Week 2 - May '18 Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

I love this week, seeing how much weight people lose, and especially as it's always such a surprise for newbies and those who feared that this WOE wouldn't work!

I hope you've all seen good results.

If you haven't - don't despair, but have a think about the week just gone. Look at what you were eating/drinking and consider how well you followed Bootcamp rules.

Any problems, as ever, post them on the thread.

I think I'll broadly follow BC, but allow myself a tablespoon of my homemade granola (almonds, walnuts, linseed, desiccated coconut roasted in coconut oil then cooled) on my breakfast Greek yoghurt as I've really missed the crunchy texture. I'll also let myself have some oppo ice cream at last, with a strawberry or two! As long as I'm still losing 1-2lb a week I'm happy, if it stalls I'll revert to BC.

MrsBertBibby · 26/05/2018 17:05

I suspect I will stay mainly full BC as I find it much easier to have blanket bans than do stuff in moderation.

GF is rotten for kids, it really is.

Luckily he really loves rice. So I’m thinking he’ll just eat a lot of rice. And potatoes. I’ll just have the meat, dairy and veg that goes with it.

He likes corn tortillas too, so I’m going to order some GF ones. That can do whenever he’s having sandwiches etc.

We’re not finding GF bread great at all. So I think you’re right that we’d be best off avoiding it as much as possible.

Luckily he really liked GF tamari (as we eat a lot of food with soy sauce in it).

He will get used to it. As you say, he’ll probably forget what gluten-y food actually tastes like after a while.

DramaAlpaca · 26/05/2018 17:33

I will be sticking with boot camp next week too.

MrsBertBibby · 26/05/2018 17:34

You're lucky! Our GF diner also has the true autistic narrow diet and texture sensitivity, so not much to work with. Although he is getting more adventurous at last.

The GF bread is truly vile to my taste, although he now eats it happily. It definitely isn't that the bread has improved!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 26/05/2018 17:37

Dinner is spicy lamb kofta, cucumber raita, tomato salsa and spinach. lovely!!

I also intend to carry on as i have been next week especially if i have still failed to lose anything this week. i avoid chocolate anyway as it is a real greed trigger for me and i barely drink since my pregnancy anyway. i will continue with occational berries and nuts as i have been though. nothing nicer then a spoon of really good peanut butter as a snack.

strangely i find myself very untempted to go off plan. i like myself more when i do this, i feel more diciplined, more content that i'm doing something about my weight.

i have to keep reminding myself however, how i will feel if i eat something off plan as i know i will regret it within seconds.

Im am also GF. very mixed on the quality of bread but i have found genius (specifically the seeded one) bread is decent. it has certainly improved in the last few years since i became GF.

Sainsburies do a half sliced loaf which is good too. cant remember the brand it maybe own brand.

oldbirdy · 26/05/2018 17:40

Hi all. After the week from hell I had vodka last night, but back on the wagon today.
We are off to a pizzeria tonight (not my choice!) They do pizza and pasta mainly, but they do do aubergine parmigiana, it has pine nuts but is otherwise aubergine, tomatoes, oil and cheese, ight that be a good choice? Otherwise it's another salad for me! I have offered to drive so as to stay off the wine.
I am going to note down some of these recipes. I have a lot to lose so like others, intend to stay full bc for now.

Twoo · 26/05/2018 18:18

I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s posts, very inspiring.

I have stuck to fullbc rules for the past 2 weeks. Lost a 1lb the first week (weight had been up and down all that week) and this week I initially lost weight (another 1lb) to now find I’m up 2lb.

Me thinks I’m going to have to ration coffee with double cream Grin

Wishing you all a great lchf bank holiday weekend. Koko la Vida.

AromaticSpices · 26/05/2018 18:28

I ate some chilli tonight for dinner with my little girl, I picked out the kidney beans but some haricot beans remained. Not ideal but I had zero inspiration to cook and this was in the fridge already defrosted from a batch I made about a month ago.

Lunch was egg mayonnaise (about two tablespoons worth), cucumber, and one cherry tomato. Small slice of cheese.

I need to do a long walk tonight but DH is away and the treadmill is covered in —DH’s— crap that’ll take an age to move! Gah.

UnimaginativeUsername · 26/05/2018 18:41

@MrsBertBibby That must be hard. DS2 isn’t too bad as 8 year olds go - but yes still too much of a vegetable refuser.

Thanks for the recommendation @Iamnotacerealkiller. Unfortunately DS2 won’t consider seeded bread. Maybe he will relent once he’s had a taste of the alternatives.

My dinner was lovely. I really enjoyed my salad and chicken - and I got most of the skin. Grin I’ve decided that I will drink my water out of a wine glass tonight, to feel more special than a plastic breaker.

MrsBertBibby · 26/05/2018 18:47

Our lad likes the brown Genius loaf, he also won't touch the seeded.

It's all sorted now, it was some years ago he first had to go GF. But it was tough all round at the start, so sympathies!

Seafour · 26/05/2018 19:18

I've had a better day today, breathing is better so less time attached to the ventilator. A bit of detective work has found a possible source of infection so antibiotics started and I feel a lot better.
Stupidly it would appear that at some point this week my catheter strap was far too tight and will have been that way for about 12 hours so I have a pressure wound at the top of my leg. It's hot to the touch and really angry looking, Luckily we have an armoury of dressings for just such events. We've been to the hospital and HDU are happy with oral antibiotics and a repeat chest X-ray tomorrow and Monday just in case, they are fabulous and I'm really grateful we can just phone and turn up knowing we will never be turned away.

