I've noticed there are a few of us now, Brussels, Leuven, Antwerp, elsewhere?

We're approaching that period where the weather might be reasonably nice, so I thought it might be good to organise something if you're interested.

I have no real idea of how to go about this, but have to start somewhere.....

Let me know!

ScaryTeacher is in! I hope she is scary in RL !

monkeybumsmum · 27/07/2009 16:02

We probably won't go swimming, as I'm not really a big fan of water and don't like taking ds as I don't want to pass my fear on. As for him, so far he's absolutely fearless, and would probably leap in if he saw it, which tbh would be my idea of a nightmare!
I think we will be staying away if that's okay. Sorry to be a bore...

Also, heard from scaryteacher this morning, and unfortunately she won't be able to make it as she's not very well I really hope that we manage to do another meet-up after this one, and hopefully we'll get to meet her then! Get well soon scary if you're reading this

LongtimeinBrussels · 27/07/2009 16:16

My dd and dn (is that the abbreviation for niece?) are going to bring their swimming things but I wasn't intending going in as I didn't think it was very deep. Does anyone know if it is? They can both swim (my dd better than me!) so I was just going to keep an eye on them from the side.

Shame that scary can't come as I already know her a bit in rl. I'll be all shy now too!

belgo · 27/07/2009 16:43

No,I'm not going swimming, too much to carry and too much stress with three small children! I thought we could meet at the cafe and then go on to the biggest playground

belgo · 27/07/2009 16:44

Don't worry about being shy longtimeinbrussels

inVlanderen · 27/07/2009 17:30

Can I come?!

How many of "us" will there be? What time and where exactly are you meeting?

Thanks!

PortofinoLovesItUpTheOxoTower · 27/07/2009 17:33

Well the pool is open til 7 so there might be an opportunity after the meet up proper if anyone fancies it.

Longtime, it is predominately a kids pool - goes from very shallow to about waist high on me I think. As you can tell - the fact that it is a kids pool hasn't stopped me going for a dip on a hot day .

I have even queued for an hour to get a sunbed/parasol before....It's does get a bit manic on nice days.

Do we all need to bring a Fruitshoot with us so we are easily indentifable?

belgo · 27/07/2009 19:01

Fruit shoots - good idea - but I haven't got any! I would bring along a Greggs' sausage roll but Greggs has just closed in Leuven. I assume we'll recognise each other because we'll be speaking english to our children?

LPO · 27/07/2009 19:08

is it a big café we're meeting in? We could all meet just outside the door or something incase it's busy. Also finding somewhere for us all to sit will be a challenge.

PortofinoLovesItUpTheOxoTower · 27/07/2009 19:16

Happy to stop at Stonemanor and stock up on Fruitshoots and sausage rolls en route!

Also if anyone wants a lift from the East side of Brussels I have room....

LongtimeinBrussels · 27/07/2009 19:19

Are we allowed to take our own chairs in, does anybody know? I have four fold-up chairs I could take. Easy to carry.

Hadn't thought about how we're going to identify one another. Are you all on Facebook by any chance? If so, we could look at one another's photos. However, as mine is of me when I'm two or three I guess that wouldn't exactly help !

monkeybumsmum · 27/07/2009 19:51

Ooh yes, FB is a good idea Longtime! Am on FB under my name (surprisingly) in case anyone wants to be my friend There is a picture of me too on my MN profile, so if you look at that hopefully someone will recognise me
Had thought about carrying a newspaper and a rose but might look a bit weird...

inVlanderen of course you can come We're meeting at the Stille Waters cafe at Kessel-Lo on Wednesday at 1pm! If you want my GSM number to text us in case you can't find us then email me at [email protected]. Think there should be seven of us if I've counted right, and if you come that'll be eight! Lovely

Porto re Fruitshoots! Sausage rolls hhhhhmmmm. My mouth is watering.

monkeybumsmum · 27/07/2009 19:52

Longtime, would've thought you can take chairs in - didn't see anything that suggested you wouldn't be able to when we went!
Think I shall bring a picnic rug, we don't have any chairs

PortofinoLovesItUpTheOxoTower · 27/07/2009 19:58

Had a quick profile peek. I think Belgo will be EASY to spot even in a crowd and monkeybum is gorgeous, so no problems there....

monkeybumsmum · 27/07/2009 21:04

Just taken a peek at your profile belgo What a beautiful family you have!

Ooh gosh Porto Thanks!

LongtimeinBrussels · 27/07/2009 22:36

See what you mean about belgo, Portofino!

Are Fruitshoots and sausage rolls obligatory only I'm a vegetarian ? Are we taking a picnic or is everyone eating beforehand?

I can take four chairs and a blanket and then anyone who wants a chair can have one. Haven't been to Kessel-Lo in years and years. Dd's never been . Poor child doesn't get taken half the places ds's did.

LongtimeinBrussels · 28/07/2009 11:30

Okay you lot, am I the only oldie amongst you? I've discovered that I have been living in Belgium since monkeybumsmum was 9 and since before LPO was born!!!

Maybe I shouldn't come tomorrow .

LongtimeinBrussels · 28/07/2009 11:32

(Now you see why I need to take a chair - if I sit down on a blanket I might never get up again .)

monkeybumsmum · 28/07/2009 11:44

You are funny Longtime

We'll help you up, don't worry

LongtimeinBrussels · 28/07/2009 12:19

At least I'll be easy to spot - I'll be the old granny hobbling along with the fold-up chairs slung over her shoulder .

LPO · 28/07/2009 13:30

Did we decide if we're taking food for a picnic lunch? Or just grabbing something either there or before?

belgo · 28/07/2009 13:44

I'm going to bring some sandwiches along, but I'll probably buy some drinks in the café as well. Ds has grown since that photo was taken, he is now crawling, but I'll still carry him in a sling and I'll also have a lightweight buggy with me for dd2.

I'm looking forward to it!

monkeybumsmum · 28/07/2009 13:46

Think we're doing a picnic aren't we? I meant to go shopping today and haven't been yet. Need to get my act together!

PortofinoLovesItUpTheOxoTower · 28/07/2009 17:43

I'm definitely stopping off for sausage rolls! I'll be on my own as dd has an excursion tomorrow. I'm a bit disappointed as "girly" days during the school hols are very limited, but she really wants to go on the trip with her school friends so I don't want to deprive her really.

Mind you the garderie are doing a trip every week - it's costing me a blardy fortune, though I'm glad they get to enjoy the holibobs properly.

Bless her - she knows I'm sad about it and has been coming out with a list of justifications as to why her trip will be better! Including "they won't make me walk as far as you will..."

Hopefully you won't all suspect me of being a hairy handed trucker who's coming along to steal your babies!

belgo · 28/07/2009 19:25

Porto I shall stay clear of hairy truckers. I'll be with my three children I can share them if you like. I'm just taking a simple packed lunch, I can't carry too much because I'll be on foot and by bus, and I think tomorrow will be a hot day.

LongtimeinBrussels · 28/07/2009 19:45

belgo, where are you coming from? Maybe someone can give you a lift?

I found Countingthegreyhairs (have been looking for her for months)! Unfortunately she can't come tomorrow but will try and make the next one.

If anyone's got any babies they'd like to share, I'd be more than happy to take one!
