New thread as the other one is not going to last long.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 18/12/2007 16:58

paddle - the perils of middle age

Ros&SJ magnificent toddler wrangling skills on display today after that dd was quiet on the way home half asleep, the carousel is just too exciting.

hope everyone ok today

Paddlechick666 · 18/12/2007 17:00

yeah thanks sfx!

wish i could've come to kew today too, we are bouncing off the walls here

big excitement of the day was Tesco to get the stuff i couldn't order online. You know, the really hard stuff like shampoo and apple juice!

sfxmum · 18/12/2007 17:11

oh Paddle they are there to test our self esteem, just like parents! it never stops.

will try and avoid Kew tomorrow but might be the easy option even if getting expensive these days

we walked past Santa and decided against it dd was looking suspiciously at the elves.

and besides she did not recognise him on the cover of Private Eye this week although she knew who the other guy was

SJ99 · 18/12/2007 18:01

Hey girls you know what they say 'growing old is enivitable, growing up is optional'

Nice to see you both Ros and SFX today - DS asked for more blue lights and mini-Ros as we got in the car, he enjoyed his excursion this afternoon & ate all his tea after all that running around chasing ducks

sfxmum · 18/12/2007 19:34

OMG my Christmas tip made it to the 30 MN tips email

can I take the pressure of so much fame?

Paddlechick666 · 18/12/2007 19:41

firstly, why haven't i got that email and secondly, what was your tip?

rosmincepieeater · 18/12/2007 19:59

oohhh, I know someone on an MN email

That's really sweet sj, can't wait until ds can say his friends' names as well! He was kept occupied with raisins all the way home and then wouldn't eat any tea apart from a banana! Oh well...

Paddlechick666 · 19/12/2007 07:17

okay I finally got my email! good tip sfx, i like your thinking.

for us tho it will be go to parents' place, where you are expected to offer to help (incessently) but said help will be refused (constantly). brother will ignore this protocol and occupy the kitchen for hours making a hugely messy breakfast thus adding fuel to gently simmering mother.

sd will begin to simmer at same time.

brother will then disappear to pub and teens and will have failed to get up/dressed/smile/wish all a merry xmas etc just at the crucial "present opening o'clock".

gently simmering becomes low boiling.

continue to add fuel at regular intervals until dm boils over and there's a meltdown.

my strategy for avoiding this is to drag two antipodean friends along with me in the hope that they will pander to sd & dm, follow protocol and generally dilute any tension!

SushiMummy · 19/12/2007 09:02

Morning all!

sfx - saw your tip on MN email! Your IL sounds v similar to mine.

Hope everyone and their LOs well.

DH took the day off so I can go to our office party! Yay!

foxcubinapeartree · 19/12/2007 09:16

I have evicted the lodger!

Rent was due yesterday and he didn't pay it - turns out he has no money!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if anyone knows of a nice person looking for a room (preferably someone with an income )

sfxmum · 19/12/2007 09:31

good morning all

sorry not ignoring anyone just got distracted with Spooks finale, imo the worst series so far but I am a 'completiste' otherwise I would have stopped buying the Scarpetta novels ages ago - but I digress

Paddle LOL 'present o'clock' yes I know

Foxie the cheek!

Sushi it is weird being the odd one in the out in the Family and foreign too, at least that is what I find, I expect you have scored highly having produced a male heir it all gets so much easier after children Bless them.

Have fun at party

hello everyone else too, must go get breakfast

SushiMummy · 19/12/2007 09:57

Foxie - What a bummer! Hope the unpaid rent is covered by the deposit. Didn't Kew say she knows someone???

sfx - when I gave birth to DS MIL said to me 'he is perfect, thank you!'. She also insists on writing my name as "Mrs Myhusbandsfamilyname" but I haven't changed mine and she knows it. Anyway, I love my MIL!

bahKewcHumbug · 19/12/2007 13:43

Ros - I have an indian headdress and waistcoat purchased for the tumble tots party (today) If you can come over tonight to pick it up you're more than welcome to borrow it.

rosmincepieeater · 19/12/2007 14:20

ooh that would be good Kew. I know ELC have something in stock but its only 3yrs+ so will drown ds!

