let us see if anyone finds their way here

Hello!

Meant to be going out last night but babysitter couldn't make it. Had very superior Japanese takeaway from extremely busy restaurant instead.

Night out would be great. Girly shopping trip would be great too, though I have nothing to buy. Fancy a few hours of mind-numbing activity where the only things you had to think about is whether you like something or not. In fact mind not really working at the moment... Now must get off computer since kids are sitting on sofa expectantly - promised a VCD viewing ...

vbus · 13/09/2009 18:32

Ooh sleep, shopping, going out - some of my favourite pastimes

Babysitting circle is a great idea, will think some more about this

Sfx - glad study went well. 2 houses had potential but both locations had drawbacks, the third was a waste of time.

Slng - Japanese takeaway sounds good

Been to pub today for lunch, nice, just having a breather before I cook tonight's feast for the guests.

hope everyone enjoyed their weekends

slng · 13/09/2009 18:37

Cooked Chinese-style stewed pork. Meant for tonight's and tomorrow's dinners but kids ate lots of it so may have to cook something else tomorrow ... Has anyone done buckwheat pancakes? Is it easy? Is it nice? I bought a packet of buckwheat flour on spec but haven't done anything with it yet.

I am stuck by just how sad I am ... But at least I can eat my hobby ...

sfxmum · 13/09/2009 20:41

hello all

hope everyone had nice weekends bit cold non?

vbus good luck with the house hunting, it is best if it is enjoyed

slng food sounds lovely will have to come up with something simple for tomorrow preferably adapted for both lunch and dinner

DH away, it struck me it has been over 4yrs that we have spent a night apart, odd that, we used to sometime go for a week without sleeping the in the same house at the same time very odd, at least it will be quiet

dd was trying to convince the Gherkin to do ballet and yoga today, very funny that

about shopping the only jacket I saw which fit what I am looking for is from Esprit, the website says it is out of my size, very annoying might have to go to Kingston, on the plus side can always look around in Office and Montezuma's, now there is a plan

OP posts:
pcworld · 13/09/2009 21:11

Sing, you are always so good with the cooking from scratch. I try hard but am not always so creative. We went out for tea today, needed a break! Yes, tis chilly already and am trying to resist putting the heating on just yet - until October, really. Had a nice walk along the river at Teddington today.

SFX, much better to try things on in real life if you have the chance plus a trip to Kingston is always nice. I'm really keen to get a new winter coat but am not sure if ds will tolerate even a short shopping trip so I may have to risk online. Had seen and tried on a coat in Monsoon but stupidly did not buy it at the time and now it is out of stock in my size online. Am predicting chilly, wet mornings standing around in parks this year! Have never experienced Montezumas, it sounds positively dangerous for the likes of me!

Has anyone been to Godstone Farm recently? The e-coli outbreak sounds horrendous, was just reading about it on the Times online.

Vbus, househunting is exciting! Hope you find something you like soon.

Babysitting circles are a good idea and I think a list of rules to follow is always a good plan, I'm in a local circle and it seems to work well.

dd starts school on Tuesday! She is very excited. ds and I will need to keep busy and so I am off now to investigate various activities

slng · 13/09/2009 22:08

I also want a new coat but already have a couple of coats that refuse to fall apart ...

DS2's nursery shut Wednesday so might make a trip somewhere. He has vetoed dinosaurs, so might try the discovery centre in Bracknell. Or something.

sfxmum · 14/09/2009 09:13

good morning all

I never gave much thought to how the baby sitting thing works so happy to learn

pcW the farm thing is horrible but don't even know where it is.
and will remember you like house hunting when the time comes for us, honestly one of the things I dread the most

pcW&slng about shopping, as much as I like clothes I can't stand shops I need to be forced to try things on and the assistants get on my nerves that is why I never go alone for major purchases

OP posts:
slng · 14/09/2009 09:24

Good morning.

Cleaner has gone AWOL for about a month now. Shall I look for a new cleaner?

sfx - I like shopping alone. I pretty much ignore everyone and am oblivious to shop assistants and other shoppers. It's the only way to do things.

sfxmum · 14/09/2009 09:36

AWOL? yes get another one pronto

about shop assistants on Saturday even with headphones on they bothered me

OP posts:
slng · 14/09/2009 10:09

Taking a break from cleaning

sfx - Perhaps I look too foreign for them to bother me. I usually smile and at most say "I'm just looking and will ask you if I need help". Then just look distracted.

mygreatauntgriselda · 14/09/2009 10:34

Slng yes I'd get another pronto. I often decide to sack ours but she always redeems herself and is a really nice person. Normally I get cross 'cos she is a wee bit unreliable, but then she does something fab like cleans the outside of the windows without me asking and I decide she is great

I'm deffo up for a night out at the end of this month (post payday)

sfxmum · 14/09/2009 19:24

thank auntie will have a look

slng I do try the no thanks just looking but heck seldom works satisfactorily guess I just get annoyed with the unsolicited help

dd is trying to delay bedtime to see daddy not a chance but she will try her hardest bless her

be finishing breaking dawn and watching the True Blood series 2 finale later
vampire overload but am sure will be bereft

will take up my study books for the final push from tomorrow I clearly need punishing

OP posts:
slng · 14/09/2009 21:05

sfx - people need to feel needed, so you have to convince shop assistants that they are valuable people and you would absolutely call upon them for their assistance when the time comes but meanwhile you would not dream of wasting their precious time. At least that is what I try to convey and hope they bite.

