I've noticed there are a few of us now, Brussels, Leuven, Antwerp, elsewhere?

We're approaching that period where the weather might be reasonably nice, so I thought it might be good to organise something if you're interested.

I have no real idea of how to go about this, but have to start somewhere.....

Let me know!

ScaryTeacher is in! I hope she is scary in RL !

Ah yes, letswiggle, then Uccle would be a good bet. There are larger houses there too which is what you're looking for. Expensive by Brussels standards but not by many other capital city standards (not sure where you are now). Try to find somewhere near one of the Uccle train stations as you can get a direct (local) train to Schuman - better than having to deal with the horrible rush-hour traffic and the mad Belgian drivers (though expect the trains to be crowded at that time)! Because of the bad driving (and the pollution I expect), cycling isn't that popular here though the authorities are making cycle paths all over the place and narrowing roads in an attempt to get people out of their cars. Not sure how well it'll work though.

Just discovered all the new posts! Well so far June was out and I am on holiday from 4th - 20th July. 21st July is a BH of course, would that be a suitable date? Or anytime after that of course.....

Suggested locations so far - Tervuren Park - dd loves the dead animals , or Rouge Cloitre...Any others?

Planckendael?

Should we have a back up indoor location in case of torrential downpours (this being Belgium after all )?

There's Planet Kid's in Sterrebeek, but it's a bit pokey though....

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/05/2009 22:02

Oh you are all making me feel soooo homesick! I wish I could join you!

monkeybumsmum · 31/05/2009 14:48

Hi All!

Porto sorry not to have replied earlier - we should definately get a date sorted, even if there are only a few of us

The BH in July isn't going to be any good for me but I can make the rest of that week... Will you be back for then timmette?

Either Tervuren or Rouge Cloitre sound good to me if the weather's good. Not been to Planet Kids, but if it'll fit us in with somewhere for the kids to play then it sounds fine!

Really hoping we manage to get this meet up sorted out, it'll be lovely to meet you all!

Hi Letswiggle
My kids starts the Lycee in september too. How old are your kids? Did you find anywhere in Ixelles/Uccle since your last post?

scaryteacher · 07/06/2009 13:40

I will have finished marking GCSEs by the end of June, so early July is good for me. Tervuren even better as it is home ground!!

I am back in UK from 30th July until mid August, but around until then.

Kessel-Lo might be an idea as well. Climbing stuff for the kids and places to sit and picnic for the grown ups. Lido as well if any of the kids or the adults want to swim. Otherwise, there is always the beach at Hofstade near Mechelen.

scaryteacher · 10/06/2009 09:44

bumping

Portofino · 10/06/2009 09:59

Ooh - thanks Scry for bumping. I had forgotten all about this. How does the last week of July sound to everyone?

Kessel-Lo is another good location...and I think we've been to Hofstade too....

belgo · 10/06/2009 12:32

Kessel Lo is a lovely park, very big.

monkeybumsmum · 10/06/2009 14:19

Where is Kessel-Lo?

Last week of July sounds great What day suits everyone best?

belgo · 10/06/2009 14:57

scroll down for Provincial Recreation Park Kessel-Lo

monkeybumsmum · 10/06/2009 16:46

That looks fab! Didn't realise there was something like that so close

belgo · 10/06/2009 18:04

yes it's a great park, with two adventrue -type playgrounds and a stable with a few farm animals, a couple of lakes to walk around, and an outdoor swimming pool.

scaryteacher · 10/06/2009 18:17

I am not here from 30/07- going back to UK...so M/T/W fine, not T/F as I won't be here.

MrJiggywinkle · 10/06/2009 18:40

We love Kessel-Lo. We have even been known to go to the pool sans dd even though it's meant for kids. Get there early for a sunbed on a hot day and it's like being on holiday!

MrJiggywinkle · 10/06/2009 18:42

I'll have to wangle a day off. How does everyone feel about Monday 27th?

MrJiggywinkle · 10/06/2009 18:44

Oops! Just realised I need to name change back!

monkeybumsmum · 10/06/2009 19:40

MrJiggywinkle

Monday is going to be difficult for us - what about the Wednesday? Is that any good?

scaryteacher · 11/06/2009 08:05

That's fine - how old are your kids? Mine is 13 so may bring ipod and book and sit and grunt in the corner!

belgo · 11/06/2009 08:08

M/T/W of that week are fine for me.

Portofino · 11/06/2009 09:04

Wednesday 29th July? Kessel-Lo?

My dd is 5 going on 13 .

belgo · 11/06/2009 09:48

That's fine for me. What time am or pm?

I'll look up a suitable meeting point at Kessel-Lo - probably the main playground.

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/06/2009 10:30

Oh I am so envious and homesick! We used to live at Kessel-Lo in the summer - the pool and the playgrounds were fab!

Portofino · 11/06/2009 10:53

1pm with a picnic?

belgo · 11/06/2009 11:04

Just looking at the rain we're having today, do you think we should meet up first in one of the cafes inside the park, and then go to the play areas afterwards if it's good weather?
