they a dessert made from frozen raspberries and double cream.

I have a question: do you need to whip the cream before adding the raspberries or is the acid in the raspberries sufficient to thicken it?

Before anyone asks: I started Boot Camp early so can now go on to Boot Camp Light in time for our Burns Supper Wink I'm going to make a version of cranachan minus the oats but with the required dash of whisky.

cheeseisthebest · 24/01/2021 11:50

Thank you! Both those ways of cooking cauliflower sound great!
I feel like I'm eating loads of fat. Just finished TOTM yesterday. Could be that.

I like to weigh daily as it keeps me focused! Thanks everyone

Ninkanink · 24/01/2021 11:57

Ah yes it’ll probably be that, then! Up your fats and water today (the water is especially important) and it’s quite likely that pound will already be gone by tomorrow.

cheeseisthebest · 24/01/2021 12:07

Thank you. Been good with my water. Will keep it up!

BIWI · 24/01/2021 12:22

You should be eating loads of fat! This is a high fat way of eating. If you don't understand why it's important then you don't really understand about low carbing - go and have a read of the resources on the spreadsheet to reassure yourself that this is A Good Thing!
Ragwort · 24/01/2021 12:23

What does celeriac taste like? I am ridiculously nervous about trying it. I even looked at the frozen celeriac in Waitrose on Friday but didn't buy it.

Love these threads, so many good ideas and motivational chat.

I don't ever weigh myself - I haven't got any reliable scales and I hate that feeling of "trying really hard and not losing anything", I can tell by my clothes if I have lost weight and I am feeling so much better after these two weeks. No doubt helped by the dental emergency which severely curtailed my eating for a few days Grin.
