5 Week Low Carb Bootcamp, with added Ubercamp

BIWI · 21/07/2014 07:35

Morning all!

Just starting the day with a black coffee instead of my usual white one. Not quite sure if I like it or not ...

Anyway, welcome, everyone to this shorter-and-stricter-than-usual Bootcamp Grin

For those of you who are new to low carbing, I strongly suggest that you don't do Ubercamp. It's very strict and restrictive and will be a very, very hard introduction to low carbing. Far better that you get to grips with what it's all about before you also aim to cut out dairy.

For those of you that have low carbed before, you have the option this time around. You can either Bootcamp, which will last for three weeks this time, followed by two weeks of Bootcamp Light, or you can Ubercamp for the first week.

Ubercamp means no dairy (apart from butter). So the rules are the same as for Bootcamp, with this one exception.

Bootcamp Rules

On our Spreadsheet of Fabulousness you will find the rules of Bootcamp - along with a whole load of other really important information. Have a good look around it, by clicking on the tabs at the bottom.

Sayra will be updating the spreadsheet this morning, so she will get all your names on it, and when she does, you can then enter your starting weight. As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all

MNHQ are - hopefully! - also setting up another Weight Tracker for us.

As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all there, in which case use the Weight Tracker, as that is private.

So this is the plan this time around:

Week 1 - Ubercamp (for those who are up for the extra challenge
Weeks 2-3 - Bootcamp
Weeks 4-5 - Bootcamp Light

I should warn you that I have taken my big stick out of the cupboard and I am ready and willing to use it ...

I'm not sure what people use as I have to admit to being lazy and using store bought. But I'm sure some others have said that they don't like the flavour when they use olive oil. I'm guessing any oil would work so I would just pick a very light one and flavourless one :-). I'm sure someone will be along soon to give more useful advice!

miffy49 · 21/07/2014 13:09

Trinity I use the light olive oil. Some use sunflower or plain veg oil if they aren't worried about using seed oils. The extra virgin is far too strong on it5s own.

PennyVeryDreadful · 21/07/2014 13:14

Trinity Use a mix of sunflower and olive oil. Just olive oil by itself makes it bitter.

I put 2 egg yolks, pinch mustard powder / dab Dijon, a tablespoonful of white wine vinegar and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Put 175ml good sunflower in a jug. Top up with 50ml extra virgin olive oil.

Whisk the oil into the eggs - I do it in 4-6 gluts of oil with electric hand beaters. You can stir in chopped herbs and spices at this point.

Keeps for a few days in the fridge. Used to hate mayo until I learned how to make it!

trinitybleu · 21/07/2014 13:19

don't think it was extra virgin, but will go and check in a bit :)

This was just a cup of oil, 2 eggs, lemon juice. In a jar. Stick blender for 20 seconds. Done :)

HolgerDanske · 21/07/2014 13:19

Years ago I used to make it with a little bit of lemon juice. Gosh it's been a long time, maybe I'll make some this week!

StuntNun · 21/07/2014 13:20

Holger those devilled eggs sound lush. I will try them tomorrow for lunch as I have four steamed eggs left in the fridge.

Maybe a stupid question but is it safe to eat mayo made with raw egg. That Edwina Currie put me off raw egg in the 80s and I haven't had it since.

PennyVeryDreadful · 21/07/2014 13:21

*glugs rather than gluts!

HolgerDanske · 21/07/2014 13:31

As far as I know raw eggs are fine for healthy people with a well-functioning immune system.

perrysands · 21/07/2014 14:08

Pisseslikeahorse ,curried mince!! I love curry , I love mince(yum yum) thought I could not have curry. How do I make this o wise one?

wombat22 · 21/07/2014 14:13

Mild and light olive oil, one egg, juice of half a lemon and teaspoon of Dijon mustard. Stick blender for 20 secs. Fantastic

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 21/07/2014 14:33

Have had a 2 egg omelette and am 153lbs today. :/ Aiming for about 120 but I'm sure I wont manage that just on BC.

trinitybleu · 21/07/2014 14:41

it was 20% virgin (not extra), the rest just olive oil, but will look for something else for another day

Earlybird · 21/07/2014 14:50

Hello
here we go......Will add myself to spreadsheet in a moment.

