I expect you know his dad Loudon W and Katie McGarrigle (sister of Anne, folk group) brother of Martha Grin

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 22/11/2010 18:13

dusty -you and me. Smile

dustythedolphin · 22/11/2010 19:58

Yes his Dad is more my generation Blush

Have fun anyway, even if Copper and I hadn't heard of him!!

That Villager fella is playing over here soon. I think you know you are old when, instead of thinking "Cor, fancy him", when you see a young man, you start thinking "he's a nice boy, I hope my son turns out like him! Wink

UptoapointLordCopper · 22/11/2010 20:08

Am reading "The Shipping News" (nearly came out as the shopping news) while waiting for my Tess to arrive. And eating my curry. Smile All this excitement while sfx goes and see some young spark that us old folk have never heard of. (Not calling you old, dusty. Just me. Grin)

vbus · 22/11/2010 20:32

Sfx - enjoy gig, and good luck for Dh new job Smile

In the midst of wrapping yet more pressies

Tilly - forgot to say can you bring my cup tom please? Ta!

tillyfernackerpants · 22/11/2010 21:12

SFx, good luck for dh's job

vbus, good job you reminded me, will bring it tomorrow!

UptoapointLordCopper · 23/11/2010 07:58

Good morning!

Tilly - forgotten about the jumpers! Will dig them out today.

DS2 is having ketchup on his toast for breakfast. Hmm

tillyfernackerpants · 23/11/2010 12:05

Thanks Copper, I'd forgotten as well Blush

vbus, lovely to see you and ds2 earlier. Not sure about that playgroup though!

sfxmum · 23/11/2010 13:01

hello all

many thanks for the good wishes for dh it is all sorted now and he seems to be starting on Monday, it is a bit out of town but better than nothing

Dusty Grin he ain't that young any more you know

lordcopper I am reading Oryx and Crake so much for the needed light reading if I wasn't such an Atwood fan I would have had a break by now, definitely need fluff after this

vbus reminds me I need to get cracking with Christmas presents

tilly how are the classes going?

the gig was fabulous and quite emotional, this time last year Rufus and Martha performed on that stage with their mother and rest of family as a sort of goodbye, mum was terminally ill. Everyone there knew that and it was quite poignant, they were obviously working through grief but also in celebration
Martha totally won me over, she sang La Vie en Rose without amplification and her voice reached the entire HALL which fell absolutely silent for it, awesome

later she brought her baby on stage while doing a duet with the brother, so sweet the boy on her hip swinging
and Rufus announced engagement to boyfriend, all quite lovely and the music was great too

tillyfernackerpants · 23/11/2010 13:05

sfx, not teaching atm. Have another one starting at end of Jan, but have reunion coming up soon with first class. Can't wait to get my hands on those babies Grin

Am also a Atwood fan, waiting for the Year of the Flood from the library, supposed to be a follow up to Oryx and Crake.

sfxmum · 23/11/2010 13:17

hands on babies yes, need to find someone with newborns again soonGrin

Atwood is a favourite of MIL as well, we often discuss her books, I left it ages to read this one because MA went on saying she did not write sci fi/dystopia fiction I sulked, well I guess she was making a point about labels not being necessary in good literature but still I sulked

Tilly have you seen the Buffy debacle? posted on FB

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 23/11/2010 13:24

I remember her saying that and was Confused at the time as I'd just read Handmaids Tale!

And yes, have seen Buffy news, what are they thinking!! And how long before its on stage?

tillyfernackerpants · 23/11/2010 13:25

I did like Joss's comments on it all though Grin

sfxmum · 23/11/2010 13:27

''And how long before its on stage?'' yes thanks for the nightmares

Grin love Joss

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 23/11/2010 13:28

musical nightmares Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 23/11/2010 13:30

Always find Atwood books a bit unexciting, like Robber's bride - couldn't get too upset for anybody ... And Blind Assasin. Already forgotten plot. Alias Grace - OK, I suppose... But Handmaid's tale is one of the best books ever. All down hill from there. Grin

sfxmum · 23/11/2010 13:48

exciting never comes to mind either but I really like her, pretty much since Surfacing a chance read in my late teens, and The Handmaid's Tale is indeed a wonderful book

Hello everyone, thought I'd drop in after seeing Kewcumber the other day who mentioned this thread. Must say impressed by mixture of literary and musical discussions with microwave oven stories - most refreshing! Somewhat peturbed to hear news about Buffy though, had not picked up on that elsewhere. Presumably the same powers that be who axed Firefly are now remaking B. Joss wrote extra graphic novels so they could just have made more of those, although the cast are perhaps getting on a bit. Ok, probably revealed too much geeky interest already. Must retreat... I do like Atwood too if that's any consolation.. In any case DD1 wants to play Auntie Mabel game on computer, and baby DD2 has woken up from nap, so I suppose I must hand over the keyboard. Thanks for brief respite from home mayhem. Bye! :)

sfxmum · 23/11/2010 15:31

hello Kora welcome I do believe we are neighbours as per KewC debrief Grin
Geeks super welcome

vbus · 23/11/2010 18:11

Hello Kora - Smile what is aunty Mabel game?

Tilly - lovely to see you too. Yes not sure about a playgroup that doesn't serve tea on arrival Grin Ds2 seemed to enjoy it

have a stack of books to dive into now just need to find some time to read Hmm

Kewcumber · 23/11/2010 22:34

Kora - Buffy?! Shock Oh lordy what have I done, you seemed so normal.

Kora · 24/11/2010 09:09

Hi, sorry Kewcumber we buffy fans are everywhere (we come in disguise), but you have nothing to fear honest...Wink

Vbus, Auntie Mabel game is one of the many CBeebies website delights, part of the Come Outside programme section. Quite a nice game feeding chickens, looking at frogs in a pond etc; good on a winter's day. Daughter seems all set to overtake us in the technology stakes quite soon (she's not yet four).

Sfxmum, we must catch up at some point as you're so close - just message me when you're about. :)
