vbus, yay on card been found!

We had our school visit today as well which was good. Ds1 very chatty & showing off all his toys etc. Though did get very shy at the end when they asked if they could take a photo of him. But he seems very excited about it now. Only a week to go!!

Teachers are lovely actually, and found out there will only be 23 in his class

Slng, glad the first days are going well. Ime, it seems that dcs always make friends with children older than them!

Sfx, at books, hope I haven't given too much away for you. If I were you though, I'd just read them now & get it over & done with

vbus · 09/09/2009 17:48

I'm pleased there are still some good natured folk around, I thought I'd never see card again

Tilly - that is good news about visit. DS1 actually liked having his picture taken and kept repeatedly saying 'cheese'

I did penne with some variation on bolognese sauce, followed by the banana bread. It was yum!

sfxmum · 09/09/2009 17:55

tilly given that she is a Mormon and there is a baby involved am ready for much misery and not enough sex

OP posts:
slng · 09/09/2009 17:59

Hello!

Kids had grilled salmon for tea. We are having leftover leek and potato soup ... Funny kids love grilled or steamed fish but will not have fish-and-chips fish or fish fingers. They've obviously not read the manual. Banana bread sound yum... Haven't baked any sweet stuff for ages because of enormous ginger parkin baked last week and still not demolished.

vbus - so nice to have nice people doing nice things like returning lost cards! Almost restore your faith in humanity, doesn't it?

tilly/sfx - what books? I have to confess to reading the Twilight series on holiday because a friend gave them to me...

slng · 09/09/2009 18:00

Mormons? Babies? Misery? Not enough sex??? Curiouser and curiouser ...

sfxmum · 09/09/2009 18:06

slng those yes even if I promised myself I would not, be back on Anita Blake and Sookie soon

OP posts:
DollyDiamond · 09/09/2009 18:43

Hi Everyone! I'm new to this, so find it quite hard to follow your banter, but you do make me smile, so thank you for that and sorry if I sound like a moron!

My dd has shouted all the way home on the train for the last few days and I'm frazzled (I work in town and she comes with me to nursery there), so am thinking about a nursery in Richmond - do any of you knowledgable ladies have recommendations?

tillyfernackerpants · 09/09/2009 19:07

slng, yep the Twilight series, deffo not enough sex

Dolly, hiya, sorry no recommendations on nursery in Richmond but I'm sure someone will pop along soon who does.

Sfx, will definitely have to get the Sookie series, and more of the Anita Blake ones

sfxmum · 09/09/2009 19:29

Dolly dd used to go to this one and we were quite happy with it

but dd did not attend until she was 3, having said that I know a few parents who used it since babyhood who recommend it

OP posts:
DollyDiamond · 09/09/2009 19:41

Thanks SFX, much appreciated!

vbus · 09/09/2009 19:59

Hello Dolly, tell us some about yourself I'm a SAHM in Teddington with a 3.9yr old and almost 10mth old, keeps me more than busy
I know 2 people who used the Kids Academy in Richmond, no 1st hand experience myself but they loved it.

Slng - DS1 hasn't eaten a fish finger for months but does love fish from the chippy

Was thinking of putting Twilight on my never ending book list, any good (regardless of lack of sex)?

sfxmum · 09/09/2009 20:15

change of plan regarding running dh needs to leave early but thankfully be home early so I can actually go for a longer run in the afternoon
hurrah!

vbus so far I have enjoyed it if you don't mind the lack of sex and them not being very well written but it is pacy and it is all very dramatic in a teen first absolute love kinda stuff, I watched the film the other day and that boy s pretty, slightly disconcerting having him on my head while reading the book but I guess could be worst

dolly am in Kew with a 4yr old dd am currently SAHM but expect not for long since retirement age looms and so on

OP posts:
vbus · 09/09/2009 20:36

Sfx - LOL, have deliberately not watched film yet as wanted to read book first otherwise would also have preconceived images floating raound my head

You've probably guessed I didn't make it to art class, couldn't get in touch with teacher at short notice Will have to start next week instead. Must be fate, means I can have an early night. (Pre kids looking fwd to an early night would be considered social suicide )

sfxmum · 09/09/2009 20:52

oh shame vbus

must decide book or study / study or book? about the boy vampire he actually has 2 songs in soundtrack quite good too

slng · 09/09/2009 21:36

Hello!

Dolly - I'm in Hanwell so don't know about Richmond childcare ... I work about 15 miles away, and decided to have childcare near where I live rather than where I work for the simple reason that if I decide to skive off without kids for a day at least I can. But the downside is the panic if there is traffic jam on the way home to collect them.

vbus - you can have my set of Twilight books if you want. I like the first one - quite funny with knowing vampire stuff. I like the last one too - quite funny too but won't give it away now ... All very teen though. Brain candy. I read through all of them in about 5 days between going to the beach and eating ice creams. I'm trying to read an Inspector Dagliesh book but can't get my head round the not being in Edinburgh business (have been overdosing on Rebus).

We watched a bit of "The sound of music" today, until the bit where Maria meets the children:

Picture opening scene:
Julie Andrews: The hills are alive with the sound of MU ...
DS2: DS1 DS1 DS1!!! Did you hear what she said!!?? She said MOOOOOO!!!!

After Maria meets children and DVD turned off:
Me: What do you think the children are going to do next?
DS2: They are going to grow up as big as polar bears and eat up Maria.

tillyfernackerpants · 10/09/2009 06:25

slng

vbus, another offer for the books here! I enjoyed them when I read them but now can't see what the fuss is about

Haven't watched the film yet, no doubt will do so at some point

sfxmum · 10/09/2009 08:44

good morning all

slng I was brought up on a lot of Sound of Music in fact I think my mum was heavily pregnant with me when she first saw it
I do tend to dissolve into giggles when she spins around in the hills, obviously on drugs

dd knows the songs from nursery

about the books I liked the second most so far, big fan of miserable heartbreak, am finding the first disturbing

has anyone read Joseph O'Neill? loved Netherland

OP posts:
sfxmum · 10/09/2009 08:46

I meant finding the third disturbing

must go feed self now
btw choose and sorted out my next course last night, this must be why I feel like running away now

OP posts:
slng · 10/09/2009 09:37

good morning!

I was also brought up on Sound of Music. Not sure if kids will watch the rest. We have too many things to watch ...

Not sure those books bear too much analysis ... I get a bit impatient with all this control/jealousy business. But not as impatient as I get with the stupidity of almost everybody except Hermoine in the Harry Potter series ... Still, nobody held a gun to my head to make me read them, eh?

Laundry done. A snack and back to work...

slng · 10/09/2009 09:47

Obviously not working yet - just watched the Buffy vs Edward vid... NOW TO WORK!!!!

vbus · 10/09/2009 09:48

Slng - LOL

I cried after I 1st saw SOM as I didn't want it to finish Just to clarify I was about 4 at the time

Slng/Tilly - Thanks for offer of books will gladly borrow, just need to finish current book first.

Sfx - are you relieved you made your decision? What did you go for?

Off to baby clinic and shoe shopping soon, oh the joys...

sfxmum · 10/09/2009 10:15

vbus not relieved yet no, just feels like am being propelled down a path really but it is good to have option and a few solid foundations

enough with the cryptic

shopping arrived so might be able to drag dd out

Hello!

Been working till now! But have twilight the movie on in the background Don't think I could stand just watching the movie and not doing anything else though. This multitasking business is addictive (plus movie not that exciting...). I never just do one thing. Is it nice?

Come back sfx! I'm finished with work!
