Week 1 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - Are you ready?!

BIWI · 11/10/2015 22:44

Evening all!

I'm starting the chat thread a little early, because I have to be at work at sparrow's fart tomorrow.

So here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, created and curated by the very lovely SayrraT

You don't have to add your weight - but you can also be on the spreadsheet without entering your actual weight. If you want, you can index it - which means that you start at 100. For every pound that you lose, lose a point. So if you lose 4lbs in week one, then you'll start week 2 at 96.

Have a good look at the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet, as there is all sorts of really important information there - not least of which is Bootcamp rules.

If you haven't done Bootcamp before, I'd suggest that you print off the rules and stick them somewhere that you'll see them regularly. In addition, I'd also suggest that you print off the list of vegetables and their carb counts.

If you have any particular questions, the questions thread is here - it's often the case that the chat thread moves so quickly in the early weeks that questions can easily get missed.

And don't forget the recipe thread! There are loads of lovely recipes on here - the thread is almost full, but there's still room for any more low carb recipes you might want to add.

Above all, good luck to you all. Bootcamp is designed to be simple and straightforward, but it isn't easy. If you have any problems, or think things aren't working, please come and chat about it here.

3 reasons why bulletproof coffee is a bad idea

OP posts:
whitershadeofpale · 12/10/2015 17:55

Ok thanks for the head's up biwi Smile

CalmYoBadSelf · 12/10/2015 18:34

B: 3 egg omelette, tea with a little milk (I know but I can't manage cream in tea so just have a splash)
L: Tinned salmon mixed with mayo on cucumber slices
T: Pork chop with courgette and a few carrot noodles tossed in avocado pesto (blend avocado flesh till smooth with a spoonful of pesto, makes a lovely creamy dressing)

Meal plan for the week has gone awry already as you can see. Got to Tesco and they had loads of reduced meats so I couldn't resist

ijustwanttobeme · 12/10/2015 18:46

Ok, so today I've had:

B: Greek yoghurt, a Pret egg and salmon protein pot and a coffee
L: M&S chicken fillet pieces (Best I could do, as was travelling today and forgot to prepare at home)
D: chicken and avocado salad

Will also you tube some exercise vids tonight, to do in my hotel room tonight.

Good luck to everyone. Looking forward to coming out at the other end (what's the end date btw?) slimmer, healthier and happier Grin

regenerationfez · 12/10/2015 19:04

I had tuna mayo in a lettuce wrap for lunch and a pork chop with roasted aubergine and courgette in a cream sauce. I swear I read mustard was lc but when I read the ingredients after I had some with my chop I realised it wasn't!
I'm struggling with the water though! I have to drink 3 litres! I have a 500ml bottle and filed it twice, as well as about 3mugs of herbal tea and I was struggling. I'll try and guzzle some more before bed!

Billionnairewannabe · 12/10/2015 19:21

Day 1 completed! Think I've (mostly) stuck to the BC rules but been reading so many threads I'm tying myself in knots (wishful thinking at my weight). So... Breakfast total yoghurt & black coffee Lunch - pancetta omelette with lettuce & Mayo Dinner - Shepherds pie with swede mash & cauliflower.
Feeling quite virtuous (if no slimmer yet). I haven't felt hungry but do miss something to crunch on (like a biscuit!) - any suggestions please? Also I keep seeing people having homemade coleslaw but couldn't find it on the recipe thread. Any links please? But well done everyone & thanks for the motivation!!Smile

Patapouf · 12/10/2015 19:22

Hi all! I'm so relieved BC is back my weight has yoyo'd a lot since the last BC ended. Haven't weighed yet but I think I'm up 5lbs on my finish weight from the May BC due to TOTM.
I've been going through cycles of LCing for a week and then falling off the wagon and taking a few days to get back into it. As a result I've lost and gained the same half stone all summer.

B: total yog
L: m&s egg and spinach protein pot
D: pork ribs and celeriac fries

Tomorrow will be:
B: devilled eggs
L: bolognese with courgetti
D: duck breast with swede mash and some other veg

Patapouf · 12/10/2015 19:24

Oops omitted the coffee with soy milk I had this morning. I get really bad headaches when I don't have caffeine so I need to wean myself off which is going to be painful coupled with carb flu.

BestIsWest · 12/10/2015 19:35

Google sheets doesn't work with the spreadsheet on my iPad so I'll dig out my laptop later.

CharlieSierra · 12/10/2015 19:44

Hello all, so glad to be back. I didn't weigh this morning because I was scared late. Very motivated though and have had a great first day. I'm a bit concerned though that I found out this morning I have to go to Paris at the end of the week, which is not ideal so early on.

B - Avocado
L - Chicken salad with olive oil dressing
D - Fillet steak, mushrooms in butter, green bean fries and a dollop of hm mayo for dipping.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 12/10/2015 20:06

Evening all. Haven't put in numbers yet as laptop in car and it's cold out now (wuss).
Also had to change lunch to cold chicken thighs alone as avocado was possibly the hardest avo known to man. Thinking of selling to Army to use as weapon of mass destruction.
I'm on for this!

