A quick tide thread to tide us over because first thread full. @BIWI probably has a life but as soon as she’s able we WILL ALL MIGRATE TO THE NEW, proper thread.

Salut!

Wholly off-topic, but I spent most of yesterday trying to strip decades-old woodchip atop centuries-old wallpaper. Am a little concerned that what ultimately lies beneath is a very attractive green colour that is a perfect match for Farrow and Ball's arsenic Shock

If you don't hear from me again, please ensure that I'm buried on my side in a very slim coffin. I want that collective gasp relating to weight loss, come what may.

BrassicaBabe · 24/01/2021 09:32

Morning!

Been sitting here catching up with my cup of tea.

This thread does make me laugh. You're all a lot funnier than my Weightwatchers (sorry for swearing) crew were back in the day. (Although they were very nice).

I have stuck faithfully to the rules, and have lost just over five pounds! I was so surprised! I went through a very intense, early menopause because of chemo, and my weight loss has slowed right down ever since, so I really wasn't expecting to be one of the whoosh people.

Now I just need it to start snowing (THEY PROMISED), & my cup will overflow.

Have a nice Sunday everyone.

oscarandelliesdad · 24/01/2021 09:40

Morning all, loving the supply teacher vibe here todayGrin Have to say, I find my celeriac incredibly intimidating, grumpy bastard, glaring at me from the fridge and daring me to make it nto mash tonight. @tanoshii I'm trying a diet overhaul for the dc too this week. I have 8, 11 and 14 Yr olds and we have fallen into ruinous patterns in these covid days so celeriac mash for them too today Grin Neither raining nor snowing here in Aberdeen today so off to the beach for a bit of fresh air later.
B- eggs scrambled with butter and spinach
L- tuna salad
D- bangers and celeriac mash (if I prevail)
@BIWI that Greek yogurt with double cream and cinnamon is gorgeous

nowlook · 24/01/2021 09:45

That's ace @MilesJuppIsMyBitch! Bloody well done. My mother's a regular donor to Weightwatchers' coffers. There's a marvellous Victoria Wood song called "Don't Get Cocky" which almost reminds me of them:

"Just take Valerie, wouldn't know a calorie
If it came and bit her on the leg.
Starves all day, and then gives way,
Has eighty bacon butties and a large fried egg"

prettybird · 24/01/2021 09:49

My way of chopping up celeriac for mash is to cut a thick slice with a big knife having remembered to sharpen it first Wink and then, with the slice flat on the board, then roughly chopping off the edges/skin. I then dice that slice. And repeat.

I always boiled the celeriac but when I was making celeriac & cauliflower mash recently, I tried microwaving the celeriac with some butter. It took a long time (4 or 5? blasts of 3 minutes - maybe more) but worked well.

Ninkanink · 24/01/2021 09:53

My daughters got my DH a very fancy Japanese knife for Christmas a couple of years ago and it’s brilliant for chopping celeriac. It slices through a swede (of the vegetable variety, I hasten to add!) like butter!

BIWI · 24/01/2021 09:53

@nowlook

When we had our hall decorated - thankfully by professional decorators! - stripping off the woodchip revealed more layers of woodchip underneath, that had been painted over with gloss paint. It took the decorators so long to get rid of that.

Despite being Edwardian, someone in the 1960s lived here once and removed so many of the original features/decorated it completely out of its character, so we've spent lots of dosh carefully putting things back!

Woodchip and Artex are abominations! (Thankfully all gone now)

NotwatchingSpooks · 24/01/2021 09:55

Morning all, it’s just started to snow here 😀 , I am excited 😆. BIWI I snorted with laughter at your husbands nuts 🥜 enough said.

I’m staying the same on the scales, but as I started at the beginning of Jan I think this is the week 3/4 slowdown. I have been through it before and know that you just have to KOKO. I’m still down 12.5 lbs from the start of the last bootcamp, so that’s what I focus on.

Today
B Greek yogurt with teaspoon double cream
L yesterday’s Bung it in soup
D Roast beef, with roasted green beans and I think some kind of sprout gratin

Ninkanink · 24/01/2021 09:56

@oscarandelliesdad if you have leeks do add them to the mash (I think there’s a recipe on the recipe thread), as it makes it much more mash-like and delicious.

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch that’s the magic of low carb, high fat for you! Especially when you do not cheat. Congratulations, it’s a great feeling to see it working so well.

@nowlook you sound like you’re in a similar house to ours!

