Head torches? I can see them liking them ...

stepfordwife · 24/08/2010 08:29

hello!
hope you're all well and glad you had a good night out. where did you go?

yes, sfx, would echo going to edinburgh whenever it's warmest time you can go - bloody freezing! but beautiful city.

hello professor! thanks so much for all your advice about mumbai. blimey, what a fascinating,all-living, all-breathing, all yellow and black taxi-honking place it is, eh?

we went to the markest on sat (well crawford and chor bazaar which i LOVED) and oour dribver and some cheery, cross-eyed chap who declared himself as our guide (did have an official badge...) freaked me out a bit by keeping a tight grip on the kids. but think it was more to do with fearing they'd get lost or knocked over than anything more sinister (i hope). of course maybe they just thought i looked like an inept mother Grin

and if i had a rupee for every time someone's told me we shouldn't come here during the Monsoon.....

but it is quite overwhleming on your own at times with kids in tow, isn't it? but dh got a long weekend and we're off to goa on thursday. the age-old what we'd like vs what-the-kids-will-like-and-thereby-keep-us-sane debate ensued....gorgeous portuguese villa vs resort with STUFF for them to do...yep, of course it's the kiddie place..choice mainly made as will need something if it rains ALL the time!

then our last week will be in delhi as dh got a conference there.

sfx, your hols must seem to have so fast - your school is back next week, isn't it?
and, kew, ds must be excited about starting "big school." bet you can hardly believe it.
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 24/08/2010 08:31

....sorry about rubbish typing!

and dusty can't believe your house here on the market Sad - silly i know as glad you're happy there, but seems so final, iyswim!

tell us more about the dream house....Envy

sfxmum · 24/08/2010 16:04

hello all

steppie that sounds great it seems so rare to be able to spend a proper length of time submerge in an entirely different culture

here I do believe the pre school shop is over and done with, the rate at which this child's feet grow is astonishing

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 24/08/2010 16:30

Hello!

Back from seeing Tower Bridge lift, and the peregrine falcons. Also ventured into Tate Modern. Much hilarity over where the fruits and the bottle are. Exhausted.

As for pre-school shopping, we still need one lunch box and we are done!

Kewcumber · 24/08/2010 17:10

neighbours when up to see tower bridge today. Did you see them? She is from Singapore so feel sure you would have spotted them...

Of course steppie I could get all pious about staying in a siberian winter with a one year old for three months wihtout a fancy pants hotel.... but that would be churlish Grin

Say hi to all the kids and we look forward to seeing you back soon (ish)

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/08/2010 17:25

DH preferred Delhi to Mumbai (we never made it out when he was in Delhi) although that may be because his crazy workaholic boss was in Mumbai and he was left relatively unmolested in Delhi... Grin

Would like to hear how Goa is with children -- we'd like to go back and do a wider-ranging visit when our DCs are nearer the age of yours.

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/08/2010 17:36

Kew - did not spot any Singaporean-looking Kew-dwellers. But we were there at 10.30am which is probably a bit early for civilised people (apart from tourists ...)

sfxmum · 24/08/2010 17:52

on the theme of dd outgrowing shoes and clothes, does anyone want 3 pairs of cords 3-4 4-5? also assorted shoes/ trainers sizes 10/11 possibly a 9 in there too (or 27 up to 30) including a pair of yellow wellies and pink crocs, specific sizes on request

there might be other stuff but I am yet to be child free for a thorough rummage and chuck

OP posts:
vbus · 24/08/2010 19:40

Hello all

Sfx - if you have any neutral looking wellies can I take them please? Always handy to have an extra pair to keep at school. As for school shop just need to get the shoes/plimsolls, think I'll do that this Thurs as cannot face going at wkend.

Steppie - what an experience for you and your family, hope you enjoy Goa and you get some time to chill out too. India is beautiful but mad!

Copper - those pictures are great but incredibly difficult to paint. I tried it once and it is much harder than it looks!

Lizzy - we used Sitters about 2yrs ago as we don't have any family nearby and tbh we had a mixed reviews, one sitter was great and she came a few times but they can't always guarantee the same person comes. We had one who didn't do what we asked and she came twice even though we asked them not to send her again. Then final straw was when one sitter couldn't come and we were only told at 6.30pm an hr before they were due to arrive, I ended having to cancel my plans Angry, have never used them since and I aslo thought they were expensive

sfxmum · 24/08/2010 19:54

vbus they are Kipling yellow monkey size 10-11 I think quite neutral

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 24/08/2010 20:01

if any of the trainers are unisex I could do with a pair (well not me you understand....)

vbus · 24/08/2010 20:02

Sfx - Great, can I have them please? Smile

My head is full of kitchen planning, we had architect round today. Lot of options to consider. My main stress is that neighbour is going to object to planning as she is that type of person who likes to interfere and kick up a fuss. I guess we'll cross that bridge as and when Hmm

Also think DS2 has started teething again, random appetite plus night wakings. think a glass of wine is in order Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/08/2010 20:19

vbus - those cubism stuff are funny, but interesting. It's the so-called pop art that I don't like. "... he adapted and developed the original composition to produce an intensely stylised painting". What is that supposed to mean other than that he copied the stuff and probably did something incremental to it. We need to see the original to judge if he is any good. > (Getting into the mood for marking postgrads projects ...)

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/08/2010 20:21

Gauguin exhibition coming up though. Possible MN outing? Do it when the little darlings are incarcerated having fun learning in school one day?

sfxmum · 24/08/2010 20:23

vbus sure they are yours

the exhibition I wanted to see was the one about the drawings / studies of paintings can't recall where it was or if it is still onBlush

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 24/08/2010 20:24

sfx - even Google can't help you if you are that vague!

sfxmum · 24/08/2010 20:26

kewC you can always have a look tomorrow we have pink, navy and grey ones

if anyone wants coffee and muffins you are welcome at my place tomorrow at around 11

OP posts:
sfxmum · 24/08/2010 20:36

LOL yes it is one of those things I made a quick mental note I wanted to see and promptly forgot all but the bare minimum about it

never mind I have favourites and not really related to period/ school or even artist
I like sculpture in the same way

but I think my favourites are old religious pictures or more accurately pictures commissioned by the Church, but not on account of religious content, same with portraits

OP posts:
ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/08/2010 20:43

Possibly Italian Renaissance Drawings at the British Museum? That finished last month, sadly (forgot to go myself).

I'd like to see the "Fakes, Mistakes and Discoveries" exhibition at the National Gallery -- that's open for another couple of weeks

sfxmum · 24/08/2010 20:53

that is the one Professor, I had an idea that I should have gone before the Summer holidays started, thought the fakes one would be interesting too but unlikely to make it

OP posts:
sfxmum · 24/08/2010 20:57

should note I would not say no to a grown up outing with civilised and possibly tea too
can throw in some paintings or arty stuff of some kind for good measureGrin

OP posts:
sfxmum · 24/08/2010 20:58

OP posts:
