I don't like all these school toys business. I resent intrusion of institutions into our home. We have plenty of toys. Better ones too. So kindly f**k off, is what I want to say, but superior upbringing (but not superior grammar) prevents me.

slng · 15/08/2009 10:52

And I'm not even remotely grumpy this morning!

Off to make spicy sichuan potato salad for lunch guests.

sfxmum · 15/08/2009 17:14

slng are you still grumpy? lunch sounds good

we might go to the London Mela in Gunnersbury park dd likes the rides

will now try my hit and miss toad in the hole, hope it is a hit this time

tillyfernackerpants · 15/08/2009 17:24

sfx lol, were they even walking in the right direction?!

Been to Kew today, quite empty, C&C was actually bearable, & we managed to divert ds1 from the £4 face painting !

sfxmum · 15/08/2009 18:30

they were going in the right direction just not very fast, when I was just starting heading out to Kew bridge, I met them a few yards down the path then on my way back they were about to reach Chiswick bridge
I expect they will enjoy a late night dinner at Westminster

Lunch was good. Great company, good food (even if I said so myself) and fantastic puddings (yes, multiple puddings!)

I remember once walking from soho back to Ealing. Took us about 6 hours. But we did stop at quite a few pubs ...

vbus · 16/08/2009 18:26

Hello all

Slng - sounds nice ,did teddy get to try any of the food?

Sfx - LOL, I wonder if they made it

Been at Kew all day which was fab, lovely weather

Hope everyone enjoying the sun

We are planning Kew tomorrow pm with picnic tea.

sfxmum · 17/08/2009 11:34

have not even left the house and am already tired ok lets sort out a packed lunch

OP posts:
slng · 17/08/2009 12:10

sfx - hope you are not going to poison your family with ham.

pcworld · 17/08/2009 13:35

Tilly, we should be around Thurs afternoon if you fancy doing something.

Had a good weekend with family and spent yesterday in Cov Gdn. Nipped into Lincolns Inn Fields for ds to have a run-around and literally bumped into Miranda Richardson in full 60s get up and a massive 60s film set with all the old cars etc, it was really interesting! They were shooting a scene for a film about the Dagenham car workers' strike in the 60s, I guess it must have been a court scene.

vbus · 17/08/2009 15:00

PCW - sounds v.exciting! will you and DS be extras in the background?

Reminds me of when DH & I were wandering a round London and we wanted to get a drink from a newsagent. We couldn't get into the shop because they were in the middle of filming Bridget Jones, the scene in the newsagent!

Slng - ham story is just ridiculous!

Out all morning, just chilling in garden now. Our babysitter has cancelled for sat night anyone know any babysitters?

pcworld · 17/08/2009 16:11

vbus, I would offer my services but think dh and I are also going to struggle for a babysitter on Sat night. Apparently sitters dot co dot uk are good although I expect that could be an expensive option. But you could give them a try if you are seriously stuck.

sfxmum · 17/08/2009 16:16

hello Marble Hill was nice but had to be quite firm for dd to leave

slng -no ham in our packed lunch we are meat eaters now, after years of being a vegan and vegetarian we still only really eat simple cuts of meat rarely cured or processed except I like chorizo once in a while on my cabbage soup or bean stew

pcW very interesting find film sets very amused no one ever seems to be doing anything other than drinking coffee

vbus sorry no babysitters we only use our niece and she is in Paris this week

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 17/08/2009 17:37

vbus/pcw, sitters is very expensive I found, you have to pay a 3-monthly fee to sign up as well as pay the sitter, which iirc was around £6 p.h! I'm free on Saturday & happy to help out if either of you are stuck

Nursery sprung on me today that they're doing a mad hatter's tea party tomorrow so I need some kind of costume for ds1 & a snack for him to share with everyone . Given that the shops here are rather limited I'm hoping to come up with something using crepe paper & tin foil, guess I'd better get used to this for when he starts school!

vbus · 17/08/2009 19:25

PCW/Tilly - We have used Sitters in the past but they are expensive. Was considering them but we have no other nights out planned so not worth paying the 3mth fee. It's not so economical to pay qtrly fee unless you use the sitter regularly.

Tilly - thanks so much for your kind offer. I'll speak to Dh tonight and see what he wants to do and give you a shout.

Bit naughty they've only just told you about the tea party. Maybe you can make DS1 some bunny ears and put on a bow tie for his outfit, he can go as the hare!

Sfx - Glad you enjoyed MH. The only way I can coax DS1 out of MH is if we stay til the end then he has no choice but to leave, but invariably we're still the last to leave the place

slng · 17/08/2009 19:32

Hello!

Baked Chelsea buns. Very sweet ... Now a beef rendang on the brew for tea. Yum yum yum.

We are going to Kew gardens tomorrow morning with DS1's little friends. Anyone else? Picnic lunch, I think. Shall I take a push chair instead of lugging things about like a pack horse?

sfxmum · 17/08/2009 19:49

tilly that is shocking short notice just send him with a teapot

slng Kew Gardens only at around 2pm if the weather as hot as forecast I take a buggy when doing a picnic, and because dd takes ages walking home and I invariably carry her some of the way

vbus after the usual we are leaving soon, and negotiating how many plays before leaving dd still refuses I just said you either 'leave now or we will not come back next week' harsh I know but consequences
she agreed promptly but I do follow through

this is essay writing week so must sort myself out

OP posts:
vbus · 17/08/2009 20:03

Slng - DS1 at preschool in morning so can't make it, have fun though. Deffo take pushchair, why make life difficult for yourself

Sfx - I sometimes have to take the same approach with DS1, at least then he realises there are consequences to his actions

Half way through 24 series 5, try to finish as fast as possible, I'm already racking up the charges at the library as it's taking so long to watch better watch some more now & try and finish by this wkend

tillyfernackerpants · 17/08/2009 20:15

sfx/vbus, similar conversations here as well, though generally around the number of minutes he has left, I say '10 mins more', ds1 replies with 'no 5 mins'

slng, can't make tomorrow unfortunately

For costume, I've decided to put ds1 in a shirt, get one of dh's uglier ties on him, some kind of hat & a bamboo stick wrapped in foil. That will have to do!