BIWI · 24/01/2021 09:58

Yep @oscarandelliesdad - Ninkanink is right. That was one of my discoveries! Somehow adding the leeks changes the texture and makes it much more like potato mash. It's fabulous used on top of shepherd's pie.

nowlook · 24/01/2021 09:58

@BIWI Ha! We have the holy trinity of artex, anaglypta and woodchip. Fortunately, previous owners were so lazy that they didn't remove any original features, merely boarded or papered them. I found another entrance to the cellar!

The walls are all shot to shite and it's going to cost an arm and a leg to put right. Am considering wallpaper again.

ListenLinda · 24/01/2021 10:02

I also had a sneaky step on the scales this morning when getting washed and dressed. They say the same as Thursday but i’m not disheartened as it’s still a good loss.
However, I am going to up the water intake today to see if that helps.

Just done a sainsburys order for tomorrow morning, lots of lovely low carb foods. No pork belly though! Could only get pork loins, I suppose if I fry them in olive oil I could get some fat in that way...

BIWI · 24/01/2021 10:04

Oooh! It's snowing here in SW19!

Ninkanink · 24/01/2021 10:04

@ListenLinda you could make a cream sauce for them which would add some fat.

BIWI · 24/01/2021 10:07

Yes - a lovely creamy mushroom sauce, perhaps?

ListenLinda · 24/01/2021 10:09

@Ninkanink that’s true, i do have a pot of double cream coming tooGrin

Lunch today will be my leftover chicken thighs, skin on, with a huge salad with dressing.
Salmon for tea, possibly with a huge salad again or a FLGV.

NotwatchingSpooks · 24/01/2021 10:09

@nowlook I’ve just asked husband about potential problems from Arsnic paint, he says that you would have to ingest it, so please don’t lick it, or eat it, wear gloves and wash your hands And don’t breathe it in so wear a professional builders mask. Hopefully then the future collective gasps will be as you were planning and hopefully over your beautifully redecorated house.

Bumbledee · 24/01/2021 10:17

@StuntNun thanks. I did have a sachet of diarolyte and a vitamin C dissolvable tablet in water with added salt at 6am. I know Diarolyte is not allowed but that was the only suitable thing available at 6am. I felt a bit better enough to go back to sleep. However the tingling sensation hasn’t gone away completely just not that intense.

I don’t think I am drinking too much water. I struggle to drink more than 2 litres.

If the tingling doesn’t go away in 24hours I’ll phone the GP.

My meals yesterday:

B: Bacon, cheese and spinach omelette
L: leftover Swede and sausage meat pie with salad and olive oil dressing.
D: Roast pork loin with broccoli and asparagus sautéed in butter and two teaspoons of nduja paste. It was delicious. I forgot to check the carb content of the nduja paste but I am hoping two teaspoons won’t add too much but a salty smoky flavour.

I also cheated a bit I mixed two teaspoons of double cream, one spoon of full fat cream cheese and one cube of melted 90% Lindt to make a mousse. It was so rich I could only have a little bit! Sorry @BIWI I think the chocolate cravings finally caught up with me. When I woke up at 3 with the tingling I thought my body is punishing me for the cheating Shock.

nowlook · 24/01/2021 10:19

@NotwatchingSpooks Thank you to you and your DH! That's much more useful than the feedback chez nous ("Don't do anything else until I've checked the insurance") Grin

BIWI · 24/01/2021 10:21

@Bumbledee - don't have the Dioralyte as it has sugar in it.

If you're still experiencing this now, have something salty again - hot Oxo or Bovril or Marmite. Or do as @prettybird does, a glass of water with salt and lemon. Make sure you eat something savoury/salty for breakfast as well.

For now, I'll ignore the cheating! What's more important is to deal with how you feel.

If it doesn't go away after the salt, then yes I think you should talk to your GP.

Bumbledee · 24/01/2021 10:25

Well done @MilesJuppIsMyBitch that’s a great weight loss 😊 your wish may have been fulfilled it’s snowing medium sized flakes in SW London and some of it is settling.

@ListenLinda that is how I ended up with a pork loin roast last night, my pork belly got substituted on my online order.

BIWI · 24/01/2021 10:29

Ooh - we must live near each other @Bumbledee!

BrassicaBabe · 24/01/2021 10:42

Plan for today:
Short run
L: bacon, eggs abs salad
D:cottage pie with celeriac mash on top.

(Bollox, I need to step away from MN boards and all media (main stream and off the beaten tracks type). Scared myself silly this morning. And I don't mean that I'm scared about getting COVID. Need my run now to blow the cobwebs out)

ChristMyArse · 24/01/2021 10:47

@Bumbledee are your neck and shoulders feeling ok?
