A quick tide thread to tide us over because first thread full. @BIWI probably has a life but as soon as she’s able we WILL ALL MIGRATE TO THE NEW, proper thread.

Salut!

Today is proving long and tiresome and I want wine. Instead I'm having a teapigs and trying to zone out of small children arguing with each other.

MarmaladeTeepee · 23/01/2021 18:17

@anewdispensation I like the dough mixes from here infuzology.co.uk/products/keto-dough-mix It's actually my friend's husband's company. He's a trained chef who lost a shed load of weight low-carbing and he's really passionate about good quality ingredients without any hidden nasties. The dough is really easy to make - no proving etc just mix and bake.

MarmaladeTeepee · 23/01/2021 18:21
  • Disclaimer: I only have the bread at the weekend to go with my eggs royale and I'm not being paid to promote the company, it's just genuinely tasty bread!
VeryLittleOwl · 23/01/2021 18:22

Out of interest, I've just checked with Google Maps how long it would take me to drive to my nearest Waitrose for the luxury of pre-chopped celeriac. Five hours and eleven minutes, apparently. Each way. (240 miles from the north coast of Scotland to Stirling!) Do you think I could persuade Michael Roux Jr to come and do it?

Pandoraslastchance · 23/01/2021 18:25

Evening!

I've got a celeriac sitting on my side. I'm a bit apprehensive tbh. Hope it's nice.

B- boiled eggs
L- ham salad, cucumber and mayo
D- spaghetti bol with cabbage (no pasta not even to test if it was cooked)

nowlook · 23/01/2021 18:25

@anewdispensation
I think people rate these cobs (rolls/baps/tea cakes etc).

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/01/2021 18:29

Hello all. Didn't get a chance before the last thread filled up to say thank you for all the supportive messages. They are appreciated. I find January tough at the best of times - and this certainly isn't that.

nowlook · 23/01/2021 18:29

@VeryLittleOwl

I think it's the least he could do! Please report back how tall he is irl.

My nearest Waitrose is only 25 miles away, but in a different county. And there's no guarantee they'd even stock it.

This looks good @MarmaladeTeepee thanks I’ll give it a try

AthelstaneTheUnready · 23/01/2021 18:35

A mere 65 miles away for me, but not allowed to leave the county atm anyway. I know the police can be as baffled by changing guidance as the rest of us, but I don't think I can persuade them that Celeriac was ever on any of the exemption lists.

tanoshii · 23/01/2021 18:36

@Ninkanink - hopefully you can see a pic of my kettle. Had multiple issues trying to post from my mobile.

@ShagMeRiggins - glad to hear your stepson is making healthy choices. Realised my boys were probably eating too much "beige" food as they were always demanding snacks between meals. I've noticed a big difference now they're having more healthy fats in their diet.

Oneborneverydecade · 23/01/2021 18:40

@MarmaladeTeepee that looks very interesting thank you

@Lyrata surely your friends have noticed that you've lost weight? Though tbh I don't feel like anyone has acknowledged my loss except for family members. The narcissist in me in hoping that I'll go out without my puffa in late Spring and the playground will collectively do a deep intake of breath Grin

nowlook · 23/01/2021 18:43

I think that dough mix might be too carby. Hopefully someone will confirm before you buy it!

nowlook · 23/01/2021 18:45

Yy @AthelstaneTheUnready
Yet having Fred or Michel round to prepare would be technically allowed, weirdly.

Thanks @nowlook I have checked and the my look good but noticed some E numbers in the ingredients which I’m trying to swerve at the moment. Thing is I’m not even a huge bread eater but love it with some salted butter once in a while...

Ninkanink · 23/01/2021 18:51

@tanoshii yes!! Excellent, as that is the model I’m looking to get! No problems with rust developing on the inside, or the enamel coming off or anything like that?

Ninkanink · 23/01/2021 18:51

(Oh and thank you for taking the time to take a pic & post 😊)

ShagMeRiggins · 23/01/2021 18:54

@ZiggZagg

Hi shag 🙋‍♀️

So weird seeing biwi in blue Grin

I feel I should really be copying all of BIWI’s posts and highlighting them for everyone. Then I remembered...

1 it’s only for about 24 hours

2 I’m a lazy soul Grin

@Ninjanink - no, it's fine after quite a few years. Find Le Creuset excellent quality - have had some saucepans etc. 20+ years. Bought it at their outlet store in Street, Somerset so alot cheaper than full price.

Ninkanink · 23/01/2021 18:59

Cool, thank you! Yes we have a few other pieces and I’m very happy with them but have come across some terrible reviews on this kettle (tbf my husband found them on Amazon so I’m not even sure they’re genuine...and I’d definitely be buying it directly from Le Creuset).

Ahhh I can go ahead and put it on my wish-and-hopefully-manage-to-save-for-and-actually-buy list!👍👍

Ninkanink · 23/01/2021 19:00

Oh and thanks for the new thread, Miss!

cheeseisthebest · 23/01/2021 19:02

I love that kettle. So pretty.
I will make a note to get celeriac and kale next week.
Today I've had breakfast - one poached egg, cooked tomatoes and mushrooms in butter
Lunch - small portion of vegan goulash with greek yoghurt
Tea - cauliflower rice, meat chilli with veg in it, green beans, cheese and sour cream

2 litres of water so far, half to go.
2 teas, one coffee.

I dont feel full though! Cauli rice didnt really go with chilli to be honest but I ate it. Really hungry past couple of days. Am I having enough fat? Feels like I'm having loads, chese, sour cream, butter, mince is pretty fatty.

nowlook · 23/01/2021 19:03

@anewdispensation I think those particular E numbers are safe. The xanthan (a naturally occurring thickener of sorts) will be replacing gluten to form an emulsion with the e472e to give the bread a springy texture. You'll be hard pushed to find any bread of any carb level without e472e. Helpfully, ingredients have to be labelled in order of quantity, so very small amounts. You may already know all that! E numbers are not created equal (see vitamin B1) Grin

StuntNun · 23/01/2021 19:12

DH made cavalo nero for dinner and it was yucky - far too garlicky plus acrid from the browned butter. Then while he was faffing with the cavalo nero, the pork belly got overcooked and was dry and chewy. What do you do when the food is so disappointing you wish you hadn't had to eat it? I want a new dinner!

prettybird · 23/01/2021 19:13

I made a special trip to Sainsbury's today to get a celeriac not frozen Wink because my local Lidl no longer stocks them bastards Hmm I need it for the base for my scallops dish which is the starter for our Burns Supper (scallops & black pudding on a base of creamy creamed celeriac, topped with crispy streaky bacon and garnished with rocket & lambs lettuce).