In the meantime - is full fat cottage cheese OK?

Fwiw, I find it is easier to drink the water through a straw. I seem to drink more that way (going to be a challenge for me to get the required water amount in).

HolgerDanske · 21/07/2014 14:52

I weighed in at 147.7 this morning. But I had a burger for lunch yesterday. My one big cheat before this camp. And I've not had much to drink last few days so I think I may be holding on to a bit of water weight.

I guess I would like to finish the five weeks at about 132.3 but if I'm honest even half of that would be good enough for me. Slow and easy wins the race in the long run, I hope.

miffy49 · 21/07/2014 14:53

I always use the stick blender method now. the only time I ever had trouble was when my eggs were quite small. I just chucked in another egg and gave it a blitz and all mended.Smile

Plonkysaurus · 21/07/2014 15:55

Montserrat, thank you! My dress is a knee length number in ivory lace. It looks more like a party frock than a meringue and is lovely and flattering.

I'm stocked up my teas (sleepy time and chamomile are favourites of mine) but still have the odd cup of Yorkshire with unsweetened almond milk. Deviled eggs sound divine, will have to try them!

So I'm 2 pints down and a few more to go, and today's meals are
B : BCP
L : bacon & eggs
S : avocado, small slice of cheese with one cherry tom
D : either burgers or chicken thighs with salad.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 21/07/2014 16:00

Just a tip, anyone with a Tesco with a butchers section, their "Finest" 6oz beef burgers are half price at 50p each just now, they are gorgeous.

Spaghettio · 21/07/2014 16:51

I'm just about to weigh myself (forgot this morning). Wish me luck!

Pisseslikeahorse · 21/07/2014 17:05

perrysands - Its very basic, todays was mince, curry powder, garlic and chilli paste and some veg to crunch on (non Ubercamp version also has some tomato sliced and a dollop of greek yogurt or egg in at the end on iceberg)
I have to admit that my other half does the more complex, usually taken from a 70s madhur jaffrey book we found in an oxfam shop.

F.Y.I. I found the veg tracker very helpful today in checking I didn't go over my carb limit.

RoaringForties · 21/07/2014 17:07

Afternoon everyone, I have managed a whole day cheese free which is a first for me.

Thanks for the spreadsheet sayra starting at 159.8 and would like to get down to 150.
B: scrambled eggs with butter and chives
L: sausages with salad
D: cold pork leftovers with salad
water water water.

I bought one of those bobble bottles the other day so that I would actually remember to drink when out and about. Never occurred to me that minerals would get filtered out too... bother.

Plonkysaurus your dress sounds lovely

Thanks as always biwi

Firsttimer7259 · 21/07/2014 18:34

Dress sounds lovely plonky
I've just made mayo inspired by posters on here - I had a hard day today think I need more fat, I have frozen chicken breasts that aren't doing it for me.

HolgerDanske · 21/07/2014 18:36

Sorry it's so hard to remember who is doing it first time so apologies if you already know this but yes, you probably do need a LOT more fat than you think. And lots of salt. And lots of water.

Hope you feel better soon Smile

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 21/07/2014 18:56

B- scrambled eggs and spinach
L- post gym protein shake and some leftover Yakatori chicken.
D- lettuce tacos; mince, peppers, onion, spices etc served in gem lettuce leaves.

Need more veg ideally. Smile

TurnOverTheTv · 21/07/2014 18:57

Is anyone else not very hungry? I've had
B- mashed hot eggs with butter and mushrooms
L- little gem lettuce wraps with chicken mayo and avocado

I've got a piece of salmon in the oven, that I'll have with some fried kale. But will have to force it down! I've drank about 2.5 litres of water, and been to the toilet an appalling 12 times...

Are many people doing gym programmes? I do HIIT training and they normally like me to have some carbs on training days.

StuntNun · 21/07/2014 19:11

When you start to low carb, TV, it takes a couple of weeks to adapt to the different food proportions you are eating. Once you are fat-adapted you won't need extra carbs on exercise day but in the meantime you may see a loss in your normal performance. I think Pisses went through this recently so he may have some useful tips.