Happy reading breaking dawn. It's funny and so transparent.

slng · 14/09/2009 21:16

Will get on the outing thread soon. Am aching all over from bloody cleaning. Also want to moan about DS1's teacher/school - why oh why do they do a homework folder that is just slightly bigger than the book bag?

No aching arms is going to stop me moaning about this one. Just how lacking in foresight can you be. (Am refraining from stronger words...)

sfxmum · 14/09/2009 22:48

LOL yes I can see how that can be vexing

must take child to hairdressers and doctor for the booster not really looking forward must fit visit to cafe for cake in there somehow

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 15/09/2009 10:13

quick hello - v busy at work.

Struggling to get used to my mask for th ebreathing machine - sfx can confirm that its no easy task!

Dolly - I'm impressed that your elderly neighbour is so communicative - I think mine would have just enjoyed the show!

Will tey to make a night out as am beginning to feel better now that I'm getting 4-5 hours sleep consistently.

sfxmum · 15/09/2009 10:36

good morning all

just how blustery and rubbish is the weather!

can confirm KC mask is the stuff of my claustrophobic nightmares more suitable to deep sea diving

dd is saying I must get her up early tomorrow because if she she misses school her teacher will be sad

just keeping fingers crossed dd does not start crying as we walk into doctors
will do my best to pass on my 'I have no fear of needles' attitude

OP posts:
pcworld · 15/09/2009 13:31

OMG - what a great day! A perfect "welcome back to the school run" day! I see myself now joining the great mn debate for the "perfect school-run coat"

KC, hope you acclimatise to the mask soon and that it makes a big difference.

SFX - jabs are so horrid - dd was fine for her booster - I was a total wimp and got dh to take her! The nurse offered her a sticker afterwards and she refused "because the lady hurt me"! Hope your dd is ok.

I have just deposited dd for her first afternoon at school, she seemed fine going in.

Tilly, I need to email you, sorry I didn't get back to you properly yesterday, things have been blimmin' hectic here, mostly thanks to ds!

Off to peruse raincoats online when really I should be clearing up here plus preparing tea. I'll do that in half an hour

slng · 15/09/2009 14:53

Nearly school pickup time. It's raining, isn't it?

pcworld - what a principled young woman DD is!
Have you round the ideal raincoat? I have a Tchibo one that makes me look like a German tourist... and it's several sizes too big.

pcworld · 15/09/2009 19:31

Sing - I have decided that fashion has to go out the window if the weather continues like this! I shall mostly be looking like someone enveloped in a big, padded tent peering out from an unattractive hood.

slng · 15/09/2009 19:40

Hello!

I am sooooooo tired ...

pc - I have a coat that covers me from head to toe, and it's light and warm and has been described variously as a portable igloo and a jedi costume. I got it from M&S, boys section, many many moons ago. But I feel that I have got past the boy stage (as DS2 once said, when mummy grows up she'll be a boy ) and want a more feminine look. But it would be too wasteful to get rid of a perfectly serviceable coat.

vbus · 16/09/2009 09:32

morning

GP's gone, visit went well but we're all utterly exhausted, DS1 still asleep, good job we have afternoon sessions He starts today, so exciting!

PCW - how was DD's 1st day at school?

Sfx - good luck for miniSfx 1st day. Forgot to say I went to Montezuma cafe the other week, fabby place and got free truffles

KC - glad mask is helping, hope you're feeling more rested now

Slng - the coat described is the style that everyone wears in Sweden, too cold to go out with anything less than what looks like a duvet. Forgot to say, you've probably already made them by now but yes, just subs 1tbsp of flour with cocoa powder and hey presto you have your choc cake

For once I've actually bought a coat this autumn. Usually I get by with various jumpers/waterproofs and then manage until winter coat is required. Usually I can't find what I want and by the time I do it's almost winter. Pleased with purchase, will try it out today.

mygreatauntgriselda · 16/09/2009 10:45

Vbus hope the new coat served you well this morning.

PC lol at debate about the purfick school run coat

KC - 4/5 hours sleep? That's so little you poor thing (((hugs))), but glad you are beginning to feel a bit stronger

SFX saw your DH this morning, at station, while DS2 was train spotting. He waved your DH goodbye

Hope all those having their first day at school went well
