sfxmum · 14/12/2007 22:16

oh that thread on supermarket substitutions just reminded me that Tesco have twice replaced Arborio rice for Basmati rice in my order! wtf?!

rosmincepieeater · 15/12/2007 09:17

lol at supermarket substitutions, I always remembering asking for some fresh veg and getting tinned instead!

Steppie, good catch! I'm afraid I would've just let it go onto the floor , though I would've cleaned it up!

Ds seems to have become addicted to Balamory, keeps asking 'More, more' and waving his hand. But as I only have one episode he has to keep watching that one, I think he's seen it about 5 times now!

Anyway, am going to take ds to the park this morning and do some bits and pieces. I'm still up for Kew later but will probably go once he's woken up from his nap and then leave shortly after tea.

stepfordwife · 15/12/2007 09:53

morning all
how you all diddling?

paddle, hope dd is OK. she's had a real run of being poorly, hasn't she? poor little thing (and poor you!)
did h come round? don't weaste any mind space on worrying about txting him - you did it becuase it was best for dd at the time.

ros..it was more a reflex action than anything else, tbh
funnily enouigh dd keeps singing 'balamoooooRYYYYYYY" at the top of her voice although rarely watches it..

foxie..how was D.I.S.C.O.? i'm already suffering from Embarrassing Mum Dancing at Wedding Syndrome

kew...did you survive THE MOVE..

will have to play it by ear on kew gdns this evening..
so, if i go, see you there and if not, have a fab time..
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 15/12/2007 09:55

sfx...one generally has coffee with their croissants, not wine...
mind you, it is christmas..

foxcubinapeartree · 15/12/2007 09:59

What time is the Kew thing? I am beginning to think I would rather meet you lot than attend my neighbours meet up - Kew would be fun, whereas I think the street event will involve me volunteering for something [over-stretched Mum emoticon]

stepfordwife · 15/12/2007 10:04

think it's 5-7.30pm, foxie, with a carol service at 6.30pm.
but kew did a link somewhere in the thread..

sorry, am gearing up for the X factor final tonight

foxcubinapeartree · 15/12/2007 10:26

Steppy I am embarrassed to say that the school D.I.S.C.O. is very much the highlight of my social calendar this time of year!!

It is rather excellent - very buzzy atmosphere with a bar and food - so the parents can all get rat arsed while the children and a few brave Mums disco dance the night away.

DS1 spent much of the evening rolling on the floor in a bundle of small boys.

DD spent the evening dancing with what looked like a gaggle of small fairies - all in very similar party dresses.

I drank wine and gossiped while DH cuddled DS2 to sleep, having fed him a huge slice of pizza margherita.

The grand finale every year is 10 minutes before the end when the lights go down. In the distance you hear the sound of jingle bells as Santa's sleigh approaches....the lights suddenly come on and Santa is in the middle of the room in full regalia.

You then hear the highest pitched sustained squealing ever, as 250 children stampede Santa and chase him round the hall. A bit like the Hockey Cokey but dressed in red with bells on. At this point I have to grab DD and stay close to other small children as it all gets a bit mental. A few years ago, DS1 and another little boy fell over and were nearly trampled on (I had to pull them both out from beneath 500 small excited feet)

OOOOH AAAHH despite the H&S hazards its all very lovely though

stepfordwife · 15/12/2007 10:41

sounds fab..although that santa deserves danger money!

while some people bang on about 'losing independence" etc, etc, when you have children, i think a huge advanatge is how easily you're pleased these days...i remember dancing to 'bob the builder" at a 'family hotel' during a disco with all the enthusiasm of being at a gig

anyhow, foxie, wasn't you who saidf you were....gasp...going to a 'grown-up" party soon???!!

stepfordwife · 15/12/2007 10:42

oh..or was that the disco?!
right off with ds1 for some one-to-one time..sure that can be achieved over cappuccino and hot choclate somewhere

SJ99 · 15/12/2007 11:09

Foxie - party sounds wild, so glad you enjoyed it Hope you have as much fun at the grown up party

Steppie - you must've instinctlively reacted and did what a mum has to do, I'm sure DD will be grateful when you re-tell the tale when she's older

Paddle - glad you're settling into your house and DD is feeling better. Don't worry about contacting H, you did it as a worried parent

SFX - lucky you , hope you enjoyed croissants + wine

Ros - DS also likes Balamory, I think it's hilarious how they make it so PC!

DS + DH have gone to a dad's xmas party this morning so I've been able to get my hair chopped & relax, looks a bit Katie Holmes-esque, obviously this won't last as I won't be bothered to style it everyday, so I shall enjoy it today

Not sure if we will go to Kew, would like to go but it might make tonight a bit rushed, if we make it we'll find you, if not enjoy yourselves

SJ99 · 15/12/2007 11:16

Steppie - LOL I'm now picturing you dancing to Bob the Builder

rosmincepieeater · 15/12/2007 11:41

lol steppie

Glad you enjoyed the disco foxie, does sound like lots of fun!

Having been out this morning I am quickly losing my enthusiasm for Kew this afternoon, it's bitter and freeeeezzzzinng out there!

rosmincepieeater · 15/12/2007 11:41

You'd never guess I'm originally from oop north would you?

foxcubinapeartree · 15/12/2007 12:11

Steppy grown up party is tonight (William's mummy)

foxcubinapeartree · 15/12/2007 12:12

SJ what time does your DH's party begin?

You'll need time to get ready won't you?

Paddlechick666 · 15/12/2007 12:23

afternoon all.

kew is definately out for us today. the on call dr saw dd at west middx this morning and said to keep her indoors for a day or two.

she went to kew yesterday morning with DM and my american guest and he thinks that what started it all off.

she is going to be prone to this due to H's major asthma.....

he showed up about 10:45 in the end with the humidifier which made a huge difference. slept on the lounge and dd was overjoyed to see him this morning.

she handled his leaving very well tho and he has promised to phone her later. we'll see i guess.

it's not how i imagined the way this would work out. i wanted us to have a discussion about access etc before he saw her. at least he had already said earlier in the day that dd was his priority in terms of where to live etc.....

i am gateful that he left his xmas party in the city. nothing less than he should have (as he said himself) but compared to last November when she was admitted and he wouldn't come.....

Anyways, we are housebound but not infectious so if anyone fancies a visit tomorrow that would be lovely.

bummed out about kew, was hoping it would accelerate a bit of christmassy feeling in me!

rosmincepieeater · 15/12/2007 13:01

Paddle, so sorry about your dd. Hope she gets better soon. I guess as well she's getting used to h coming and going as he pleases

Anyway, I'm not free tomorrow as I need to finish my xmas shopping bu if you'd like some company today, I can pop round later. Dh is playing hockey but should be back by 3.30 so can be at yours by 4pm.
