QC, I don't think I said it was simple or that the mums are not attached to the baby. I just think it is sad that boys are more valuable than girls and so girls are left to be raised by someone else. And I think is trajic that is a common practice.

My SIL's XH and his current wife adopted a baby (girl) from China about 10 years ago. It was quite a long and expensive process. So, that's nice to hear it is a faster process for those who are local.

Obviously, QC, you know far more than I do about adoption. I really wasn't passing judgement on anyone. Just commenting that is both sad and common practice in China.

I do think the parents usually try to do the best they can when they hand over the child, leaving medical records and anything else they think might benefit the child.

tragic

sparklyxmasfairy · 11/12/2008 11:48

good morning all

slng fingers crossed for the job I expect from now until April there will be a lot of those but who knows

dd was ok this morning, not a very restful night but no discharge this morning so she went off to nursery and I went running

have an essay to do before Christmas for the end of this course but can't quite get it together it seems

bunyan how are things today?

hope everyone is well

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 11/12/2008 12:01

SFX is your DH still at that council near me?

  • they have a 100 recently announced redundancies

Its impossible to get cross with the Fat Toddler as he is so smiley and cute. He just never slows down until he falls asleep! I'm sure he is a compulsive eater as well.

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 11/12/2008 12:02

I was responding to your commetn about better for the child to be where they are wanted really - its a mistake to think they weren't wanted by their parents particularly in China where parents are generally married and sometimes already have a child.

Interestingly in urban areas where people are becoming more affluent, more people are able to pay the fine and keep the second child and are less worried about needing a boy to support them in their old age.

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 11/12/2008 12:04

I think its generally (in the absence of abuse) best for baby to stay with birth parents. But that isn't always possible, for many reasons.

sparklyxmasfairy · 11/12/2008 12:09

auntie yes that is where dh still works very sad people all around him this week. but given recent events the head of children services want him to stay and lead a new project in a specific area where I think founding will be available for the foreseeable future, we will see

AtheneNoctua · 11/12/2008 12:14

Ah, sorry. I didn't really mean it like that but see now how it was poorly written. I meant that the girl is better off growing up in a society where girls are valued as much as boys.

Also, there is some evidence that in cultures where girls are not as valuable as boys, and the girl population decline (whether by abortion or adoption) then the girls are then treated better. I guess it is a matter of supply and demand. So there is actually some good to come of the girls being adopted outside the community which does not value them as much as the boys. Good for the girl who was adopted and also good for the girls who remain.

Anyone, I'm probably rambling now.

And SFX, congrats to your DH. HAppy Christmas to Me is exactly how I feel about getting a new job. Best present I could possibly get.

Have we rescheduled the Mammia night? I'm looking forward to it and really hope it is on a night I can make. I have seen most of you in AGES.

sparklyxmasfairy · 11/12/2008 12:24

yes night out of some sort we should do something before the new year even if very small bring your own nibbles etc

I think we are often very lucky in the west and in this country, all these choices and advantages, it pains me when people are not appreciative of that and of their rights and just blindly throw them away

sparklyxmasfairy · 11/12/2008 12:27

btw I know the weather forecast is dire but is anyone going to Kew on Saturday for Santa and Carols? I can't go on Sunday

must go pick up the fairy princess I expect she will crash on the sofa for the rest of the afternoon

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 11/12/2008 12:58

SFX I so much agree - we are so privilaged in this country and enjoy many freedoms that other people just don't have - especially as women

I'd like to do Kew on Saturday as they have loads of fantastic stuff on but we have swimming and then DD has an afternoon party - just can't fit it all in

Might do Kew on Sat 20th though, if I can muster the energy to drag the brood down there

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 11/12/2008 12:59

I'm thinking of going on Saturday but much to be done so not decided yet.

rosmerta · 11/12/2008 15:20

Hi all, just popping in briefly while ds2 is asleep! We're all ok, if a bit tired. Ds1 has been very sweet with his little brother, if a little energetic when realising he could rock the car seat! I'll try & put up some photos later.

Hope you're all ok, I'll catch up soon!

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 11/12/2008 16:21

Ros lovely to hear from you and glad you are all well

A newborn boy - aww how cute!!

DD and the Fat Toddler keep wrecking our tree
DD climbed on the window sill to try and reach the fairy and pulled the whole tree down

She also decided to undress the tree and re-dress it

Chaos reigns in Fat Toddler Towers

MaSTARRecycle · 11/12/2008 16:35

Auntie ur dd and dd2 must be twins, exactly what she is doing at the moment! Oh have brace on - how on earth do you manage to talk with it and not sound drunk?

Ds not very well so he came with me to meet dishy dentist.

stepfordwife · 11/12/2008 17:06

lovely to hear from you, ros
yes, details soon please..

happy (belated) birthday, mellow

lol at toddler antics, auntie, they truly are bonkers - and delightful for it

hi everyone else

bloody hectic her with two work deadlines this week; building work limping on and BLOODY TOO MUCH GOING ON AT SCHOOL - BAH HUMBUG...sorry for shouting
as you were.. contemplating giving myself next week off work..

then i remembered the little matter of my woefully neglected accounts..cue heavy sigh...
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 11/12/2008 17:06

is it too early for glug glug hour?

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 11/12/2008 18:38

Steppy - Glug Glug - ours traditionally commences at 17.01!! So you are in luck!

MrsR - I normally take the Fat Toddler with m - dishy dentist is great with Kids isn't he?

I'm going there on Monday so that Mr Patel can try and sort my dodgy root canal filling out. Apparently one of mine is blocked at the end, which is causing infection. Dishy dentist is pulling all the teeth stops out to try and get it sorted

BTW you will always talk funny with the brace on.I found myself speaking much more slowly when I was wearing it too

Mello Happy belated birthday!!

I had a funny turn this morning whilst swimming -tight chest, heart racing, dizzy - 'Twas a bit scarey - lasted about 90 minutes and had to get a First Aider at work to stay with me while I lay down

Am feeling better now though and going out for meal with school mums

mellow2 · 11/12/2008 18:56

Thanks everyone.

Hello ros - Would love to see photos too!

PCWorld - Hope you and your family are better.

SJ - Sent you a text.

Steppie - Don't think there's any problem with glug glug as long as it's after 12 noon.

mellow2 · 11/12/2008 18:57

Thanks for all the belated b'day wishes too!

OP posts:
mellow2 · 11/12/2008 18:57

Griselda - Do you know what caused the funny turn?

OP posts:
MaSTARRecycle · 11/12/2008 19:18

Auntie - dh and I had a similar thing a week or so ago. He thought I was putting it on and then he experienced exactly the same - palpations as well. I think it is a bug that is doing the rounds but I was scared I was having a heart attack (feels like that doesn't it!). It took us a couple of days to get over it so take it easy. Hope they finally fix your root canal, must be agony.

My poor ds still not at all well - can't breath poor thing so I've had to rock him to sleep.
