Hello!

DS2 fell off swing and bumped his head. I think he is ok but shall have to keep an eye on him. Sad

We are going to the British museum on Wednesday. But not to see mummies. Might be too scary.

sfxmum · 10/08/2010 09:14

hello

lordcopper hope ds2 is well

tilly good to hear

have errands to run but had another sleepless night feel exhausted at least dd had a long sleep

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/08/2010 10:46

Hello!

Phoned nhs direct and they reckon we should just keep ds2 at home and observe him... He is running about like a loon (but with bike helmet on Hmm) and says he has a headache the size of an ant rather than an elephant. Hmm Should I just leave him be?

vbus · 10/08/2010 12:52

Hello

Copper - If you're concerned might as well err on side of caution and get DS2 checked out, better to be told it's nothing than do nothing and worry

Sfx - would like to go to British museum too but can't do museum tom as have to be back at 3pm to pick up DS1 from summer camp. A friend has invited us round tom so will just stay local instead. Have fun if you go otherwise I'm free on Mon if you want to go to musuem then?

Tilly -enjoy Legoland Tilly, tell me what you think about it as I'm keen to take DS1. As far art class, 2nd course was run by different teacher so I wasn't as keen, plus DH travel increased so I had to drop out. How is your teaching going?

DollyDiamond · 10/08/2010 13:13

Hi Everyone,

Have been enjoying reading your messages, you do make me chuckle! Piece of advice though - is starting from the most recent and working back better than choosing a random page and going forward. I'm clearly easily confused, I could just start at the beginning, but then I'll never catch up...

Anyway, you seem to be very knowledgable in all things child, so wondered if you could recommend some bed time reading choices. My dd is just over 2 and really getting into it, but the stickman seems to be wearing thin (no pun intended). Any books that you/your little people loved (think milk, cuddles and the warm glow only your dc's riveted face can give you!).

UptoapointLordCopper (may I call you Copper?), for what it's worth, I think as long as your little boy didn't lose consciousness, doesn't throw up/complain of severe headache/blurred vision and you're happy he's not acting strangely, I wouldn't waste your precious (albeit wet) afternoon in a GP surgery? Poor boy though, do chocolate biscuits ease the pain...?

Smile
sfxmum · 10/08/2010 14:31

lorcopper what dolly said really, although hard not to worry 'tis the parents lot

vbus ok got what you meant know, was out and about earlier when you texted, yes to Museum on Monday dd would be delighted she has been a bit lonely really, neighbour/ friend is away atm
might go to nearer museum tomorrow instead or think of something else South Bank maybe

Dolly regarding dd went in phases really we went and go through all of the Charlie& Lola; Beatrix Potter; Thomas the tank engine ;all Julia Donaldson; The Daisy books; Allan Ahlberg; DrSeuss - that from top of my head am sure there are more

have been trying my contacts it has been nearly 20yrs since I lost wore some, they have changed a lot

sfxmum · 10/08/2010 14:33

Dolly 'regarding bedtime reading' it should say
not sure where text went

vbus · 10/08/2010 14:48

Sfx - got your text, let's do British museum seems ok to get to with pushchair Smile

Hi Dolly - LOL at thought of reading random pages, convo must seem v.peculiar Grin As for books, DS1 liked the ones Sfx listed plus Mr Men books and Usborne books

Muffins ready, going to get them out of oven now. 1st baking in this oven so am slightly nervous how they'll turn out Hmm

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/08/2010 14:50

Hello!

