Week 1 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - Are you ready?!

Evening all!

I'm starting the chat thread a little early, because I have to be at work at sparrow's fart tomorrow.

So here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, created and curated by the very lovely SayrraT

You don't have to add your weight - but you can also be on the spreadsheet without entering your actual weight. If you want, you can index it - which means that you start at 100. For every pound that you lose, lose a point. So if you lose 4lbs in week one, then you'll start week 2 at 96.

Have a good look at the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet, as there is all sorts of really important information there - not least of which is Bootcamp rules.

If you haven't done Bootcamp before, I'd suggest that you print off the rules and stick them somewhere that you'll see them regularly. In addition, I'd also suggest that you print off the list of vegetables and their carb counts.

If you have any particular questions, the questions thread is here - it's often the case that the chat thread moves so quickly in the early weeks that questions can easily get missed.

And don't forget the recipe thread! There are loads of lovely recipes on here - the thread is almost full, but there's still room for any more low carb recipes you might want to add.

Above all, good luck to you all. Bootcamp is designed to be simple and straightforward, but it isn't easy. If you have any problems, or think things aren't working, please come and chat about it here.

I've had a reasonable couple of days, although work has been a major issue this week - in a way that's helped to keep me focused though.

Mon/Tues was at my desk by 7.30 and last night didn't get home from work until after 11pm. This morning was on an 8am train out of Kings Cross, so up at 5.55am.

Have been very protein-heavy and not really enough fat, and a bit more dairy than I wanted to have (but I really have needed those cups of coffee Grin)

Glad to see positive results so far/so early, glen!

Hot choc for bc lite: Use your one or two squares dark choc allowance. Warm cream and water in equal measures, pour over chopped choc, stir it up. V good occasionally, I should try cocoa now I am losing my sweet tooth

BIWI · 14/10/2015 10:43

But not in the first two weeks of Bootcamp, LexLoofah!!!

LexLoofah · 14/10/2015 12:10

biwi yep in bc lite as stated sorry if I got anyone too excited.

The twinings nutty choc tea with almond milk is not bad as an alternative, a bit choccy and a bit creamy and a bit pricey so seems like an occasional treat won't become a 5 cup a day habit

AStoneBeforeChristmas · 14/10/2015 13:08

Headache!! Any tips?

PseudoBadger · 14/10/2015 13:54

Drink water, eat something salty or try a boullion/stock drink

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 14/10/2015 13:54

Paracetamol, AStone? No need to suffer!

B: Lidl Greek yoghurt
L: Mozzarella, tomato and ham salad
S: 2 x Lidl Polish sausages; 2 x cups of tea with splash of milk

D: will be more slow-cooker pork with Savoy cabbage fried in butter.

Do I need to knock the Polish sausages on the head? They are processed, but they are also portable, low-carb and are getting me through work afternoons.

Oh no! I was looking forward to my nightly low cal hot choc Shock. Sorry folks - all my fault I thought under 3 carbs was ok but now understand re the sweet thing. Nowt but Water for me tonight and then straight to bed Blush. blimey it's like real bootcamp innit?

regenerationfez · 14/10/2015 14:22

billionaire I know its not the same about a million miles away but I have liquorice tea before bed. It has a hint of sweetness.

I've been holed up in the office today so have been a bit rubbish, added to the fridge saga, as all the cold food in the house is stuffed in cooler bags as we can't use the fridge for 2 hours!

I've had a Greek yogurt and rooibos tea with almond milk, was still hungry so hasd 3 scrambled eggs and a coffee with cream. I haven't had anything since then, but have made a bolognese for dinner. Ihave a choice of leftover curry or that because I've had no lunch so far! I had a bit of plain chocolate too, but not sure if we can have that on BC. probably not!

regenerationfez · 14/10/2015 14:26

oops just read my telling off! That'll learn me! The curry did have spinach in it Miss, and I had cauliflower rice! I'll up my veg today and have a side of broccoli with my dinner.

