morning all. Glad you had a lovely birthday Mellow - it does give it away on fb as you are a member of the HN group LOL.

Rofl about Joseph mk2 slng!

Pc sorry to hear about ds hope he gets better soon (and you).

Went to see DDs in show last night and am astounded that the only two solos were filled by my two. They did it note perfect. Dd2 had such an angelic voice singing Away in a Manger. Watch out Charlotte Church ! (now we'll find out if she is a mnetter)

SushiMummy · 10/12/2008 10:09

Morning all.

Mellow - happy birthday! Glad you had a nice day.

MrsR - the show sounds lovely. You must be v proud of your little ones.

pcworld/sfx - hope respective DCs feel better soon.

A v close friend of ours who lives in China (an expat) came to see us last night and announced he has adopted a girl in China. She is only 6 weeks old and absolutely gorgeous! Apparently just after she was born the parents ran away from the hospital without a trace.

sparklyxmasfairy · 10/12/2008 11:51

good morning all

sushi what a lovely gift wishing them all the best

mrsR well done dd's maybe the Camber shows gave them the bug I expect you are very proud

mellow will email soon just in for a bit them to pick up dd

speaking of minisparly she woke up quite refreshed and seems ok today, went off to nursery quite happily, we had a difficult day yesterday and I felt really guilty for getting unreasonably annoyed

hope everyone is well, any news of Ros or KC's wondering platelets?

sparklyxmasfairy · 10/12/2008 11:53

am btw can't remember who was telling me about 'the baby talk' with toddlers at the weekend but dd told me this morning

  • I have a baby in my bits?
  • what do you mean?
  • well it was in my tummy and I pushed it down

noticed I never told her the appropriate name for bits

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 10/12/2008 13:44

LOL SFX - tereare some hilarious threads about "appropriate names fo bits!!"

MRSR - two little stats !!!

DD had her nativity this morning and played the back end of a camel.

Its a key role

She was very good natured about it though and didn't get the hump

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 10/12/2008 13:46

Stars not Stats

The Fat Toddler is destined to become a Stat - I keep telling him he is obese and will become a government stat

AtheneNoctua · 10/12/2008 17:48

Slng, I and shocked at your school's disorganisation. I thought mine was bad. But I think now that I should stop complaining.

MrsR, that great about your DDs and their solos. I don't think there's any hope for either of my kids in that department -- not if they take after me anyway.

It is now common knowledge aroung my work that I am leaving. It's kind of nice that so many people have come round to say they are sorry I'm going. I think my favourite response was the guy who looked shocked and then said "oh shit!".

Sushi, I think it is fairly common in China to leave girls on the step of an orphanage -- and then go back and try again for a boy. It's horrible and sad but it happens. And that baby girl is probably better off being raised by someone who wants her.

pcworld · 10/12/2008 18:41

Ros, congratulations on the pre-Christmas special delivery

Well we have had the mother of all tantrums from dd tonight, she has started refusing baths. It really was something else. Not used to this, will have to reach for a manual on "how to deal with" I think! ds seems to be on the mend and I have a stinking cold. How early can man-flu start? He was 8 months old last week.

stepfordwife · 10/12/2008 18:45

congratulations, ros
lovely name and hope you're all well and happy
enjoy!

sparklyxmasfairy · 10/12/2008 18:59

congratulations Ros

pcW goodness at precocious man flu

mellow thanks for my stuff and the aquadraw
nice to see you 2 earlier

dd seems to have a mild case of conjunctivitis

  • is that something that keeps the from school?
we got some drops which apparently can be sold over the counter

dh got a new job which is a good promotion, details to be worked out, he is very pleased with himself

pcworld · 10/12/2008 19:11

SFX, congrats on new job - good news

Ref. conjunctivitis, I believe it is v contagious so school may want you to keep dd away until it is gone.

sparklyxmasfairy · 10/12/2008 19:22

thanks pcW had a look around and apparently bacterial kind, which dd has is ok, viral kind nasty contagious but will call them and ask

slng · 10/12/2008 19:41

What's all that congratulations to Ros about? Do I take it that babyRos has arrived? In that case congratulations! Or is it just some long-awaited online shopping delivery?? Seems a bit of an overreaction in that case, if you ask me.

sparkly - we were plagued by bacterial conjunctivitis last summer. DS1 had it really bad but DS2 only mildly. I was told

  1. by nursery manager: "That's the trouble having children so young - you don't know all the traditional remedies. Just wipe their eyes with salt water and they would have been fine by now." I sometimes wonder why the murder rate is so low.

