OP posts:
Kewcumber · 17/11/2010 14:28

have blwon my microwave up and embarassed to admit that having managed for a couple of days I can manage no longer. Can't be arsed with washing saucepans for soup when a cup can just go in teh dishwasher Blush.

Off to source cheapest possible microwave.

vbus · 17/11/2010 14:48

KC - how do you manage to meet intermittent mners? I won't even ask how you blew up microwave Grin

Sfx - off to playdate now, looking fwd to afternoon with just DS2 and shopping
Hope you have a better sleep tonight
DS2 not sleeping brilliantly last few wks, I'm so tired

Kewcumber · 17/11/2010 14:51

"I won't even ask how you blew up microwave" mmm best not

She pm'd me to ask my opinion of DS's school afetr I'd contributed on a schools thread and I suggested we meet for coffee when it turned out we live about 5 mins from each other.

UptoapointLordCopper · 17/11/2010 19:01

Kew - you need dishwasher-safe saucepans. Envy at dishwasher. I like my microwave as well. Kids are increasingly getting microwaved vegetables ...

Very tired too. Going to bed too late. Have to say, though, that Kafka is great for falling asleep quickly! Finally finished it. Completely did not expect the ending.

Tess of the d'Urbervilles next, I think. Have not read Hardy since Jude the Obscure which was completely traumatising.

Found my mobile phone charger.

I hope we haven't got parents' evening any time soon. Bloody hell. How is anyone supposed to cope with all these bloody demands on your time? Big society can bloody f**k off until I get at least 10 minutes' peace, which is never going to happen, I suppose.

Am going through selfish and grumpy phase.

UptoapointLordCopper · 17/11/2010 19:05

Trying to imagine how Kew blew up her microwave. Is it:

(a) attempting to cook boiled eggs?

(b) attempting alchemy by microwaving metallic containers?

(c) attempting side-channel cryptanalysis of oyster card by microwaving the chip?

(d) there was an episode of spooks where they disarm a bomb by microwaving it. Is that it? And it didn't work?

sfxmum · 17/11/2010 19:24

we have parent's evening next week

and I don't have a dishwasher or microwave, never have so don't miss it really

I like Tess but then again I like Hardy, but to be honest I prefer his poetry

about to finish my book still don't know what I will read but probably will be light fare

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 17/11/2010 20:22

oh its a long story involving some garlic bread, a lasagne and a substandard enamel coating.

tillyfernackerpants · 17/11/2010 20:27

Copper, a girl who was in my halls at uni regularly tried (b), don't think she was doing it on purpose though, just too dim to realise you shouldn't put metal in a microwave!

UptoapointLordCopper · 17/11/2010 21:11

I have witnessed (b) too in college halls of residence. It's quite impressive.

The most awful microwave activity in halls of residence that I've ever seen, or rather, smelled, was cooking instant noodles in the microwave, dry. Not good. Don't try it at home.

SushiMummy · 18/11/2010 07:36

Parent's evening went well apart from that I might need to give him packed lunch from the new year - DS does not like potatoes and he often do not have much to eat at school Sad. I am a bit Hmm about the RE, tho. DS now wants to go to Bethlehem to see the three wise men and possibly the god ShockHmm. And constant humming of hymmes at home. I know it's a CofE school but...

SushiMummy · 18/11/2010 07:41

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend Christianity/Christians.

sfxmum · 18/11/2010 09:33

so do you mean you don't have to be bright to go to uni?Grin

sushi dd wants at various stages to be part of whatever religion is being talked about at school and is very interested in what we and the rest of the family believe in, she seems to want to have a label attached to herself,

anyway we clear up some of the Bibles misapprehensions such as 'Jesus grew very fast from Christmas to Easter to be killed' and she seems to think he was sellotaped to the cross Hmm
plenty of blood gore and random cruelty to be discovered there I fear.
we generally tell her the basics adding that she is a child and does not have to decide yet what to believe in
'but X is Muslim and Y is CofE' well no their parents are

and ours isn't even strictly speaking religiously affiliated

as you were

sfxmum · 18/11/2010 09:34

apologies for lack of punctuation, it might have made it marginally more comprehensible

