I've noticed there are a few of us now, Brussels, Leuven, Antwerp, elsewhere?

We're approaching that period where the weather might be reasonably nice, so I thought it might be good to organise something if you're interested.

I have no real idea of how to go about this, but have to start somewhere.....

Let me know!

ScaryTeacher is in! I hope she is scary in RL !

email sent silly o'clock this morning after finishing one paper of GCSE marking - only 1 paper (1200+ answers) to go! home phone, gsm and email details included.

Portofino · 15/06/2009 18:12

Me too - excellent idea monkeysbum.

rushingrachel · 16/06/2009 12:36

Just thought I'd drop in and say hello as I'm in Belgium too ... (although at the moment I'm not feeling so positive about the experience and want to give up work and go home!) Hope your meet up goes well, sounds like fun.

monkeybumsmum · 16/06/2009 16:58

Hello rachel! Why don't you come along to the meet-up, maybe we could make you feel a little more positive about Belgium? It would be lovely to meet you
Have you been here long?

Portofino · 16/06/2009 17:55

rachel, are you working in Brussels? It can be very hard going at first. I missed my friends so much! If you're in the city and fancy a lunch date or a drink after work (if such luxuries things are possible, I happy to come along and try to cheer you up a bit!

Portofino · 16/06/2009 17:57

PS - I want to give up work every day too! But "home" is kind of here now.....

Portofino · 16/06/2009 18:00

I am so looking forward to planning my MN picnic! Fruitshoots, and sausage rolls from Stone Manor! And spam sandwiches on white bread. And grapes, lots of grapes!

Can you tell that i can still not log on at work and am suffering from posting withdrawal

RuthChan · 16/06/2009 19:12

Rachel,it would be great if you could join us too. The more the merrier! Monkeybumsmum; the contact infomation email is a great idea. Thanks!

scaryteacher · 16/06/2009 22:02

The Jack O' Sheas sausage rolls are good too!

I'll hit Wip-In in Tervuren as we are going back tot he UK the next day, so I'll be packing before coming to meet you guys (and buying all the chocolates etc I am expected to drag back to UK).

Portofino · 17/06/2009 05:11

What's Wip-In? I thought it said Wip-it In! It is early though... Now I'm having visions of leather!

scaryteacher · 17/06/2009 07:22

It's a sandwich shop in Tervuren, which does fab broodjes for very little. A smos is 2.20, or a one made with Ardeense ham and cheese is 2.50 (that's with mayo, lettuce, toms, cucumber and egg to boot). It's my Friday treat as I buy lunch for my cleaning lady there as well.

belgo · 17/06/2009 07:37

Up until a month ago we had a Greggs in Leuven that even did sausage rolls the real thing.

belgo · 17/06/2009 07:46

Have you all seen this story here about a girl in Belgium getting her face tattooed against her will

monkeybumsmum · 17/06/2009 07:54

Belgo - fell asleep? I've got a tiny tattoo on my ankle, was far too busy biting down on a roll of clingfilm to 'fall asleep'. Maybe she just has a really high pain threshold

Yum re all the talk about english foods, I can't wait! Am going to bring cold Richmond sausages and cheese and pickle sarnies [tummy rumble emoticon]

Right, am off to get some breakfast!

ps Porto at Wip-it In

belgo · 17/06/2009 08:10

I know, she's just a silly girl wanting attention, but I do feel sorry for the tatooist who she is blaming.

Is anyone stupid enough to believe her story I wonder?

monkeybumsmum · 17/06/2009 10:22

Bet there will be someone. There always is...

scaryteacher - what's a 'smos'?

rushingrachel · 17/06/2009 10:35

I would love to join you, picnic sounds fab, especially if weather like it is today, but my full time employment status makes week days tricky. On which subject, I am glad I am not the only one who doesn't want to work! I used to be proud of being good at my job but now I just think "so what, I'd rather be at the park".

As to the tatoo ... did you see the guy that did it???!! You'd have to be insane to let anyone that looks like that near any part of your anatomy with a needle. Urggh.

monkeybumsmum · 17/06/2009 11:32

Maybe then later on in the year we could do a girls night out? (Without kids ) Might make it easier for everyone to go, plus we can use dh's as babysitters, hooray!

belgo · 17/06/2009 11:57

Just seen the picture of the tattoo artist! Incredible.

Yes an evening out for belgian mumsnetters is a good idea, I was thinking about that.

scaryteacher · 17/06/2009 12:31

Smos seems to v Belgian....it's a broodje with ham, cheese, mayo, lettuce, cucumber, tomato and sliced hardboiled egg. Better than M&S as it's freshly made in front of you.

Where do you work Rachel?

rushingrachel · 17/06/2009 12:41

I work near Hermann Debroux. It is most un-happening, but I guess at least it means I can't spend money I don't have on frivolous stuff at lunchtimes like I used to in London!

Portofino · 17/06/2009 13:37

It's pretty bit of Brussels round there - definitely not like London though. If you ever want to meet up for a drink I'm always willing!

Portofino · 17/06/2009 13:38

PS there is a Greggs at Madou. I have often knowingly smirked at it when passing on the bus. I must check it out.....

scaryteacher · 17/06/2009 19:55

I just wish there was a Starbucks here apart from Zaventem; it's daft having to go to the airport for a coffee! However, you can now get real cappuccino as opposed to the Belgian version at Chocolat in Tervuren.

RuthChan · 17/06/2009 21:26

A girls' night out together sounds a like a great idea.
I'm really looking forward to being able to join some with the BCT too at some point. I just have to wait a few months until I'm not so needed for evening duties with feeding DS.

That tattoo story is crazy, isn't it.
I'm not really sure what to make of it. She's pretty insane to have wanted anything tattoed on her face at all. It's not the most subtle place to put one.
