Thanks everyone.

SJ- Enjoy your class

Slng - Yup. You'll be our closest neighbour.

Kew - Thanks for the warning.

slng · 20/05/2009 20:23

Had kiddies birthday do today. Quite nice sitting around chatting with mums of other kids. But not so easy getting tired kids home to be cleaned and bedded...

Mellow - good luck with move. Let us know if you need help. I'm secretly wondering [nosey] if you've bought my friends' house - they've just sold their house ...

Curry brewing atm. Anything good on telly? I'm sick of not having a good excuse for a tv dinner.

sfxmum · 20/05/2009 21:14

slng watching extremelly silly Eleventh hour probably followed by CSI or more likely my book

mind not up to much atm

SJ hope class was nice and motivating

slng · 20/05/2009 21:20

Am watching the Apprentice. Very silly program.

sfxmum · 20/05/2009 21:23

no no no reality tv for me and can't stand Alan Sugar makes most wannabe managers with very little power utterly vile

OP posts:
slng · 20/05/2009 22:09

This one's funny though, selling stuff at the baby show. They are such a nasty bunch. And not the brightest. But it's true. Not watching any more of this.

tillyfernackerpants · 21/05/2009 07:58

Have to admit we do watch the Apprentice

sj, hope your art class was good

mellow, congratulations on the move! Hope it all goes smoothly, I'm around if you need help with anything

sfx, haven't watched Dollhouse yet. Have it taped though the reviews don't look encouraging . How's the course?

Quietish day for us, ds1 has his swimming lesson today which always tires him out.

slng · 21/05/2009 08:23

Good-to-middling morning!

Already made sushi for DS1's packed lunch. I think it's down hill from here ...

sfxmum · 21/05/2009 11:26

good morning all

hope everyone is well

tilly study going ok, thanks, I seem to be well on top of it, first essay due next week

Hello all

Sfx - Glad you're course is going well. [embarrassed] at wee incident

Tilly - how is your training going?

KC - thanks for warning

Art class was fantastic, I really enjoyed it and learnt loads already

Yesterday Ds1 asked me how to spell 'Make your kitchen sparkle and clean' (I'm guessing he got that from Big Cook Little cook) so I wrote it on his easel so he could see. When I got back from art class the kitchen was spotless, apparently DH thought I'd left the message for him so he cleaned everything while I was out, what a result

MrsRecycle · 21/05/2009 12:44

sj, what a result! Must try that one. Glad you enjoyed the class. I'm looking forward to my class when we move - Pole Dancing - yes really!!! Meant to be good for the abs.

Another one who can't stand the Apprentice!

mellow2 · 21/05/2009 14:02

SJ - That's a fantastic idea. I must try that too. Great to hear that you enjoyed the art class.

slng - Don't think it would be your friend as vendor is a little old lady who's moving in with family.

As a rule, I abhor reality shows and the Apprentice is no exception.

sfxmum · 21/05/2009 14:16

SJ obviously clear instructions is the way to go

anyone for Kew tomorrow? looks like nice weather

OP posts:
slng · 21/05/2009 14:47

SJ - great result!

Mellow - friends definitely not little old lady...

sfx - could be tempted with Kew for tomorrow. Will consult with the little bosses.

tillyfernackerpants · 21/05/2009 16:32

Sj, lol, must try that one day! Glad the art class went well. Course is going well, thanks for asking. If I carry on as I am doing then I'll probably be starting my teaching practice by October

Might be up for Kew tomorrow, though would be in the afternoon for us as have a friend coming round in the morning

SJ99 · 21/05/2009 19:28

Tilly - wow, teaching in Oct, that is great progress!

Could be up for Kew tom, what time are you all thinking of going? can only do am after drop off or pm with both boys

Am pissed off. I spoke to nursery admissions today about another matter but got talking about potty training, they say DS has to be fully toilet trained otherwise he can't attend I was quite relaxed about the whole potty training but suddenly feel quite stressed. We moved here so he could get into that school and then had the stress of whether he'd get a place as school is oversubscribed and now potentially he might not be able to go after all, and he wouldn't have a place at his current setting either I know I still have 3mths to go but now feel anxious about the whole situation. if it's not one thing it really is another

slng · 21/05/2009 19:56

Hello!

