Sorry UR

I love NE. I feel really lucky to live here (and I never, ever thought I would live in the US) and really feel like this is where I am meant to be IYSWIM.

Although I am getting fed up of wet rainy snow. FFS do one or the other. Not both at once.

UnderRated · 15/03/2008 18:51

Oh yes, yuck, snow and rain together is horrible. It's freezing here again and I stupidly put my snow jacket away yesterday. Must dig it out again.

We're going to need a new thread title soon. Any suggestions?

Hey! We ended up going to Jones Beach and shopping mall as my DD was, still is poorly and was up all night, no one fancied a long drive. We went to Philadelphia yesterday, which was cold, and well, quite uninteresting really, but closer than Boston or DC. Maybe next weekend...

So unfortunately did not go to either Boston, or DC, which I am mightily disappointed in, esp as DH and his brother went shopping and I am here looking after DD as she still has a fever.
My brother in law's wife is chinese and there is a nanny here who speaks no english, she offered to look after DD and i go, but she had no idea about the medicine, naps and has two other children to look after, one she had to get from school and a right pain in the ass.

She is looking after DD on wed tho whilst we go to broadway show. YEY!

Oooo, what are you going to see, Pavolv?

Does anyone want a 2008 Zagat Movie guide? I need to give away.

Also, a 2008 Zagat guide to NYC Gourmet Shopping and Entertaining - bit late for you Pavlov but might be good for someone who lives there.

dooneygirl · 17/03/2008 21:31

Hello, everyone. We had another bout of croup here, but somehow it only lasted 48 hours and was fairly mild. Then Grandma and Grandpa showed up. We did the Easter thing this weekend, since they were here, and the kids had a blast.

We sold our 3rd car this weekend. When DH's mom died, she left us an almost new minivan. DH has been talking about selling our old car, but never got around to it. Someone approached us this weekend with an offer to buy it. We liked having it, because DH's truck only seats 2, and it was nice having a backup, but it was costing us money to only drive it once in a very great while.

I'm in shock right now from news about a former friend. DH and I used to work at the same place, and I was friendly with all the people in the pharmacy there. We did stuff at their house, and I hung out with 2 of them socially here and there. We moved away, and when we were gone, one of them moved away. I've been asking DH about the other, because we lost touch, and what he found out was unbelievable. It turns out she was stealing tablets from work and crushing them up and poisoning her partner. She was found out, and fired and then 2 days later her partner was found shot to death. DH is upset also, but I am just really shaken about the whole thing. This person was really cool and amazing, and I just can't tell you how much it bothers and chills me to the bone. Her partner was one of the most clingy and needy people I've ever met, and I disliked her to the core, and once told DH how I thought our former co-worker was amazing because she hadn't bumped off her partner yet. I really wish I could take back saying that.

Blimey dooneygirl, that's heavy stuff. She obviously wasn't as nice as you thought . What a shock.

Pavlovthecat · 17/03/2008 23:02

Going to see Phantom of the Opera. I love that musical, brings back great childhood memories...yey! I am excited.

All depends on DD, she ha fever, reached 40.2 (over 104 for the americans), its down to 38.3, but got to Drs a few mins too late they would not see her. Now, her cousin has a fever. Oh dear.

Talking of croup. DD had croup too before xmas. She had to go to hosp for steroids. It was not pleasant at all. I was soo green...did not know croup was still around until she got it, then realised I got it mixed with whooping cough! Stupid me!

UnderRated · 18/03/2008 00:23

dooney - are you ok? How awful

Hope your DD gets better soon, Pavlov

Croup sounds awful.

Pavlovthecat · 18/03/2008 01:51

Did anyone go to NY st patricks day parade? I really wanted to go, being in NY right now, but dd too poorly, so i stayed in. Wondered if it was any good?

UnderRated · 18/03/2008 02:44

No. I avoided the one here too - I saw it by accident last year and it was horrendous (I don't like big scary crowds of people pushing, having nearly been crushed in a bit of a stampede at 4th July one year). I'm not sure I like the rivers being dyed green - it can't be good for the creatures. And we drink that water.

UnderRated · 18/03/2008 02:46

Mind you, all the sewage and chemicals go into the same water so I expect a bit of green dye should be the least of my worries. And apparently they still have lead pipes under the city although that could be an urban myth.

Pavlovthecat · 18/03/2008 02:52

I had heard it was not great, from an irish man here. He said it was disgusting in his words, full of people desperate to get drunk....sounds like I did no miss too much then

UnderRated · 18/03/2008 02:57

I get too irritated by people pretending to be Irish when actually, their mum's second cousin twice removed was married to someone who's great grandfather may have been Irish. Or not. But then, I'm a miserable spoilsport

Do any of you know anything about M1 visas?