PseudoBadger · 12/10/2015 20:16

I posted this morning but it didn't appear - no idea why?
Breakfast - 2 eggs scrambled with cream
Lunch - cream of veg (cabbage, leeks, celery, shallots) and ham soup
Dinner - IPD butter chicken currently
in progress (using chicken thighs)
Snacks - cucumber chunk, cheddar spread with butter

Plenty of water
3 coffees with cream as DD woke at 4am BlushAngry

Kleptronic · 12/10/2015 20:21

Hello all. I'm starting tomorrow as I came back from holiday today. I have been low carbing ever since the last bootcamp but am resolutely plateaued. I really want to lose that last stone so I'm hoping this BC will do it.

BIWI · 12/10/2015 20:33

Billionaire

Coleslaw:

125g white cabbage (less than 1/4 of a cabbage)
75g carrot (1 medium-sized carrot)
25g shallot (1/2 a banana/echalion shallot)

Slice white cabbage thinly
Grate carrot finely (don't use the largest holes on the grater)
Chop shallot finely

Add oil and wine vinegar - roughly 3 tablespoons oil and 1 tablespoon vinegar, and salt and black pepper. Stir everything well together. Leave for half an hour or so. Just before serving, stir in a tablespoon of mayo.

This will make 2 portions

regeneration - what kind of mustard were you using? I think that - unless you were dolloping great tablespoons on your food - the amount of sugar in it would be negligible.

Hi ladies,

Thanks for the new BC and first thread, Biwi!

Weighed this morning - four pounds up on lowest weight in July, definitely a result of dark chocolate creep and probably too much cheese! BC will get me back on track, I hope.

Good luck everyone, and if you get the dreaded carb flu in the next few days, stick it outFlowers.

Children - I do no added sugars at all; low GI; and otherwise aim for the mixed plate, which is some carbs but not carb- based meals. This is hard particularly when I am tired. DS will eat a whole range of food but loves pasta (and it does make him a little chubby) so I am probably going to just stop buying it. DD is fussy, and would quite happily survive on toast and bananas! She does not seem to gain weight in the same way DS does.

Now43 · 12/10/2015 21:02

i weighed myself this morning but can't edit the spreadsheet so for my benefit here I'm 152 lb.

I've managed my first day okay, but craving something sweet. Might have to go to the shops tomorrow and get a few things. Can't believe I hadn't thought about pork scratchings!

readyforno2 · 12/10/2015 21:16

Hi everyone!
Hope the first week goes well for you all, I'm currently in Spain so will start next Monday. Not got great wifi so may struggle to stay on. Will keep an eye on the thread while I can. I've managed to convince dh to join me next week too.. We will need it after this week!

ShebaQueen · 12/10/2015 21:19

Thanks for the shiny new thread BIWI and also SarryaT for the spreadsheet, have added my weight. Have been bootcamping since April but only lite over the summer, losing about 0.5-1lb a week which I am happy with, I'm 15lbs off my goal weight. Looking forward to getting some new recipe ideas Smile Good luck everyone, we can do this!

BestIsWest · 12/10/2015 21:39

So, eggs and butter for breakfast, chicken salad with an oily dressing for lunch, 95% pork sausages with cabbage, leeks and spinach with butter for dinner. 1 coffee with cream, 1 small dish Greek yog and a very small piece of cheese.
1 more glass of water before bed.

Huntthepigsear · 12/10/2015 22:03

Sayrrah yes, I managed to edit the spreadsheet on my iPad, thanks. Seems others haven't been so successful though.
Had a hectic day, so only just sitting down now. We had spinach and chicken curry with cauliflower rice for dinner. I'd not tried the cauli rice before, but both DH and I really liked it. DH said he would do low carb-ish with me. Not sure how low carb the choc chip muffin he had earlier was Confused He has got a lot bit of a beer belly, so could do with joining me.
Anyone else got a Fitbit? I have and try to do my 10,000 steps a day but often not been quite doing it. I'm pleased that I have succeeded for the last 3 days, so I want to keep that up, too.

fluffywol · 12/10/2015 22:39

Well my first day didn't quite go to plan. Breakfast and lunch were no problem; scrambled eggs with butter and cream for lunch, cold roast beef with salad and mayonnaise for lunch. Then I got a migraine late afternoon and couldn't eat anything else. I'm just recovering now, but if I eat anything substantial this late I'll get heartburn, so I've made do with a couple of tablespoons of Greek yoghurt and a herb tea. Oh, well, tomorrow is another day, so I'll KOKO!

regenerationfez · 12/10/2015 23:05

Biwi It was Tescos French mustard. It was only a teaspoon mixed into cream. Maybe that's OK then- I have leftovers of it for lunch tomorrow so hope soGrin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 12/10/2015 23:08

Made it! Wasn't hungry at all. The homemade crackling was the most divine thing ever. I had a monster portion of bolognese because it's really hard to tell how much you've put in a plastic tub (was working late). May have eaten too much, but it was all low-carb.

I had 3 cups of tea with splashes of milk and approx 3 litres of water.

Kazzawazzawo0 · 12/10/2015 23:13

Thanks BIWI, I'm in.