  2. by GP receptionist: "That's not an emergency"

  3. by GP when I saw her after battling down receptionist: "Oooo that's really bad. Have some antibiotics."

I have resorted to snake oil - euphrasia pills. So far we have been fine. Touch wood...

sparklyxmasfairy · 10/12/2008 19:50

slng your education 'professionals' are a bit out of Roal Dahl aren't they
and yes murder rate remarkable low

Ros baby arrived but wil let her come on with the details ... and pictures

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 10/12/2008 20:05

athene - not quite as simple as parents not wanting the baby - any second child in china results in a hefty fine to parents so in rural areas where a) people rely on their son to support them in old age b) can't afford to pay the fine, the only other alternative to abandonment is abortion.

Babies are quite often left where they will be found quickly and parens quite commonly keep them at home for a few days if they can stretch it nefore abandoning. If they try to hide the child and keep it, then there is no access to education or healthcare for that child... ever.

Chinese mothers don't feel any differently to us about their newborns, often they are desperate to keep them but financially it would push the family into starvation.

Boys are abandoned too btw about 5% of Chinese adoptions are boys

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 10/12/2008 21:02

OOoooooh Ros - congratulations

Another newborn!!!!

QC that is so sad isn't it?

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 10/12/2008 21:04

Slng have some unopened Chloremphenicol eye drops [sp} if you need it

Got from GP about 2 weeks ago and put in fridge and never needed as it went by itself

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 10/12/2008 21:12

The Fat Toddler attended DD's nativity this morning and behaved like a mini-beast the whole way through

He decided to be the warm up act and ran around on the stage shouting until the play began.

When they sang, he bellowed
When they clapped he clapped and shouted loudly
He grabbed all the school biscuits off the plate and ran off with them
He hurled my purse across the gang way about 10 times
He hurled my keys at the infant children just as they entered the stage
Farted really louly during a prayer

He is a beast

mellow2 · 10/12/2008 21:21

Ros - Congratulations on the new baby!

Sxf - It was good to see dd and you too. Hope dd wasn't tearful for too long. Congrats on dh's promotion. Is it another contract?

OP posts:
mellow2 · 10/12/2008 21:29

Griselda - It's really funny how you have characterised ds2 as the fat toddler.

OP posts:
sparklyxmasfairy · 10/12/2008 21:37

LOL at mini beastie auntie

mellow she was a bit cranky and tearful but ok in the end went t sleep very quickly
regarding dh it is sort of an interim position as the current incumbent is leaving, they want to change the role so he will see how it goes, not too keen on a very permanent position, he wants to do it for experience sake

being dh is is feeling upset that so many around him were laid off this week and has been buying chocolates and booze for them

sparklyxmasfairy · 10/12/2008 21:39

and she is also quite certain that mini mellow and gherkin are her little brother and sister

failing that or maybe as a back up plan she has been giving birth all day

SushiMummy · 11/12/2008 09:33

Congratulations, Ros! So is it a boy or girl? I'm soooo happy for Ros and her family.

sfx - congrats on DH's job. It's like an early xmas present, isn't it? Hope DD gets better soon.

QC/Athene - the friend said there are so many babies getting abandoned at birth, the adoption process is pretty quick for local people as they are used to dealing with them. His partner is chinese (they are getting married soon) and when the hospital realised that the baby was abandoned, they got in touch with the partner's family straight away and the paper work was completed within a few weeks and the following month the baby arrived at their home.

Good morning!

Auntie - LOL at the Fat Toddler, esp farting during prayer! What a star! Quite rightly too. After all it's a God-given bodily function .

sparkly - congrats on DH's job! There's been several rounds of "culling" at Dh's office. In fact, one more today. We'll see if we've got an earlier-than-expected Christmas holiday.

sushi for your friends and new baby. for birth parents of baby ... Cannot even imagine what they must be feeling. But perhaps the best for baby. Who knows.