Anyway we went for a canal walk with the dog late afternoon and had some tapas for a very late lunch.
DH is making Thai green curry and I've been able to drink loads of water today. Back on the ventilator now, will come off for dinner and have an early night.

ilovecherries · 26/05/2018 19:34

I've never really come off full B/C since starting a year ago. Very occasionally I will have a few berries or a home made chocolate Brazil with 100% chocolate, but I've found it easier to just embrace it and never even think about 'other stuff' now. I don't make LC 'treats' like cakes or puddings as I find them quite triggering - I don't even like to talk about them if I'm honest. I know it helps some people to have those options, but it's not for me. Never drink alcohol now either, which I DO sometimes miss.

UnimaginativeUsername · 26/05/2018 19:44

Glad today has been better @Seafour.

Laska5772 · 26/05/2018 19:53

Sadly I have had migraine most of today. I hardly ever get these since menopause but its probably due to air pressur today. LC Breakfast of eggs didnt stay down sadly so i went back to bed and slept a lot of today . Luckily DH here to entertain troops and they went out I got up to make Ottelenghis turkey and courgette meatballs ( these are brilliant btw) with mozzarella for guests when they got back but I couldnt eat more than one.
Back in bed with mint tea. Just feel washed out . Today is the first time for ages i just feel I would like fizzy drink like a lemonade but havent just had herb tea instead .Hopefully i 'll be better tomorrow . Theres supposed to be a storm tonight.

Seafour · 26/05/2018 20:09

Laska I hope you feel better soon Thanks

NorthernKnickers · 26/05/2018 20:50

Hope you feel better soon @Laska5772 💐

itchyknees · 26/05/2018 20:59

Evening all! I just had a look at the spread sheet and there are some massive massive losses! It’s very inspiring!

I’ve got more energy, for sure. The house has never been as tidy and it’s all calm now, the kids are in bed and husband is out and it was nice to cook properly without having to think what the kids will eat.

I tried marinated cauliflower steaks. They look like a slice of brain. They were alright I suppose, I’m not eating a huge amount of veg so it was one way to get me veggies in.

My muffin top is more of a fairy cake, and as of this morning after a big wee, I was down 11 pounds! Hoping for a teeny bit more for official weigh in day on Monday.

AromaticSpices · 26/05/2018 21:41

I’ve eaten too much. I ate a bowl of chilli with DD and after she’d gone to bed I was on autopilot and bored and put leftovers from last nights cauli/brocc cheese in the microwave and ate it, followed by yoghurt and 5 raspberries which I’d safely been ignoring. Nothing off plan apart from the berries but I feel uncomfortable and full and can feel heartburn lurking. Having a herbal tea and hoping an early night with a hot water bottle will sort me out

prettybird · 26/05/2018 22:09

I had a half-planned 24 hour fast (ended up being "just" 23 hours Wink). Had plenty of HFLC snacks in case I did feel hungry - but I never did! Grin

Broke my fast with chicken breasts stuffed with Boursin and wrapped in Serrano ham, baked with some olive oil, lemon juice and garlic cloves. Served with asparagus microwaved in butter (and with the cooking juices of Boursinny lemony oil poured over them)

Yummy Smile

Dh had a glass or two of a really good South African Chenin. I had a sip - just a sip - of his glass to remind myself how good it is Halo. I did ask that he keep the rest of the bottle until Monday night so that I can have some then.

Lots of water over the day Halo

Titsywoo · 26/05/2018 22:27

I'm down another 2.5 since Monday so 9.75lb off in 12 days! Obviously I'm sure that will go up and down over the next few days but I've lost a couple of inches so it's going the right way! Saturday is always a rubbish day for me and I had booze last weekend and had a couple of glasses today but other than that am on plan.

L: Halloumi fries with garlic mayo
D: Burger with cheese and bacon plus salad
S: Pulled pork

Not enough veg today but I'll make up for it tomorrow! As I say Saturday is a shit day for me as I'm always so busy.

itchyknees · 26/05/2018 22:28

I thought LC was about not having to fast?

OrlandaFuriosa · 26/05/2018 22:29

Genius isn’t awful as GF; there’s another which isn’t bad either. Thecrest are dire.

But have you tried making US cornbread, johnnycake? I know kids on the spectrum find new tastes and textures tough but just possibly the fact this is true coyboy stuff from the southern states might help. It’s not brilliant as sandwich bread, it is brilliant as a filler, to have things on as open sandwich, to dunk. It doesn’t take long. All the recipes I can see use flour as well and, to my surprise, honey/sugar. Dems not de way I was taught. Just straight cornmeal, as in polenta. But I’ve included one with the additives...obv you could add cheese or olives or cheese and chillis or raisins or whatever.

oldbirdy · 26/05/2018 22:31

Well, I have had a strange day food wise.
Started with a sweet omelette of tofu fried in butter with an egg whisked with a drop of vanilla essence, and a spoonful of extra thick double cream.
Then we went out for the day for my DC's birthday. Lunch was a ham salad with mayo, and water, and coleslaw, but the coleslaw had grated carrot in.
Evening meal at loc Italian place: garlic mushrooms cooked in butter, and aubergine parmigiana with rocket and parmesan. No balsamic, drank sparkling water and had a coffee with cream instead of pudding. So I hope not too bad.
Had vodka at home though.

Weekends are a lot harder than weekdays!