If we do Kew it would be after school, about 3pm. But forecast light rain early afternoon, so we'll see... We want the tree walk and the giant bamboo.

SJ - I thought this potty-trained-for-nursery business is against certain anti-discrimination laws? And you've got 3 months - a lot happens in 3 months for a boy this age. When it clicks it can work really quickly. Also if he's only going 2.5 hours (is he?) he might be able to cope, even with pull-ups. Or is that cheating?

Looking forward to tomorrow but fear that I might be tired and grumpy ... Any cure for that? Coffee only puts me to sleep. Need stronger drugs ...

sfxmum · 21/05/2009 20:02

tilly that is fantastic

SJ am sure it is not that strict besides DS is likely to be ready anyway and you will get it sorted

SJ&slng I am fairly flexible but usually I get there at about 11/12 and like to be home before 5pm but we will see how it works tomorrow
dd wants to run around in her ladybird outfit

OP posts:
SJ99 · 21/05/2009 20:27

Thanks for your support both. Tbh I was quite surprised about how strict their policy was and given how popular the school is I guess they'd have no trouble filling the place. My friend is nursery teacher and says there are 3 boys in her class of 24 in nappies plus 2 in the reception yr and said this is quite common. Anyway will have to see how it goes but will need back up plan if it's not working out. Maybe the pull ups idea would work!

LOL at minisfx. I can come at either 10am or 1pm

Slng - have some red bull before you come out!

slng · 21/05/2009 21:02

SJ - don't like redbull.... Any other suggestions? As for potty-training, if DS1 is ready then it's only a question of figuring out the most effective bribes... Have to say it was the only time we used sticker charts. Hate them.

I can't believe what I've just done - was trying to "divide the roots" of a pot of mint, and ended up hacking it quite violently. My arms are still shaking ... They don't tell you like it is, do they? "Divide"! More like murder.

Must have sustenance now. Toast with coconut jam might be just the thing after massacring mint.

MrsRecycle · 22/05/2009 07:14

Hope you have recovered from your mint attack slng!

Sj - there are a few private nurseries around here with the same policy. People just used to say their lo's were toilet trained but send them in with plenty of spare clothing. Now the weather is brightening up, can you leave ds1 bottomless and get him used to potty/toilet. I always tt mylot in spells of good weather. Second the rewards/stickers. Also never did pull-ups - they don't like having wet clothes and stop messing themselves pretty quick. The turning point is normally a week.

tillyfernackerpants · 22/05/2009 07:33

Sj, I second MRsR's suggestion. Whenever we were home, I'd take off ds1's trousers & nappy & just leave him to it. I also found he was more willing to use it if I didn't say anything to him about the potty! Good luck, though if the pressure of it all is too much I would go for the pull-ups/spare clothes option.

The stickers didn't work for us. As soon as ds1 twigged the stickers he'd be there trying to squeeze out the tiniest drop, I got worried he was actually going to hurt himself!

Slng, how about lots of strong coffee? Hope you've recovered from the mint hacking (you beast you!)

mellow2 · 22/05/2009 07:38

SJ - I agree with Mrs R. For dd, we took off nappies and within a week we had success as she didn't like to be wet. I guess the thing to keep in mind is that there will be accidents afters for a few mths. They forget to tell u when they are too busy playing etc, and is not a relapse. That went on for about a yr with us as dd was toilet trained early.

Definitely a lot can happen in 3 months.

AnotherMuesliPleaseBarman · 22/05/2009 08:37

Hi all,

Just a quickie to say really looking forward to tonight! Have my bro here over from Singapore at the moment so that's keeping me offline - it's the first time he's met DS!

tillyfernackerpants · 22/05/2009 09:19

Have a good time tonight

I think I'll have to pass on Kew today as well. Got loads to do before we leave tonight, not least I have to remember to collect our wedding outfits from the dry cleaners!