DSs playing with boxes. DS2 seems pretty normal - even been bashing DS1 ... Thanks Dolly/sfx/vbus - DS2 is not complaining of headache until I ask him Hmm Hmm

Dolly - I didn't realise we've got so many messages on this thread. I don't think it makes much sense forwards or backwards or random. Grin

Books as recommended by sfx. Plus Mr Men books and spike milligan poems. David McKee - not now bernard and Who's Mrs Green. The Mog books.

sfxmum · 10/08/2010 15:01

how could I forget Mog?! still saving the last one, dd has been to upset about loss and death generally lately, cries randomly about those feelings. we went to visit my aunt who is turning 80 and dd kept worrying she might dies soon and feeling sadSad
the child has some imagination and is mature enough to start anticipating emotions, it is making turning me into a wreck Grin

vbus ok will note it in our plans

lordcopper if you have to ask then he is ok I think

dolly soon we will fill the thread and start another then will be easier, order irrelevant we mostly talk nonsense

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/08/2010 15:05

sfx - the death of Mog was very traumatising. There's also "I will always love you" for dealing with death. I also heard on the radio about children and bereavement (had to switch off sharpish) and they recommend "There is no such thing as dragons" for some reason.

Another favourite: almost anything by Satoshi Kitamura. Especially the comic adventure of Boots.

sfxmum · 10/08/2010 15:43

lorcopper thanks will keep it mind, there have not been bereavements in our family lately but she has become aware of death in a big way

  • aunt is well but obviously showing her years
am sure she will ask grampa if he will dies soon when she sees him at ChristmasHmm

I have done a lot of study and applied it to work on dealing with bereavement when working in SN but it is all quite different applying it to your own child

vbus · 10/08/2010 16:26

Muffins yummy, thanks for recipe Sfx!

vbus · 10/08/2010 16:28

As for bereavement, we were at my mum's neighbour's on Friday and DC's really enjoyed it. By 7.30pm neighbour's hubby died suddenly Shock Sad. I still find it eerie, couldn't bring myself to tell DS1 what had happened

DollyDiamond · 10/08/2010 19:27

Top book tips, thank you all! Now to get round to ordering them, missing the delivery, twice and eventually going to the post office at 7am on a Saturday to avoid the queues...

Vbus, how terrible?? Definitely not looking forward to that sort of chat with dd, she cries when any other kids cry. Mind you, not too sure she'll be best pleased when a little brother/sister arrives in December either. I've tried to show her my tummy and say "baby!" however, she seems to think it's some sort of game, so pulls her top up and shouts "baby!" while rubbing her belly. She also is known to shout "baby!" at rounder-middled passers-by, though thankfully, she's normally got her thumb in, so it usually is muffled sufficiently that people can't be sure she's insulting them... What do you do to stop children mumbling derogatory comments?!

sfxmum · 10/08/2010 20:38

vbus that is so awful for the family what a shock
and regarding the muffins glad you like them so versatile and they keep well, my brekkie while camping

dollyD you don't, children are here embarrass us they we pay them back and embarrass them, trying to gloss over only makes things worst trust me on that one

sfxmum · 10/08/2010 20:39

that should read
dollyD you don't, children are here to embarrass us then later on we pay them back by embarrassing them, trying to gloss over only makes things worst trust me on that one

vbus · 10/08/2010 21:19

It is a real shock for family. It is weird to think that we were the last people he saw before he died. My mum's friend is in pieces Sad

Dolly - LOl at delivery saga Grin Not much can be done about embarrassing comments from offspring, you'll just have to do that humiliating walk of shame in front of onlookers Grin

Sfx - DS1 been asking if miniSfx would like to go to Transport museum instead? I did say we could go there another time but he said to ask you in case you wanted to go. Do you mind or shall I just tell him it's closed on Mon that's why we're going to British museum

sfxmum · 10/08/2010 21:26

vbus either one is fine but am pushing for the free ones and Transport Museum isn't free although we want to go there too

we are off to NHM or Science tomorrow expect it will be a last minute decision
not thinking about the queues

vbus · 10/08/2010 21:29

Didn't realise TM wasn't free, let's go to the other one then Grin

Going to read rest of Sunday paper in bed now, goodnight all

Kewcumber · 11/08/2010 09:59

Anyone around Thursday pm? Have a free afternoon.

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/08/2010 16:10

Working Thursday. Sad

Back from British Museum. Managed to see everything we wanted to see. But what is it with the Rosetta Stone? Why can't people look at it instead of spending ages trying to take a photo of it? Though one of them was pretty surprised to find DS2 peering through from between her legs. Blush Grin
