@AthelstaneTheUnready I usually use them for slugs, but no need atm. I don't have much kitchen gadgetry (no bread maker, ice cream maker, nutribullet etc), but love a shite gadget Smile

Motivateinmotion · 23/01/2021 21:30

Thanks all for the egg tips!

@Bestbees the pork scratchings we’re because I had forgotten to have lunch so ate them whilst preparing dinner. Don’t think I’ve ever forgotten a meal before!

Motivateinmotion · 23/01/2021 21:34

@ShagMeRiggins what a menu, lucky you!!

Oneborneverydecade · 23/01/2021 21:56

@StuntNun I feel your pain tonight, my DH burnt my sprouts (again) so I ended up with a single chicken breast in sauce. I could have prepared a salad but decided to see if I needed it. V disappointing; I bloody love sprouts

I've had a bad week and I'll be lucky not to gain something Monday. It's entirely down to my lack of will power.

@ShagMeRiggins what a lovely treat

@Lyrata if I wear a crop top on the school run the collective intact of breath is guaranteed but for v different reasons ha. I'm glad your friend was complimentary

BIWI · 23/01/2021 21:58

@nowlook

Exactly! Everyone suffers when there isn't a level playing field (I.e a starter brand says "baking powder"; a corporate giant lists the components: consumer thinks the starter product is more natural). And then there's the issue of allergens. Unfortunately, trading standards are spread thinly these days- it typically takes a consumer/competitor complaint.

Do you miss it?

Nope. I loved it when I was doing it, but just reached a stage when I knew I'd had enough. Love, love, love being retired.
MrsOmelette · 23/01/2021 22:05

@prettybird have you tried white pudding? And there’s fruit pudding of course but that’s definitely not LC! I used to live in Stornoway.

ChristMyArse · 23/01/2021 22:41

Evening all,

Today has been good but not sure I got enough fat in via my meals (?) so upped the cream a bit.

B - avocado, tomato and cucumber salad, olive oil.
Bulletproof coffee.
L - chicken fried in butter and spices on a salad of tomato, lettuce, cabbage and celery mixed in Mayo.
D - 10% Greek yoghurt with a pour of double cream and cinnamon

Dropped 1lb this morning after yo-yoing again. Let's hope I've kept the bastard thing off in the morning!!

Not keen on either white pudding or fruit pudding.

Hello everyone on the new thread. Thanks @ShagMeRiggins !

I’ve just finished reading the thread and have been researching Keto Flu. I woke up at 3AM with pins and needles or tingling sensation on my arms and legs, my mouth is dry as well so I drank two glasses of water. Has anyone had this before on a low carb diet? Or am I coming down with something else? The last time I had this feeling I also had a high fever and was sent to A&E with suspected sepsis, but I have no fever and feel very well other than the tingling and not sleeping. @BIWI any thoughts?

StuntNun · 24/01/2021 06:27

Bumbledee have you got any electrolytes you can take? Or can you put some salt and lemon juice into your water to replace sodium and potassium? Are you drinking a large amount of fluids? Pins and needles in your arms can indicate you need more magnesium. If it's simply an electrolyte imbalance then the salt and lemon water will make you feel a bit better straight away.

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 24/01/2021 07:21

Morning all!

I realised before I went to bed that last night I had dinner at 6ish, then I didn’t eat anything else before bed. We even sat and watched a movie, DH had salted popcorn and I just thought “mmm, that smells nice” and appreciated the smell on its own. No real cravings for snacks. I’m slightly in shock, I’m not sure I can remember ever not having a snack in the evening...

On eggs, my top tip is to steam them instead of boiling them. We have chickens, so have really fresh eggs. It’s virtually impossible to peel a fresh egg neatly if you boil it, whereas if you steam the shells come off super easily.

Before we had a fresh egg supply, this was my favourite kitchen gadget - poach pouches! www.lakeland.co.uk/12116/Poachpod-Silicone-Egg-Poaching-Pods---Pack-of-2?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx_Ky_4O07gIVk7PtCh1jYQPdEAQYASABEgJnufD_BwE&src=gfeed&s_kwcid=AL!49!3!456457690750!!!g!!&ef_id=EAIaIQobChMIx_Ky_4O07gIVk7PtCh1jYQPdEAQYASABEgJnufD_BwE:G:s

nowlook · 24/01/2021 07:52

Morning all!

Have just read Jay Rayner's Sunday column about Great British Classics by Gary Rhodes. There's a smoked haddock rarebit which sounds amazing- could work well with subs for the plain flour and breadcrumbs. Has anyone tried it before? I imagine a few of you have the book!

