Week 1 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - Are you ready?!

BIWI · 11/10/2015 22:44

Evening all!

I'm starting the chat thread a little early, because I have to be at work at sparrow's fart tomorrow.

So here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, created and curated by the very lovely SayrraT

You don't have to add your weight - but you can also be on the spreadsheet without entering your actual weight. If you want, you can index it - which means that you start at 100. For every pound that you lose, lose a point. So if you lose 4lbs in week one, then you'll start week 2 at 96.

Have a good look at the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet, as there is all sorts of really important information there - not least of which is Bootcamp rules.

If you haven't done Bootcamp before, I'd suggest that you print off the rules and stick them somewhere that you'll see them regularly. In addition, I'd also suggest that you print off the list of vegetables and their carb counts.

If you have any particular questions, the questions thread is here - it's often the case that the chat thread moves so quickly in the early weeks that questions can easily get missed.

And don't forget the recipe thread! There are loads of lovely recipes on here - the thread is almost full, but there's still room for any more low carb recipes you might want to add.

Above all, good luck to you all. Bootcamp is designed to be simple and straightforward, but it isn't easy. If you have any problems, or think things aren't working, please come and chat about it here.

Well the first day has gone to pot Confused

I'm full of the flu and forgot at lunch Blush today will be better ,!!

InternationalEspionage · 13/10/2015 05:16

I started a bit early (Friday) as not done lcbootcamp before but have done vlcd and find I'm so tired and hungry days 2 and 3 that bed and baths are best way to cope until ketosos kicks in Blush with that only being a weekend option for me.

This time, I've had zero hunger but absolute shocking pumping migraine (full blown with light sensitivity and nausea). 3 days solid.

Happy to report that now on day 5 I've recovered with the help of paracetamol and berocca (sugar free) to boost my magnesium levels a tiny bit. I can also sense a little hum in my body which I get when in ketosis, but just moved to a strange new land and can't find any ketostix to do fun testing with.

Biwi and Sayra: Thanks so much for setting this up, I really needed a push to get going Flowers

BIWI · 13/10/2015 06:43

You don't need ketostix!

If you're drinking the amount of water that you should be, then there will be minimum change in the colour as all the ketones will be so diluted.

Honestly - if you just trust the rules, you will be fine!

And beware, Berocca contains artificial sweeteners, which we're trying to avoid on Bootcamp. You'd be far better getting your nutrients (and electrolytes) from food.

Really good Bootcamp (and carb flu avoidance!) foods are:

salt - cook with it/add it to your food; try drinking a hot drink made from Oxo, Bovril and/or Marmite

For magnesium and potassium - salmon, avocado, potassium and full fat natural yoghurt.

Maryz - if you find the first two weeks of Bootcamp doable, why not just stick to Bootcamp? It seems like the relaxation is something you can't cope with, so just be ultra strict. Grin

Morning, one of the things I love about LCing is my morning coffee. I used to have a coffee pod latte, but this is even better.
All prepared for another day. I suspect the times I go off piste will be when I haven't prepped.
B - egg and avocado again
L - tuna and olive salad
D - not sure, salmon with hm tartare sauce and roasted veg, probably.

SayrraT · 13/10/2015 08:00

Just signing in and recording my food Smile

Sorry that the spreadsheet isn't working for some of you Sad I don't have an iPad or tablet of any sort so I am afraid I can't work out what is wrong.

On the spreadsheet please DO NOT type anything in any of the blue cells, this is where the formulae are which make the calculations work

Food Today

B: Coffee with cream and left over fat head pizza
L: Same as yesterday
S: FF yogurt
D: Courgetti with meatballs

Palomb · 13/10/2015 08:15

I weighed this morning 12st 6.5lb.
Onwards and downwards!

CantSee4Looking · 13/10/2015 08:53

Sorry not had chance to read the thread. Life has conspired. Yesterday was pretty very shocking.

Breakfast: 1 cup coffee, 1 hard boiled egg and 1 soft boiled egg (both were supposed to be soft boiled but yep, life happens), mountain of pretty little tablets meds and vit supplements can you hear me rattle when I jump yet? Grin

CantSee4Looking · 13/10/2015 08:54

thanks for all your spreadsheet work as ever, it is hugely appreciated.

BIWI · 13/10/2015 08:59

Sorry all - I was going to have a go with my iPad and see if I could work out the problem, but didn't have the chance last night. Was at work from 7.30am and didn't get home till after 7pm - after I'd had dinner (just two roasted chicken thighs with mayo as that was all I could face) I was in bed by 9.30pm!

Will see if I can have a go tonight.

Hi everyone! I actually started a week ago and somehow managed to lose 12lb in my first week! I do have a lot to lose but I think this woe is definitely working for me!

I have put my Mon12th weight in the spreadsheet. I am not expecting to lose much, if anything this week, after such a massive loss last week.