Is anyone exercising whilst doing bootcamp? I thought I would go for a short run today, first one since I started. Any experience/ advice from anyone? I'm expecting it to be hard as I haven't ran for about 3 weeks, but will I find it even harder LCing? I'm not going to go far or fast. because I can't

Huntthepigsear · 14/10/2015 16:01

I'm going to pretend I'm running away from BIWI and her big stick. Grin

You may find exercise much harder going in the first couple of weeks, but don't be disheartened. Once you're fat-adapted, which is generally after the first couple of weeks, your performance will be back to normal. Some might say it's even better.

There's a really good book called "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance" which talks about the benefits of low carbing in sport.

Hunter I was going to resume my c25k on Monday but found it really hard. Maybe that's why. I might do a little bit of light running for the 2 weeks just to keep my hand in as I've got to week 6 (finally ) and don't want to go backwards

Kleptronic · 14/10/2015 17:35

Lost 1lb 4oz overnight. It's def water.

B: 2 egg omelette, chorizo, olive oil
L: 2 boiled eggs mashed in Delouis mayo, spinach wilted in olive oil
S: third of a pack of pork scratchings
D: dunno yet. More eggs probably. Eggs and lard. Eggs and feta and olives.
3 coffees with cream, very tired. 2 litres of water so far.

Kleptronic · 14/10/2015 18:08

Nope it was asparagus spears, Delouis mayo and mackerel in oil for dinner.

ChesterDawers · 14/10/2015 18:31

Glad everyone seems to be doing well so far. Sorry I've not been round much, but things at home are very distracting at the minute.

Still struggling with no appetite, but what I am eating is BC approved. The scales are dropping but I suspect more to do with lack of intake than the diet itself.

Today:

B: a few spoons of total
L: nowt
D: chester's chicken Grin bit of broccoli roast in olive oil

Not enough water today either, but there is still time and I will do my bestest.

BIWI · 14/10/2015 18:37

Sounds like you're having a tough time, Chester Sad

But you must try and eat something - even if it's just a bit of cheese, or a boiled egg.

CharlieSierra · 14/10/2015 18:52

It sounds as though everyone is going really well. I've had another good day, avocado with oil and salt, tuna mayo salad and I'm having a pork chop for dinner. I'm a bit fed up I have to go to Paris tomorrow, travelling by train and staying in a hotel, meeting with lunch provided on Friday, it's far from ideal so early on but I'll do my best with what's available and be back to super strict as soon as I'm back.

BIWI · 14/10/2015 19:05

Are you travelling by Eurostar? I think there's an M&S Simply Food at St Pancras, so you can find plenty of low carb things to take with you to eat on the train. If lunch is provided, it's obviously out of your hands, but try your best to avoid the bread - if it's traditional French food, it may be easier than you think to avoid carbs - you're very unlikely to be offered pasta or pizza!

These things happen though, and it's all part of adopting this WOE for life - so enjoy it. Be mindful of the choices that you're making though. But you've low carbed before, so you know your way around a menu better than if you were a newbie!

Hi after my youghurt and eggs breakfast, I had leftover chicken and spinach curry on its own, then veal bolognese with courgette spaghetti. I also had some leftover sweet potato chips( about 4) that my DS left. I though they would be OK as they were sweet potato. I'm making a real effort to up my water intake, I'm doing sparkling water and herbal teas to make it moré interesting!
I'm going to have a problem tomorrow too. I have a breakfast meeting. I was hoping for cooked breakfast, but its continental. Not sure if they will have cold meat\cheese option or if it will just be toast and croissants. Will try my best but promise to be back on track by lunchGrin

Wombatinabathhat · 14/10/2015 19:48

Had a sneaky weigh in this morning - and 2lbs down Grin
I won't be weighing again till monday.

B: Ham and mayo
L: was very late - large chicken and courgette curry
S: Pork crackling

2 decaf coffees with cream

I'm aware that I need to increase my veg/salad

BIWI · 14/10/2015 19:49

Sweet potato?! The clue is in the name!!!

Please, please, please read the list of allowed veg on the spreadsheet, so that you know how carby different veg are.

(And I apologise in advance if sweet potato isn't on there Blush)

If it's a continental breakfast then that should mean meats and cheeses. But why not eat before you get there, so that you don't have to risk toast and croissants? You need to take charge, and not let things just overtake you.