I would never have thought to steam eggs, @Justcallmecaptainobvious!

Onelittlepiglet · 24/01/2021 07:55

Wow I go away for a day and we are on to a new thread!

@Motivateinmotion I also struggle shelling eggs! Will try some of these tips.

@Justcallmecaptainobvious the poaching pods are great! I used to have avocado on toast with poached eggs and they were amazing. Now I just don’t have the toast and add butter and more green things!

I’m still staying the same weight every day which is a bit annoying. I ate well yesterday with a big bowl of creamy green veg soup and cheese for lunch, and for dinner a lovely salad with avocado and chicken with a Chinese five slice rub on it. Lots and lots of water too!

Today will be
B - Greek yoghurt plus a little cream
L - bacon, scrambled eggs and spinach (also possibly avocado if it is ripe)
D - chicken in some kind of sauce and cauliflower rice plus some broccoli.

Will keep everything crossed the scales go down tomorrow (but I doubt they will 🙁)

Bestbees · 24/01/2021 08:17

With you there @Onelittlepiglet I am basically staying the same. But koko and hoping things will start moving. I don't have much to lose so that makes it harder I think. I will prob need to do some calorie restriction, maybe just during the week to help me not over do it.

Snow here today so very excited children jn the garden whilst I am curled up with a coffee in bed! Husband made pancakes but not tempted.

Food for today:
B ham and butter sandwich with lettuce leaf bread
L courgette and tomato gratin @BIWI I can have Toms right?
D roast turkey (left overs from Christmas!) sprouts, cauli cheese.

StuntNun · 24/01/2021 08:22

I steam my eggs as well; it's much more reliable than boiling them. You can buy dedicated egg steaming racks or use a fan steamer. I get the water boiling then add the eggs, put the lid on and time for exactly 7 minutes for large room temperature eggs, or 9 minutes for my children who prefer a hard yolk. Then at the end of the time I run them under the cold tap briefly to stop them cooking and stop me from burning my fingers peeling them. If I'm going to eat them later cold then I leave them under the cold tap for longer then put them in the fridge. The yolks stay squidgy so you can have a "hard boiled egg" with a soft yolk. I always steam a couple extra so I can have two in the fridge for a snack or a quick lunch in a salad. Very few things fill you up better than a boiled egg when you're peckish. Sometimes I mix a little curry powder into mayonnaise and dollop on top for a cheats devilled eggs.

PseudoBadger · 24/01/2021 08:24

Found you all!

ShagMeRiggins · 24/01/2021 08:41

Hi PseudoBadger sorry about that. The last thread had no room to post a link.

Well I think my scientific experiment has paid off. (2-3lbs on each weekend that took til thurs/Friday to shift only to start again the following weekend). I setup a mental camera on my Saturday like people with sleep disorders do only to find it's the cat or dog that keep waking them up Grin). It's not my long run. It's not my doner kebab meat. But it would appear that in previous Saturdays I've pinched rather more of the kids left over chips than I was admitting to myself!! BlushBlush Last night no chips and my weight stayed the same. I am Columbo!

prettybird · 24/01/2021 09:12

BIWI will be along soon to say, "See, you can't cheat on this WoE" Grin

venusandmars · 24/01/2021 09:15

Thanks shag for breaking the rules and creating a new thread.

My bloody scales are playing up! I hadn't weighed for a couple of days (and because I often seem lower on a Sunday than a Monday) I stepped on them this morning to find I was a miraculous 2 pounds down. However, I KNOW this is not at all likely. It doesn't fit with my post-menopausal gradual, slow, ounce-by-ounce loss.

I moved the scales around the house. Still exactly the same figure. So I put on thick pj trousers and my heavy slippers. Back up to 0.2 of a pound off. Took off slippers and pjs and the bastard scales stayed the same. Off to find new batteries in the hope that will fix it.

B - creamy coffee
L - left over cauli-rice kedgeree with spinach and fried eggs
D - slow cooked pork with broccoli, leeks and fried mushrooms

BIWI · 24/01/2021 09:19

Glad that your camera worked @BrassicaBabe!

My own was realising, when the scales were unaccountably up yesterday morning, that without thinking I'd been helping myself to DH's nuts. Blush. You'd think I'd know better by now!

Anyway, normal service is resumed now - just annoyed about that day's blip.

BIWI · 24/01/2021 09:21

I realise that sounds very rude Grin

prettybird · 24/01/2021 09:24
Grin
PseudoBadger · 24/01/2021 09:30

No problems @ShagMeRiggins - I was just being lazy in my place marking comment really! Thanks for starting the thread