Meals yesterday were a bit odd as I am working long days and tend to have 2 lunches- but I missed my second break so missed my second lunch too.
B- FF yoghurt
L- celery sticks with blue cheese, some olives
D- omelette cooked in butter with spinach, avocado and coleslaw
S- pork scratchings

Have to go shopping this morning for the week, so I'm not sure what I'll be eating today, but dinner will involve beef mince, got some defrosting.

theveryhighlife · 13/10/2015 09:28

I think yesterday went ok ,
B - chicken
L - pork belly with veg
D - bolognaise
S - small amount of cheese
Today should be ok, but weds, thurs, fri I'm on a work course/exams down in London and will be staying in a hotel :-/ I think this may make things a bit more tricky!

LexLoofah · 13/10/2015 10:41

Maryz for the first bootcamp DH and I did back in Jan we did BC the full 10 weeks as knew we could not trust ourselves on light after just 2 weeks. It might be worth doing BC for as long as you can before switching to light as we are the same at being a bit too relaxed. Now we do light (and a bit of off piste for special occasions) in-between boot camps and so far that has worked for us. Stick with the thread, keep on posting, you can get over the mid-bootcamp hump I promise. It is easier when you see the results on the scales and your clothes as that motivates you to keep on going.

Whoever posted yesterday about cream in tea, I agree that is yuck except if it is chai tea, rather nice in that. I have acquired a taste for almond milk in tea (the unsweetened one you have to be careful which one you buy - speaking from learning the hard way) and not in regular tea but v nice in earl grey. Also peppermint tea is a good way to have a hot drink and get your fluids in.

glenthebattleostrich · 13/10/2015 12:36

Hi everyone

Food for today

B - Greek yogurt
L - chicken, tomato, cucumber, pork scratching, cheese
T - probably lamb with green beans and asparagus

Struggling on the water today, need to get my pint glass out

glenthebattleostrich · 13/10/2015 12:45

Forgot my 2 chai tea with cream and coconut oil

It is delicious. I now drink regular tea with cream too, it has to be very strong but is yum

CalmYoBadSelf · 13/10/2015 13:09

It was me with the tea and cream comment. Thanks for the suggestions.
I like good old-fashioned builders tea and didn't like it with cream last time I tried but I might try again with very strong tea. If I hate it though I guess the couple of splashes of milk I have in a couple of cups of tea would not be the end of the world (particularly as I have a huge amount of weight to lose so should have a bit more leeway)

I bought some reduced meat in Tesco yesterday and one item was some little quick fry steaks so I have had one of those with mushroom and scrambled eggs for breakfast. I've only ever had steak for breakfast before in Cape Town back in the 1980s so it really took me back!

AndTheBandPlayedOn · 13/10/2015 13:39

Hello all,
I did ok yesterday...I still need to keep an eye on portions, yes, even with salad. The avocados and olives are not exactly low calorie food so I think that is where I have a struggle with the scales.
Exercise yesterday turned out to be a marathon of yard work. We have plugged a slope of our yard with Zoysia grass and the rains from Juaquin (6") nearly washed it out. So I was on hands and knees patting in replacement soil, installing an erosion control blanket, and going back over it all cutting holes in the blanket for each plug. My pedometer watch logged 9735 steps on the day Wink . Today, I really need to stretch my back out, so will do a Yoga DVD.

Sorry this post isn't so much about food.
B-eggs, mushrooms and cheese
L-celery sticks with tuna and mayo
D-meatza
S-large dill pickle, baby bel if needed.

LexLoofah · 13/10/2015 13:52

B - 2 streaky bacon, 2 fried eggs, shrooms in butter, cuppa, coffee with cream
L - out at a cafe, had cajun salmon incl the skin, salad with herby mayo- just asked for extra salad instead of the accompanying carbs
D will be cauli pepperoni pizza

Kleptronic · 13/10/2015 13:52

I weighed 11st 3lb last Thursday, having BC'd since the last one with weekend carb days.

I went to a music festival Fri, drank lots of cider, ate pizza, sanwiches and Chinese food, came back Mon night. 11st 9lb this morning. Aaaaarrrggh!

Please let most of it be water, please let most of it be water...

Huntthepigsear · 13/10/2015 14:27

Kleptronic most of it will be water, don't worry about it. Just get back to the LCing.
I'm loving reading about all the meals on here that people are having. As a LC virgin, it's giving me lots of ideas. Grin

Palomb · 13/10/2015 14:30

Regarding tea.. I drink maybe 8 cups of tea every day with a splash of skimmed milk in and have never had it affect my weigh loss or ketosis (I use sticks)

Tea is one of those things I cannot compromise on Blush

Wombatinabathhat · 13/10/2015 17:15

debka That's a FANTASTIC loss in one week. Well done Flowers
There are sweet things everywhere at work. I've refused but people keep nagging 'just have one' or 'a bit won't harm you' Confused
I feel very virtuous for standing firm without feeling the need to explain myself [halo emoticon]

B ham and hm mayo, decaf coffee with cream
L: hm chicken curry with courgette
D: pork chop, fried egg and a good quality sausage {it's a one off}

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/10/2015 17:18

B: Lidl ff Greek yoghurt
L: Chicken and avocado salad
Snacks: Rather a lot of Lidl Polish sausage things Blush They are too delicious with little lumps of fat in them.

D: Slow-cooker pork with either roasted dark green squash or fried Savoy cabbage.

Wombatinabathhat · 13/10/2015 17:21

Oh and snack of hm pork crackling
