Time for a new thread!!

Mellow, congratulations!

Dusty, ds2 would look so cool with a Beatles haircut

Pc, sorry you've all been ill, glad you're on the mend. Can't believe ds will be 2

Vbus, well done on getting dh into the spare room, dh refuses to move from our bed when he's ill!! Hope he's all better for your holiday, where are you going?

We're also ready for a holiday, am waiting for The Sun cheapie deals to start up again!

SFX, I LOVE Edinburgh - have you been there before? It is beautiful and so atmospheric. V, v cold in the winter, just wrap up well. Castle is wonderful. You've made me want to go now, too, I might hop on the bandwagon!!

Am having a lovely few days with various visitors from London. Have got lost in the wilds of Sussex a few times at this point but the car always seems to find its way home. Today we will mostly be getting lost trying to find the Hatchlands National Trust place in Surrey but hopefully it should be fairly straightforward.

Last few days of driving the perfectly fine car, dh seems intent on getting a minibus aka mpv, I am railing against it!!

dustythedolphin · 20/08/2010 10:11

Love the idea of that trailer tent! :)

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/08/2010 16:55

And what do people eat when camping? I'm thinking pub food and fish and chips but is that cheating?

sfxmum · 20/08/2010 18:09

hello all

pcW DH was born there and christened at the Castle apparently, and his maternal family is from Stirling ?Edinburgh so I think a visit is in order to introduce dd to that side of the family heritage, next Ireland and perhaps Portugal who knows

lordcopper my recent camping experiences have been with child and festival going, we have a basic cooking implement Trangia we take some food or buy locally and some meals we just get from the fabulous and convenient outletsGrin but basics are baked beans, eggs bacon bread past couscous etc.

  • also many people take a frozen meal for the first day which should defrost for when you need it and eat that, chilli or bolognese then just make rice/ pasta
I do tend to take stuff like banana bread and muffins which keep
sfxmum · 20/08/2010 18:11

that makes no sense but am trying to listen to dh&dd at the same timeHmm

tired busy day

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/08/2010 18:17

DH laughed at me when I suggested pasta. Says nobody eats pasta when camping. (Not that he has been camping for the past 15 years.)

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/08/2010 18:17

Edinburgh, Stirling all pretty places to visit. Castles are impressive.

vbus · 20/08/2010 19:33

Edinburgh is beautiful agreed. Any time is good to visit, I'd book trip according to when you think you'd most enjoy/need the holiday

We have the same trangia set and it is fab. You can make cups of tea/soup. Tell Dh pasta is a staple meal, easy to make, filling and light to carry. As is rice. Good for beans/fry ups etc. We tend to cook either lunch or dinner and then have the other meal at festival site, helps keep the costs down. Ray has a recipe for banock (sp?) bread which you can make when camping, I'll dig it our for you if you want?

PCw - How was your day trip?

Friend took us to Lensbury today, our first visit. It was really nice but I was pretty Shock when she told me how much she pays per month

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/08/2010 20:26

How's about a cobb? Grin

sfxmum · 20/08/2010 20:33

don't know that one but when camping weight and ease of fuel are primary concerns

on he other hand at our recent festival they had fresh fish, seafood and meat at the onsite farmers market, some people took serious BBQ and used them at the BBQ area or more often at the campervan site

vbus had to google the bannockGrin found video of Ray cooking it in Canada interesting

vbus · 20/08/2010 21:00

Send me the link, would love to watch that, have only seen Dh make it Grin

Copper - Trangia is one of the best on the market

vbus · 20/08/2010 21:01

Anyone else about to watch Celeb Masterchef final?

sfxmum · 20/08/2010 21:03

vbus [[http://www.wildernesscooking.com/blog/?p=135 Ray's Bannock

there is the new Dexter at 10pm I would like to watch it but already know the big spoiler, serves me right for not downloading when in the USGrin
to avoid that watching True Blood as it happens there, extremely bloody season

sfxmum · 20/08/2010 21:03

sorry Ray's Bannock

sfxmum · 20/08/2010 21:04

vbus diet can't watch gorgeous food being prepared

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/08/2010 21:57

Bored. You can only browse camping gears for that long. Grin

sfx - sent you an email.

Anyone coming out to play earlier tomorrow evening?

sfxmum · 20/08/2010 22:02

vbus it is all your fault
on the basis of the one and only episode I watched the moustache guy deserved to win not the simpering blondie

vbus · 20/08/2010 22:07

I know completely annoying yet predictable, poor bloke he was gutted

thanks for link, must tell Dh about the secret ingredient at the end Hmm

Copper - not sure yet, will just have to play it by ear....

sfxmum · 21/08/2010 18:38

motorbike? check you outGrin

hope you enjoyed yourself, we had a lovely evening thanks all

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/08/2010 23:59

Home eventually. Headed wrong direction coming out of restaurant for some reason Blush. I have an appalling sense of direction.

This was what I saw and really like in a whole afternoon of browsing ... but didn't buy it because I don't need another lightweight coat. Am I too rational for my own good?

Good night!

tillyfernackerpants · 22/08/2010 10:38

Sfx, long time since I've been on the motorbike, pre-dcs, so it was great fun!!

Hope you all had a good night. We went to see Inception in the end, very good, really enjoyed it