OP posts:
vbus · 18/11/2010 11:39

Sushi - lol at DS. My DS1 used to regularly tell me he was a Catholic just so that he could go to same school as girl accross the road Grin

Copper - LOl at microwave experiments. I mostly use mine for warming food, I rarely cook with it, the only exception is to make squash risotto if in a hurry

Speaking of hurry, got to go for pickup now. Sushi - didn't realise Ds doing full days already

tillyfernackerpants · 18/11/2010 12:16

sfx, you certainly didn't need to be bright to go to my uni Grin

SushiMummy · 18/11/2010 12:27

Yes, DS started full time after the half term. He was a bit apprehensive about the after school club in the beginning but he loves it now. The teacher suggested to bring snack for the afternoon in case he doesn't eat his lunch. So packed lunch from next year. Sigh.

Kewcumber · 18/11/2010 12:34

sushi - richmond shcool meal provider has a terrible reputation. Thankfully from next sept our school is going cooked in-house route with different supplier.

My mum told DS that god made people the other week Hmm despite her knowing my views on it. She claims she couldn't think of another answer to why women dont have willies Hmm. My standard answer is because they have bosoms instead! Which seems to work for a 5 yr old.

In realtiy she is concerned that he cant chose to be Christian unless I tell him all about it so he can make his mind up. Doesn't seem to grasp that a) he will be exposed well enough by school and society generally by the itme he is of an age to make his own mind up b) stating as a fact that god made people isn't telling him about Chritstianity c) why is christianity the default relgion for him he has an atheist mother and a muslim birth family/country..

I could go on...

Kewcumber · 18/11/2010 12:35

what are you doing for breakfast club Sushi?

Kewcumber · 18/11/2010 12:36

and her viewwould have more validity if she were a practising christian, but apart form Xmas has never taken me to church and didn;t even get me christened!

SushiMummy · 18/11/2010 13:12

KC - it's BC. I'd love DS to go to KKC which is probably better for young children than BC but KKC do not do pick-ups.

Where I come from we have mixed religions/culture embedded to our society, for examples people often have Christian themed wedding despite not being Christian, funerals often conducted according to Buddhism, when babies are born, we take them to shrines (Shintoism) for their health/well-being. Oh and we love Christmas! Grin I suppose Japanese do not have strong urge to belong to one religion/culture after all.

SushiMummy · 18/11/2010 13:15

Ooops, I misread your post, KC. The breakfast club is full (only 16 kids) at the moment.

vbus · 18/11/2010 14:15

Must be my lucky week, just got free cinema tickets to new Denzel Washington film tonight! looks like hot date for DH & I then Grin

Stupidly excited about HP tomorrow night though, SFx/KC shall we meet 8pm outside Odeon?

sfxmum · 18/11/2010 16:10

vbus yes very excited about HP tomorrow

I am babysitting for neighbours tonight

sushi/KewC regarding school dinners dd went on the ones provided after one term of packed lunches on her request, because lunch for her always meant a warm meal unless we were out in which case cheese sandwich is the default option, you perhaps not great to eat them everyday,
so far she seems fine with the provision, mainly because there are options and she always gets to eat something but truth be told they are not particularly nice
be glad when the school sorts itself out

slept really well last night after my day nap yesterday so thoroughly rested I am glad to report
although my running and studying have fallen behind schedule

spent time with my aunt today she does not want to plan anything for her birthday in case she dies before thenHmm
she was actually quite busy and cheerful todayGrin

OP posts:
sfxmum · 18/11/2010 16:11

vbus hope the movie is exciting tonight

I expect the cinema for tomorrow is the one by the river non?
it appears all screens will be showing it non stop since the morning

OP posts:
odetothewestwing · 18/11/2010 16:53

ooooh dead jealous of all these cinema plans!
can't wait to hear the verdict on hp. vbus, how is all the house stuff coming along, are you still sane?

Dusty - are you in the new house yet, if not will it be by Christmas?

All well and good here, busy with everything, had a nice greek meal with the neighbours recently and a drinks evening coming up soon. Enjoying the house and feeling very settled, just trying to get a few twiddly bits done such as carpentry, paint changes etc but of course little time as always, lol.

SFX, hope auntie manages not to snuff it prior to birthday, would be a shame to miss out on nice cake etc!
