Week 2 - January Low Carb Bootcamp - the first moment of truth!

Good morning! Already seen that there are some good losses, even for those in the dreaded week 3 Grin

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I love this point in Bootcamp. It's such a leap of faith for so many people when they first start low carbing, because it seems so strange to eat all the fat we're told to eat. But then when the scales show the result, I love it!

There's a really interesting article here about low carb and thyroid problems.

Too quickly and too severely can cause problems for some people, although it does seem rare.

sass that's interesting. I had big babies and borderline gd in pregnancy. Very all over the place with my blood sugars

FurFoxAke · 26/01/2015 13:59

Hi all! Congratulations on the losses!
I'm feeling better physically, so that's a good start! Yesterday went as planned food wise.
Today;
Breakfast. Buttery duck egg
Lunch. Lamb chops and roasted cauliflower
Tea. Tuna melt with spinach.

I haven't weighed myself or updated the spreadsheet because I feel so ill:(

I woke up feeling really ill and I just feel like I'm going to be sick all the time. Plus I have a sore throat and cough. if i feel better tomorrow I'll weigh and update.

BlueberryHope · 26/01/2015 14:07

Nine pounds down! NINE! Good grief. All off my tummy judging by my clothes, and have just read Btiffa book about viscous fat gathering round organs and being toxic, so am hoping the fat has directly left my organs. Or something... Well done all of you budgeteers - I have spent more this week as DH is not down with this WOE (mixture of being a carb-lover and seeing my previous success with WW) so have been double-shopping a bit!
Food today has been two h-b eggs with low-carb mayo and spinach leaves. Lunch four (!) l-c sausages and big salad with lots of olive oil and salt. Lots of water. Resisting massive stash of birthday cake, chocolate buttons etc but having two decaf coffees with gorgeous cream. It is so good to hear of everyone's success. And those who haven't lost much, hopefully this is the week of slender! Have convinced a friend to try this, we went out for supper and she was shocked (in a good way!) at what I was eating! Is anyone else getting seriously into buttery swede mash topped with crispy bacon? That is my tea, right there. Soooo fit...

LexLoofah · 26/01/2015 14:20

Hello all

Was like getting up on Christmas morning today, but instead of 'has he been' it was 'have I lost weight' thrilled to report yes, down 3lb so that's 7 since starting on the two week pre boot camp ease in. DH down 8 total, very happy hubby. Not feeling it anywhere yet, will measure later.

B- big bacon, mushroom, asparagus omelette, avocado, tea
L - hot dogs and not decided yet- the organic ones I had in the freezer already say 0g carbs and seems to be meat and seasonings, no fillers
D - planning slow cooker butter chicken, first go at cauli rice and sautéed aubergine

Parsley1234 · 26/01/2015 14:38

Wow at your twins *sass". Mine were 10'11" Shock and 9'10". My 9 pounder seemed teeny compared to my oldest

SinclairSpectrum · 26/01/2015 14:51

Wahoo, down by 6lbs!!!!
Can't update spreadsheet on my phone and laptop currently goosed .
Could someone please add my first weeks loss?

EvaTheOptimist · 26/01/2015 14:57

Down by 0.4lb, which is great. Its the right direction! I've been eating low carb (or "nearly" low carb) for a long time now so I was not expecting any whoosh. Inching down in the right direction is what I'm looking for!

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 26/01/2015 14:58

L - change of plan, went back to bed so have ham salad and mayo now with a coffee and cream

miffy49 · 26/01/2015 15:02

Interesting Biwi. I did really well on LC to start with. I started out on Atkins but changed over to IPD and then slowly moved over to LCHF/Bootcamp. I always feel much better on LC. It seems to suit my FMS. My energy levels are better and my brain is much clearer but I've reached a point where I just can't lose the rest of the weight. I actually felt much worse for adding back the carbs. Also, when I've added back a few carbs my weight goes up and then I can't get it back off again. Various experiments have left me around half a stone heavier than my best weight.

I've wondered about thyroid issues but never get any joy from the docs. Of course another possibility for me is the lack of restorative sleep but theres bugger all I can do about that as its part of the fibro. Sad

I recently read a book by Sofie Hexeberg (one of the Swedish LCHF crew) and she advocates steadily dropping carbs over around 3mths for anyone with thyroid problems. Starting out with going sugar-free, then steadily dropping out other white carbs and eventually dropping more complex carbs until you get to around 30-50gr. (Or whatever level gives you a steady loss)

Mrsstevejones · 26/01/2015 15:35

This WOE eating gives me perfect blood sugars. I had GD - it was picked up on the second pregnancy DS (8lb 12oz 3 weeks early) but not first, DD -pregnancy 10lb 4oz! I was worried about diabetes but this WOE sorts it out - perhaps it takes some time to settle??

I didnt get swimming today or walk to do nursery pick up - arrgghh.

