Vbus, well done on getting dh into the spare room, dh refuses to move from our bed when he's ill!! Hope he's all better for your holiday, where are you going?

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/08/2010 18:02

We are having the world's healthiest muffin (well, probably). Courgette, bananas, dates, and dark chocolate. Yummy! Smile

sfxmum · 11/08/2010 18:15

sounds lovely, am waiting for dh to come back so I can fit in a quick run while he cooks dinner, I might otherwise explodeGrin

tillyfernackerpants · 11/08/2010 20:30

hi all,

Have had a great day at Legoland. Am glad it was free though as it's v v expensive Shock. Ds1 enjoyed the pirate stunt show (it was quite enjoyable!) and we managed a few rides as well.

Vbus/sfx, mind if I gatecrash the museum plans with you?? I had planned to take them to one of the museums over the summer, think ds1 will enjoy a bit more if he can go with friends.

Copper, glad ds2 is ok!

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/08/2010 11:30

Hello!

sfx - how is the book?

Apparently DS2 wants to be a burglar when he grows up. Hmm

sfxmum · 12/08/2010 11:52

lordcopper read him this it will soon put him offGrin

book very engaging so far

think we up for quiet day today, both woke up sneezing have been trying to tidy up, have urge to throw stuff away

Kewcumber · 12/08/2010 13:30

I'm being brave - we are doing Natutal hist museum this afternon Shock

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/08/2010 13:42

Plan: see Tower bridge lifting.

Time: Tue 24 Aug 13:30

Venue: Tower bridge, of course. Not on it though, silly.

May take in St Paul's or Tate Modern en route.

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/08/2010 13:44

I can get used to this school holiday larks. Wish I've got hols from work too. But have student requiring LOTS of help. Sad >

Kewcumber · 12/08/2010 13:53

I do have hols form work but has mostly involved lots of swimming or caravan activites so not very highbrow. On the other hand DS will get his 20m badge this week and has been up to a class of much older childrne [proud emoticon] and is learning proper breast stroke and back stroke.

Am going to start DS on pocket money when he starts shcool - how much does everyone else give? Was thinking 60p - enough to buy a packet of crisps with a little over to save...

vbus · 12/08/2010 14:24

Haven't even thought about giving pocket money. DS1 quite useful at doing jobs and helping round the house so maybe I'll start giving him say 20p here and there...
Well done on DS on swimming. have to say I've been v. impressed with swimming lessons this wk at Teddington pool. Last lesson tom

Tilly - will be great if you can come too Smile Where shall we meet, Waterloo or at museum? What time are you both thinking of getting there?

Copper - sounds like a good plan. It's worth going to museum that runs along the top of the bridge if you haven't been, lovely views too.

Off to b'day party soon outdoors so hope rain stays away

sfxmum · 12/08/2010 14:25

kewC should be fun

lorcopper we will do Tate Modern again before school starts as it is dd's favourite

regarding pocket money we have not yet started it but can see reason to, all her ideas of money seem lead to ruin or a life of crimeHmm

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/08/2010 14:35

No pocket money here either. Not intending to give pocket money for housework though. No helping out = no dinner. Grin Will start considering pocket money when they ask for it.

We haven't been swimming for ages ...

vbus · 12/08/2010 14:52

Copper - wasn't thinking of giving money for housework, I think they should learn to do that because they need to learn to do that, but more when he helps with one off jobs like washing the car, and recently he was a big help in clearing the loft. He keeps asking how do people get money? so I suppose the pocket money scenario is envitable but hopefully a while off yet. Will also wait til he asks for it Grin

Haven't been to Tate for ages, it's one of my faves, must go again sometime. Can't believe we're half way through hols already

Right, party time, here we go but ds2 still alseep...

sfxmum · 12/08/2010 16:16

not for housework or normal chores I thought pocket money is more like an allowance so she can save for treats maybe later for other things as she grows

fancy running again tonight but possibly pushing it to leave dh to sort dinner out againGrin anyway up early tomorrow might do it

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/08/2010 17:04

vbus - washing the car? clearing the loft? Shock I'd bloody want to be paid to do those things. As it turns out I pay someone to do the first and never do the second.

vbus · 12/08/2010 18:17

Copper - bizarrely he loves doing this sort of stuff!

We had to clear loft as previous owners kindly left that task for us, 20yrs worth of junk left behind to clear out, nightmare. The guys finished the loft yesterday by 7pm so it was tough keeping Dc out of their way. Anyway pleased with our 1st home improvement, we celebrated with some wine Grin

Back from party which was really good, just home in time before downpour. DS1 had a nosebleed as gate sprang back in his face, otherwise lots of fun. Hopefully kids will crash tonight after all that running around and cake

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/08/2010 19:01

We played football in the park and had to run for shelter in the "woods". It was fun.

I don't actually know what's in our loft apart from empty suitcases. Blush Might have to start finding out as running out of space to store LOs' "artwork".

vbus · 12/08/2010 19:41

I have cunning plan for storing artwork, I photograph it so I have the memory of it without having to store reams and reams of paper. I do keep some precious pieces though

Kewcumber · 12/08/2010 20:47

DS has definitely twigged to the idea of money and wants to have his own to buy himself important stuff aka crisps! Also school has a bank so he will very quickly (I suspect) discover the filthy lucre...

My Ma said to DS today "who else came to see the dinsaurs at the museum for his birthday?" Answer (for those who don;t know is of course George Pig) Ds replies "Jesus"???!!! Confused

Becasue we talk about Jesus such a lot at home [home] and of course his well known dinosaur birthday celebration.

tillyfernackerpants · 12/08/2010 20:54

vbus, that's a good idea re artwork. I keep a few bits as well but everything else gets (secretly) put in the recycling! And ouch for ds1, is he ok?

Pocket money, I was going to wait until he asks for it as well! Though I remember getting pocket money in return for doing jobs, wish that still applied now Grin. But that was when I was a teenager, not 4!

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 12/08/2010 21:01

I had pocket money when young not in exchange for helping out around the house (was expected to do that) but was expected to go and earn money by the time I was 13 but was easy to find a job as my mum had the local corner shop! Spent many a long summer slaving in that bleedin' shop.

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/08/2010 21:35

We never had pocket money, though don't remember ever lacking anything (pampered childhood). My mum used to keep a purse in the drawer in one of the rooms and you got money out of it to buy stuff, mostly food-related. Never had to wait for birthdays or Christmas for things. Yet I've always been very sensible about money. Not sure what went right. Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/08/2010 21:35

And before anyone starts parents were not well-off at all when we were growing up.