Foxie, is this the party lodger? That's really bad!

Sfx, know what you mean about being a 'completist' but I just couldn't stand to read any more Scarpetta. I knew it was time to give up when I started shouting at the book , am now reading Temperance Brennan instead!

Oh, and about male heirs and ILs etc, my PIL told my dad that ds is his only true grandchild . We eventually worked out that he meant in the sense that ds will carry on his family name!

SJ99 · 19/12/2007 15:36

Ros - have you tried Woolworths? They ussually have costumes in all sizes

LOL Paddle - described pretty accurately!

Sushi - enjoy your party

Foxie - not surpised your but I bet you're glad you got rid of him. Hope you get the money back somehow

SFX - didn't get mail , what was your tip?

sfxmum · 19/12/2007 16:55

Ros - funny how Temp is now now younger on tellyquite like the middle age one.
With Scarpetta I remember crying when Benson was killed and utterly revolted by 'oh no he is not dead after all like this is a daytime US soap opera' although to be fair that might be the least stupid thing happening.

SJ am now

foxcubinapeartree · 19/12/2007 17:49

Ho sorry about the little tantrum earlier - I'd had about 3 hours sleep last night (kept waking up and seething over lodger issues). I have a deposit for over a months rent , which we have agreed I am keeping as I can't now fill room over Christmas period, plus I need some to cover cleaning and repair costs (he's broken the blind), and readvertising. So I get the rent paid for the next 4 weeks and I am shot of him once he's cleared the rest of his stuff out tonight....hmmpphh!!!

All this talk of mad rellies is making me feel quite Christmassy

Paddle is your lovely friend spending the big day with you then? He should cheer your DM up if anyone can!

Sorry now cowboy outfits here. I have tutu?

rosmincepieeater · 19/12/2007 18:10

thanks foxie, I can just see ds in a tutu

Kew, I won't be able to get over to you tonight as dh needs to go to Ikea so he's going to try & find something. But thanks anyway

Sj, it was after that one that I stopped reading, plus her neice annoyed me! Apparently the tv TB is supposed to be younger but there's no relation to the books at all (which I prefer).

stepfordwife · 19/12/2007 18:54

just a a quick hello to get "active' again..

bloody bonkers at mo..

i'm off out for drinkies soon..
like a normal person..

hope all well, will read thread soon.....

SJ99 · 19/12/2007 19:22

LOL Steppie, enjoy your night out with normal people

SFX - I shuld follow your tip for next yr as it's our turn to host this year so will have the stress of all the rellies round ours. Anyway, enjoy your new found fame

Foxie - good news you're not short on rent, pity about the repairs required though, grrr. Hope you sleep better tonight

Mellow - have posted cheque so let me know if you don't receive it for whatever reason. Probably won't come over tom as need to go to Tesco, running low on food.

Made some oat crunchies this afternoon, DS was feeding them to his soft toy dog saying d'lishous!

foxcubinapeartree · 19/12/2007 19:39

Mmm oat crunchies sound nice

Steppy enjoy your drinks with grown ups

have my bookclub Christmas meal tomorrow so will be dashing out like you, all last minute and the evening will pass too quickly

SJ R U hosting Christmas then? (RESPECT!!)

Rose I have a little pirate outfit if that would do? It has a good hat, white frilly shirt, black trousers and a jacket I think (QC's DS looked very fetching in it). Let me know _ I am home tomorrow so you could pick it up

foxcubinapeartree · 19/12/2007 19:41

.. or I could drop it to you Friday on way to/from work if only I could work out whwere you live

Aha - the glass of Cava I poured as soon as lodger left has just hit my brain [mmmmmmmmmmm]

foxcubinapeartree · 19/12/2007 19:46

rosmincepieeater · 19/12/2007 20:20

Thanks Foxie but we're sorted now.

My op is definitely going ahead tomorrow so have been frantically cooking food for ds (as dh barely knows how to use even the microwave!) and trying to get all the washing done! HOpefully I'm only going to be in for one night & may possibly be home the same day.

sfxmum · 19/12/2007 21:09

Ros best of luck hope all goes well

steppie grow up drinks lovely!

Sj one dau we will host but not yet, Respect to you