Went to M&S cafe and had coffee with cream and DD had a baby chino and a teacake - wasnt even tempted, she did try to feed me some but i resisted.

sassandfaff · 26/01/2015 15:39

alma wow at your 10lbs 11!

Well I don't think it's any coincidence that we've both had big babies, and we are suffering with mood sings. Your gd borderline could have been gd in another year as the tweak with the numbers all the time. I wouldn't have been treated for it in my last pregnancy, if they would have kept the same numbers as they had for my twin pregnancy.

We've got rid of the sugar spikes, so I think the only solution is regular mealtimes. Which I have to admit, I am proper shit at. Oops.

sassandfaff · 26/01/2015 15:43

mrssteve xposted. Hopefully it will settle down. I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia in 1998, before I had any children, so I've always been erratic. Smile

readyforno2 · 26/01/2015 16:03

Haven't read the thread yet. Will catch up later. Just getting this onto 'I'm on'

MontserratCaballe · 26/01/2015 16:12

BIWI - I make meatzza with Nigella's recipe but leave out the oats or breadcrumbs. SO the base is meat, herbs, parmesan and egg - works a treat!

Newbiecrafter · 26/01/2015 16:13

Hello everyone.

I posted this over on the other thread before BIWI directed us over to this one. BIWI, thanks for the link to the thyroid info. I don't feel unwell apart from the bits I mention below. I was fine this morning, but have just caved in and had a slice of gF cake with buttercream. I haven't had sugar since jan 1st but made a cake for my dc and DS was whinging about it so much I had to try a piece. I was hoping I would hate it but actually enjoyed it, this is week 4 for me, so I'm not hoping to beat myself up about it. I'm back to this woe. Blush

Morning everyone.

Well done to everyone -there have been some great losses! Yihoooo!

I weighed in this morning and am down only 0.2 lbs

I have been eating well. I haven't had any dairy apart from butter since jan 1st. I had a diet coke (which is very unusual as I hate the stuff) when I was out one night last week and a sip of apple juice absent mindedly at a school info morning. I'm still. It hitting my 3 ltrs of water but am probably drinking about 2 ltrs. I also have 1 or 2 bpc's.

I suffer from acid indigestion and Last week I had terrible reflux so my HP has put me onto omeprazole as I have a funny thing going on with my throat that doesn't seem to be thyroid related.

So could the diet coke or omeprazole or Caffeine be causing the uber slow loss?

I am eating lots of fat. Plenty of protein and low carb veg, at each meal.

Any thoughts please? Earlier in the week I weighed myself and I was 181.8 so was convinced I was on my way to a 1lb loss. I am going to keep going but would like to figure out what is causing me to almost stall.

Oh, and I've also been getting muscle ache in my hamstrings so wondering if i need more salt or something.

Thanks so much everyone,

Xxx

Newbiecrafter · 26/01/2015 16:15

Oh, and I think I've hit the menopause, peri menopause as I've been getting really terrible hit flushes for a few weeks, although this week has been much better. So could it be hormone related that my weight loss is so slow?

WireCat · 26/01/2015 16:24

Afternoon all.

Last Monday I was 163.75 and this week I'm.....

Drum roll......

159.5

So a 4lb loss.

I'm very pleased.

Please could someone put 159.5 on the spreadsheet please cos I can't do it on my iPad, thank you.

Today I had bacon, fried egg & mushrooms for breakfast with a coffee with cream.

Lunch was salad leaves, cucumber, feta cheese, olives & mayonnaise.

Dinner will be some beef stew (only leeks & swede in it) and a bit of left over creamy leeks.

Onwards & downwards everyone!

Hi BIWI
I am 1.63cm. I can tell you that I have been dieting for the last uhmm... 20 years?? So I'm around 59-60-61. .
Last Christmas 2013 I put on one stone and during Easter, another half more, so since April 2014 I ve been trying to lose it going from one diet to another, from fasting to lc and so on.
I can assure you that I have no cheating at all. I don't drink and I don't like rice, pasta, bread or potatoes. so no matter which diet I'm following, these foods are out of the menu.
I can tell you that for instance for the last 2 or 3 days I have had:
B- 2 lc sausages with home made mayo or another day 2 scramble eggs cooked with butter with bacon lardons
L- roast beef with salad with loads of Mayo, or chicken thighs with salad with mayo and grated cheese.
L- chicken with swede mash with a bit of soya milk and butter or 2 fried eggs with smoked salmon and a salad with loads of Mayo.

W- between 2.5-3l
And two decaf coffees with soya milk which is very low in carbs for 250ml, only use a bit.
I haven't got any carb flu or nothing at all like other people. I feel absolut fine since the very first day. Ah and I'm not in any mess
Sorry BIWI for the long post, I really do apologise and thanks for taking time to reading it.
