Glad the flax mix is helping folk with the bungs. Invented something worthwhile in my life!

Romeyroo · 21/03/2015 06:03

I LOVE the flaxseed mix - it is ideal as a portable breakfast. I bought a little plastic tub which I make it up in for when I get to work. On ice-skating days (todaySmile), I take it with me to go with coffee beforehand. I do add in a few cocoa nibs for added crunch, magnesium and potassium, sometimes, but caution there, as they are a bit more carby, so literally a few.

Romeyroo · 21/03/2015 06:10

All the best with the run pisses

Climbing wall - good idea trash, will file that one for doing with DD when ice-skating season finishes. We started a bit of hill-walking last year, which she enjoyed, and I think that would be a good indoor alternative. We have every second Saturday to do stuff together at the moment, in a couple of years I am sure she will want to spend that time with friends (boyfriendShock??!?!, no, that will be more than a couple of years...).

CharlieSierra · 21/03/2015 07:16

I must have missed something about flax seed and the bungs. I am in urgent need of a cure, so please would a kind soul fill me in? Confused

CharlieSierra · 21/03/2015 07:21

Gcalgske I love these. www.unitednude.com/mobius-mid-black-white-mix-embossed-stingray-leather-2443

almahart · 21/03/2015 07:26

Are you using the flax seed you can get in bags at somewhere like Holland and Barrett? Having looked in our big sainsburys I just did a quick google but I'm not totally sure what I'm looking for

Romeyroo · 21/03/2015 07:26

I think the bung chat was on week seven or eight charlie as I had the same problem. On phone, so can't link right now, but there were a few suggestions for de-bunging.

Coconut mix (with credit to cgalske) I do is coconut milk, milled flaxseed and occasionally cocoa nibs. I also stopped so many eggs, and on the occasions I have used eggs, it is quiche with flaxseed pastry or when I made frittata I added in a couple of spoons of flaxseed. I have also made flaxseed pancakes and, before my oven broke, flaxseed bread (both super yummy) and on the recipe thread.

Flaxseed is £5-£6 depending where you buy it.

Romeyroo · 21/03/2015 07:29

Yes, I get mine at Holland and Barrett. Brand is Linwoods off the top of my head. My Tesco have it but I can't remember where it is shelved, somewhere odd

CharlieSierra · 21/03/2015 08:02

I have linwoods milled flaxseed, I used to add some to my green smoothies but not really having them much now due to the lack of fruit. I had one last week with 1 large strawberry, so could do that again. I have made a loaf with it before, I found the texture ok but to me it had a smell that I found off putting. I'll find a way to get some down me if it works.

CharlieSierra · 21/03/2015 08:19

almahart I got mine from sainsburys it's by the flours.

Gcalgske · 21/03/2015 09:03

Aldi and lidl do milled flax too it's by the breakfast cereal and £1.99 per bag of around 225g. Or you can use the cheaper whole flax/ linseed from Tesco (I think it is only £1 for 200g - near the wholefoods)
If you use whole you can grind it yourself in a blender or coffee grinder or soak it in the coconut milk overnight to soften (and make it crunchable with the teeth). The whole is an acquired taste but I love it (I used to love the onken bio pot with whole grains - it's similar to that texture) I tend to make a batch of four portions at a time (400g can coconut milk) and add 4tbsp of flax and a little almond milk (if the coconut milk is very thick) in little yoghurt type pots I got to store baby food when I was weaning my dd. I like it plain but the cocoa nibs sound ace, I quite often finely chop a big strawberry or crumble 2-3 frozen raspberries in there. Frozen work really well as they defrost they let out their juice and give a pleasing colour and are good for portion control. If I wasn't on BC (and a bit more relaxed about artificial sweetners then a tbsp of a no added sugar squash concentrate in there can give it a lovely flavour (robinsons NAS peach barley). Yum.

Gcalgske · 21/03/2015 09:06

Charlie it can smell slightly fishy. I've decided (without any scientific evidence) that the omega oils must smell of fish because flax is high in them as is cod liver oil. I find it smells when I mix it but not after its soaking.

Gcalgske · 21/03/2015 09:08

I've made a granola/ muesli in the past with it and lots of other nuts and seeds. Bit carby for boot camp but really really goodie you are having a 'I just want a bowl of cereal' moment.

Gcalgske · 21/03/2015 09:19

charlie The möbius is gorgeous and easy to wear. I have them in black in the higher height. I love my le corbusier ones too :( they are in pretty boxes next door. They don't seem to sell them anymore. The are v comfy (or they were when I could wear heels of any description)

CharlieSierra · 21/03/2015 09:57

I've just had a tbsp in half a pot of ff total with 3 raspberries and 3 chopped almonds. Now I need to add up whether or not that was an acceptable breakfast, it tasted fine and would be good in the week for taking to work.

Now heading back to United nude, how did I not know about them before.....

Pisseslikeahorse · 21/03/2015 11:14

OK so .... half marathon 2:20:04 Grin I'm knackered but very happy.
I came to this group just after last easter weighing about 132kg/291lb not able to do much more than a slow shuffle for a couple of miles. After todays run today i'm 90.9kg/200.04lb.

Thanks all couldn't have done it without you Flowers, now whats this maintenance thingy?

Our Lidl only has flaxseed with various added things, does yours have it plain gcalske. There is a bigger branch I can try because that is a big price difference.

I have just had my coconut mix for late breakfast - I have never noticed a fishy smell, but I get that could be off putting. I struggle with desiccated coconut and coconut flour because of the texture.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 21/03/2015 11:50

"when ice-skating season finishes." Shock Wash your mouth out with soap! Romey the hockey lot might take the summer off but the figure skaters work twice as hard in the between season break. Gotta have the new skills and routines nailed for the start of the new season.to be fair a lot of the hockey lot go do training camps so they don't really take the summer off but only the serious about the sport ones

Stood on the scales this morning, hovering between 1 and 2kg off. Going to take the 1 as that was the more consistent result Blush

sassandfaff · 21/03/2015 12:17

Well done. You look fab.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 21/03/2015 12:22

Sorry Pisses I was too shocked at the concept of an end of season Blush

Huge congratulations on your run and fabulous picture!

Gcalgske · 21/03/2015 12:48

Yeah I've got plain from both Aldi and lidl romey. X
Well done pisses! I'm jealous. (Ex runner with a dodgy pelvis over here)

MrsKoala · 21/03/2015 13:11

Well done Pisses. Great pic. You have done so well, i hope you are very proud of yourself. I am also jealous of being able to run Envy

Gcalgske · 21/03/2015 13:28

Got down stairs to make bacon for breakfast and the smell of the ham bone in the slow cooker was too good to resist. Stripped the bone and ate 100g shredded meat. Made a 2 portion courgette soup with 500mls of stock.
300g courgette
100g leek
1 crushed garlic clove
Fry in 1 tbsp olive oil until soft. Add the stock and season. Simmer for 20 mins then blitz. I also love courgette and ginger (but had no fresh ginger left)
Will have the rest for lunch tomorrow. It's really creamy and thick. Yum

BIWI · 21/03/2015 13:28

Yay! Brilliant, pisses!
